AMD Ryzen 3 4300G Swarming the Market at $100-ish

couldnt be stuffed googling it, thanks
It just sounded of a similar era/generation at first glance and i wondered if they were console parts repurposed (the joys of a modular CPU design)
I'm thinking this and the console parts are all monolithic.

The Xbox Series X and the PS5 chips have shown up as the 4800S and 4700S, respectively. 8-core Zen 2 chips on a BGA with 16GB GDDR5 and no iGPU.

I kinda want to try out the 4800S, but I don't have the $$$ for a mere curiosity. The 4700S is locked to a few GPU options and starving for PCIe bandwidth.

I don't think any Van Gogh chips from the Steam Deck have been repurposed.

Not everyone wants to go used-there's little or no warranty.
That said, with the 5600G so close in price and with far better overall performance
I can't see this being other than a bottom-of-the-bargain-barrel choice.

Recenty updated by brothers system WITH a 5600G BTW, not surprisinly it's
a massive improvement over the previous ' mom and pop ' core it had:
I can not say much about R3 430xxG, but have one R5 5600G, and it really kicks good, not one moment it would not pull, otoh I do not game with it, its more like a workhorse.
Have a couple of other R5, but they are in a different price range.

Ack, closed browser and lost my post

Continuing the info i had:

Intel 4770 vs 101000 vs 4300g

They're budget CPU's for sure, but they're not comparable to the older intels whatsoever - they're equal to a budget 10th gen

A320 boards arent exactly expensive so the would make a great extremely low budget entry PC with the somewhat gaming grade IGP, with the platform having a lot of upgrade potential

Well to be fair, this 4300G is faster than intel CPU's generations newer than that
Passmark tells me it ties with a 7700K - Intel's top CPU in 2016. Also, this chip was released in 2020, it is just not a retail chip until later.

^^ some A520 boards are really good option too.
(old gossip back in the day, was that Passmark's CPU bench results seemed a bit intel biased. ah well, back on topic, we do not discuss "bang for buck" in this thread).

I normally just sell the CPU+board+RAM platform but I sometimes sell whole systems with 4770 and RX570 8GB. It's obscene how much you can do with that if you don't mind waiting a little longer for encodes/renders/results or if you don't mind running games at a lower resolution.

It's easy to get swept up in the hype of the latest and greatest CPUs and GPUs but you can still get most of the experience for peanuts. If anything, gaming on a 4770 and RX570 proves just how little you really need to enjoy a game. When you look at benchmarks and see the RTX 4090 getting 300fps it sure looks impressive in a bar graph but the game is still fun at 60fps.

If anyone asks me for build advice at work when they're on a tight budget, I always tell them to go and spend their CPU and GPU budget on decent peripherals, hand them a free 4770, RX570, and 500GB SSD, and tell them not to buy the shittiest case or PSU they can find. The peripherals, case, and PSU will last a decade and if they want to upgrade the CPU and GPU down the line that's an easy job.
Well said! :)

The latest and greatest tech is something that AMD/Intel/Nvidia want us to want, and not something that we really need. Good gaming and marketing have gone very far away from each other. A lot of us believe marketing rather than our own eyes and falsely think that having the latest i7 or i9 with a 4090 is absolutely necessary.

To stay on topic, I've got a spare R3 3100 system on hand with a Radeon 6400. Some of you guys would drop your jaw to see how much grunt these little beats have at 1080p when one's willing to turn graphical settings down just a notch. I would have high hopes of the 4300G as well, if it wasn't selling for the same price (or more) as the R5 4600G.

i3-12100f much better deal. If you need iGPU then add 20€ and you'll get 12100... Sad to see that amd can't now compete in bottom level :{

I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a low end and outdated piece of junk (due to the OEM's refusal to continue implementing it, it's practically a junk) due to upgrading to newer or higher end APUs after their prices have been reduced. Examples have already been given of how overpriced this offer is compared to the 4600/4650G and even the 5600G. Should I also mention the 6000G series, which finally, after a long wait, appeared on the htpc market?

^ you know this, all of our stuff will be become "junk" at some point. The pricing point I cannot say much about, depends on demand & supply.
Sidenote, the R5 5600G is really pulling good for home use & light gaming. Bang for the buck is good (but yes, pricing is different depending on regions).

I think I've made a good enough points for calling it junk and it's for now, not the production start date(in 2020) of this APU. Also, why would I pay the price I mentioned, and not the price AMD wants to push it at. In the situation that at a lower price there is a product (4600/ Pro 4650G) of the same generation in a higher class, and at the same, or indeed slightly higher, there is a model that is also a newer generation 5600G , also higher-end, with +2c/4t, with 1 more CU in its iGPU, which runs out of the box at a higher frequency of +200MHz and is less reduced, offering twice the PCIe lanes, 50% more L2 and 4X more L3 caches. I have given other reasons. Junk not in the sense of defective, and not in the sense of non-working and not in the sense of unusable. Price/performance is unacceptable.

edge and chrome normally remember, just not every time
I think it depends on the site. Here in TPU, the software that the forum is based, saves text periodically, but in other sites, the text is lost if something goes wrong. I am using 99% of the time Firefox, so I don't know if other browsers are better in this area, but Textarea cache has helped a lot in the past.
