Today Daedalic Entertainment and NACON announced that their highly anticipated adventure game, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, will release to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on May 25th. A version for Nintendo Switch is planned for later this year.

Based on the beloved The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien, the fantasy game takes players on an epic journey across Middle-earth, starring one of the lore's most compelling characters: Sméagol - *Gollum, Gollum*.

Check out fresh gameplay from Middle-earth, with insights from the developers inspired by the iconic lore.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a story-driven action adventure. Embark on a perilous journey as Gollum, chasing the only thing that is precious to you. Climb, leap, and sneak your way past dangers or into advantageous spots. Gollum is skillful and sly, and torn by a split personality. It is up to you to decide whether to yield to the darker side of Gollum or trust the kinder gentler hint of Sméagol.

Co-published by Daedalic Entertainment and NACON, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is developed by a small team of passionate Tolkienites at Daedalic Entertainment in partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises. The game will release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. A physical edition for consoles will also be available.

Take on a perilous journey as Gollum, chasing the only thing that is precious to him. Gollum is skillful and cunning, but also torn by his split personality. One mind, two egos - you decide!

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Slinks Out of the Shadows on May 25th

The story-driven adventure across Middle-earth arrives this May for PC and consoles - Sméagol will swear it on the Precious!

Wish they'd develop a Tolkien game based on The First Age... who wouldn't want to see and participate in the Dagor Bragollach or the War of Wrath? The Fall of Gondolin? I realize that'll never happen, but it'd be cool

Yeah, a game covering events spread across thousands of years... No problem. :)

Although it would be cool to see one, I'd rather keep it in my dreams, knowing how hard Tolkien's stories were raped by movie and game industry up till now.

This is just a less-charming-version of Styx :slap:

Hey, the 1st age was just under 500 years, so that's no problem, haha. I just think it'd be awesome if you could play as Beren and go on a mission to steal a Silmaril from Morgoth's crown

Not likely, since Christopher Tolkien or Tolkien Estate didn't sell any rights to Silmarillion. And it wouldn't be cheap. All the movies, series, games, table top games are derived from rights to Hobbit and LotR that Tolkien himself sold a long time ago.

For a small read vs the other Works that book is the best and would truly be epic in a Game, Movie and Series.

So the game looks bad in general. Then to add character lighting in a stealth game lol. This is a big flop for me.

500? Ehm... no? It's 600 years since men awakening, but what about all the time before the destruction of the Trees? If You wanna count just the Silmaril Wars, then yes, it would be around 500-600 years.

Personally I can't get over the way Gollum looks in the game. I know it would probably take a lot of money to license the movie look, but it would make a huge difference.

I might still play it if it's good, but right now I'm not excited.
