S3 Launching DirectX 10 Graphics Chips Soon

Unfortunately there aren't many technical specifications, but a couple of pictures of S3 Graphics' new Destination 2 (D2) and Destination 3 (D3) graphics processors have been leaked onto the internet. All that is really known about them at present is that they will support DirectX 10, with D2 (shown on the left of the first image below) being manufactured using a 90nm process and D3 (right of the first image and shown in the second image) manufactured using a 65nm process. Both chips will be manufactured by Fujitsu, with graphics cards using D2 being called Chrome 450 and 460 and cards equipped with D3 called Chrome 430 and 440. Apparently HP has already ordered some of the D2 chips, which are essentially ready to be launched, whilst the D3 chips are still in the process of driver testing.

High end is a waste of time for S3 at the moment, however their Deltachromes did get along in the mid end in some fields. Perhaps some day they'll make more solid products. At least they don't force you to use any chipset with their multichrome setup

I think you should look at the power usage of those chips.... its almost nothing! I don't know why we're not using them in laptops.

Those are mobile-only chips? Good news anyways. More competition for nVidia/ATI is always good news. Problem with SiS/XGI was always drivers. Xabre cards anyone? Hardware was more or less all there, but their drivers were always terrible.

You act like they're a new player, they've been releasing new cards ever other year, nothing truly impressive. Just low power stuff, no high performance. The last series did offer nice features.

Yeah, I know. VIA/S3 is more or less king in low-power arena. Just saying, when it comes to non-ATI/nVidia competitors, their drivers/software are usually behind. And that's pretty embarrassing considering neither ATI or nVidia are exactly great with their drivers and/or software (software bloat that is).

Ati is doing well in the mid range sector, I have high hopes these new ones will probably trounce the lower specd ati and nvidia cards. At least, Im really hoping so.

Actually I do own SiS Xabre 200, XGI's Volari V8 and S3's Deltachrome S8
