Forspoken is a Sales Flop, Square Enix Cites "Challenging" Critical Reaction, Dev Studio Being Disbanded

Hi,
Yeah it's just poorly done over all go ahead suckers play on

Epic has free games better than this.

I found some information... it seems very little for a company like square enix:
$9,4m gross revenue
what was the games bugdet ?

Square Enix doesn't have a history of quality games
not sure why this surprised anybody
the FF series not with standing most of there titles are low buck crap

japanse studios seem to suck in general when it comes to making games that both play good AND Look good

they are stuck in the nintendo/arcade era where apperently you aren't allowed todo both they have been lagging behind the rest of the industry on the technical capablity side for years

I avoided this dumpster fire due to the mediocre PC performance. I learned my lesson after CyberPunk 2077. Plus the antagonist and the cuff dialogue, banter, and just the storyline itself is sad for a Square Enix game. Makes me worried about the upcoming Game of Thrones..I mean FF game.

I agree with this.

Squaresoft had quality games. Square Enix doesn't.

Now, I will blame Enix out of this. Enix has 1 good series - Dragon Quest. The competition to Final Fantasy. But everyone says "But seph, Enix had other good games!" and my only reply is "The 7th Saga" and then I walk away while everyone in the room is clapping and the woman are throwing their undies at me.

True story.

dang that’s more than 60 million down the drain if they can’t use the assets for something better.

They made about 9.35 million (based on steam units sold and $70 MSRP and after 20% fees) on steam. Assuming they sold equal amounts of PS and Xbox, they aren't even half way to recouping costs. I'm not sure if anything will get them to recoup costs but they should at least try aggressive discounting in a month or so. $70 was way too much to ask for a game like this to begin with.

I'll buy the game at $20 Canadian Rupees just to have it on the shelf of my PS5 games so that in 25 years, people who have a rose coloured glasses on "retro games" will pay thousands for it.

If the trend of poorly optimized games continues, I would expect people to start abandoning PC gaming, or stop buying these games. GPUs are expensive, and not many people can or be willing to spend a lot on PC hardware.

I picked up Forspoken on PS5 and I’m loving it, also picked up Hogwarts.
Played both roughly the same amount of time and I actually find Forspoken more enjoyable than Hogwarts.
I can see myself finishing Forspoken and not bothering with Hogwarts.

In Hogwarts so far I have had missions break/get stuck and odd situations where enemies/NPCs are inside walls/floor/rocks etc.

Forspoken has been flawless so far (but I’m sure I’ll run into some issue, just like practically every game ever)

Can’t comment on PC performance or issues unfortunately, haven’t tried either on PC.

104,99 Euro ?
That price is beyond arrogance!
Someone there must have lost their grip on reality.

From all the reboots why did they not play it save and make a new supreme commander?
THAT i would have bought without reading ANY review.

Also, just a thought:
  • The genre seems to be a mix of action, fantasy and supernatural elements - no clear identity here.
  • The gameplay has magic, moving stuff, also exploration, dialogues, maybe a bit of RPG as well? Again, no clear identity.
  • The main character ("protagonist" would be an overstatement) is an average young human female who lives in New York, loves cats and swears a lot. Um... who cares?
All in all, based on the trailers and previews, the game doesn't seem to have a clear vision of what it wants to be, or who it wants to appeal to.

As the saying goes: if you're desperate to please everyone, you'll end up pleasing no one.

I thought it looked interesting but after reading the reviews I couldn't find myself spending $70 for a game I would put down in a day or two.

Square Enix is becoming the new EA in regards to releasing crap games that nobody wants, then covering up their management failure by disbanding the studio that inevitably failed to transform their shitty vision into a workable game.

70 dollar games coming out now are not even worth 40 bucks, they're causing their own problems if you ask me. I like Forspoken though, but i would only pay 29.99 for it.
I don't feel sorry for Square Enix, they killed the Sleeping dogs series :(

I could never see myself paying more than 20 quid for a game, except if it's something that's really close to my heart. The Witcher 3 and Doom (2016) were the last such games.

Squaresoft had quality games. Square Enix doesn't.

Before the merge with Enix happened, Squaresoft were churning out hit after hit after hit almost every year in the late 1990s to 2001, it was absolutely unreal.

FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX and FFX came out on a regular cadence (1997,1999,2000,2001) and every game was a legit success its own way.

Xenogears in 1998

Chrono Cross in 1999.

Amongst others.

Each game was also guaranteed to have a kickass OST that you could listen to over and over again.

These were their golden years, and they seemed unstoppable.

Now they can't even produce that level of quality output at all, and everything they make gets either delayed or pushed back.

Better remove Denuvo, since there is a monthly fee..

The story of soo many gamestudios... Westwood, Bioware etc...

A shame really. I loved squaresoft. Parasite eve was one of my most favorite games aside from FF3 (6) and FF7. I would say FF8 was their weaker title at the time (didn't care for this Gakt guy the girls raved about at the time and they used his likeness for Squal). But damn, the games they churn out now make FF8 look like a masterpiece.

How the mighty have fallen.

Denuvo and my PC... nope... NOPE... NOPE!

It just shows that their only priority is making money, less of making good products in my opinion. Forspoken I guess is ok, but it just does not stand out from other titles. I feel Square Enix slowly fading away, even with their FF franchise is starting to get very long in the tooth.

The problem with Forspoken is that it is a snooze fest for the first feels like hour. It's not that they make bad Games, Outriders is a great Game. The issue for me is that I have Humble Choice and that has allowed me to enjoy Gaming to the fullest. I don't play FPS Multiplayer Games but totally enjoy getting into some Hell Let Loose. There are always killer 2d Action Games too.

The game is far from being horrible, however I do think it had a phenomenal dev and marketing budget. Way too much flaws tho and some are pretty bad.

The luminous team, be it FFXV or Forspoken, I really did not like their games, their artistic approach, it was best to disband the studio indeed.

Too many issues with Square Enix:
  • A bet on NFT...
  • A bet on live-service games, babylon falls being one, abhorrent, game
  • Lack of investments in A/AA games like Valkyria, Star Ocean, lack of new ideas, those IP are stagnating, dull, with a lack of proper new ideas DESPITE being the perfect field to test them (you don't experiment on a 60M$ budget game)
    • In the current economical context, most people won't bother paying 40+ EUR on dull games. Make better games, with more budget rather than investing in markets that are failing/saturated
  • A desperate attempt to make what they don't know: Western-oriented RPG like FFXV or Forspoken. make what YOU do best rather than trying to fit a new yorker and make her cuss each 3 second (seriously, they learnt about New York with tv series only or what)..or a K-pop band in FFXV.
Much of Asian entertainment is based on their perceptions/stereotypes of westerners and western entertainment. Why they have an obsession with Paris and most don't know why. It's just ingrained in their media. Also, American characters are often loud and obnoxious with big boobs and blonde and only exist in the big cities. They simply have no clue because they aren't taught it. It just keeps going on from there... Which is not too unlike what we do in reverse. We believe what the media portrays about Asia. Gamers and anime fans are probably the only two groups which have better ideas and even those are based on tropes. No, they never stop to actually ask westerners if the portrayal is realistic. Ultimately they make for their market even if it's for ours.
