Intel Arc "Battlemage" to Double Shader Count, Pack Larger Caches, Use TSMC 4 nm

Well drivers have improved. Maybe they can add the hardware to match. I'll believe it when it actually launches. Other rumours suggest that Intel is dumping several upcoming releases for their proposed GPU schedule. Again, time will tell.

One can only hope with Raja gone, the gpu division can "quietly" achieve its goals with out BS hype. AMD and Nvidia need a massive kick up their greedy arses.
Raja has worked on this gpu for years, so if Battlemage turns out good, it's on him. Just like RDNAs 1-2, which people seem to count as successes.

cool cool, but I think the problem with Intel lies not so much with the hardware, but how its being used, though improvements arebeing made, looking forward to this.

3060 also has almost double shader count over 2060, but the difference is only 20%

Actually the 3060 have a little less core count than 2060, the 20% difference is from frequency increase and architecture optimisations. I don't know what happened with 3000 series but they count each core has double for some reason and it's not right.

Glad to see Intel holding on.

This describes an okish video card if we could buy it today. Over one year from now... probably not so much.

Prices if Intel produce and offer
this numbers today haven't good. Probably be equal or higher than RTX 4080. But after around 15 months when N4 isn't bleeding edge process... ;)

And be way more expensive. But be 3 choices at least. Hopefully they will bring up performance in older games. TPU review on BL3 fps wasn’t that great……. If they improve that it’d be nice.

I might be mistaken but as far as my knowledge goes, there’s no 4nm process as such, at least noch from TSMC. Ada Lovelace ist produced in an optimized 5nm process that is called 4N. I poured it out somewhere before but I guess it’s easy to mix up.

Please fix it because it’s also wrong in the title.

BR

I was a little confused about that when it was first revealed that Nvidia would be using 4N but 4N is actually 4nm: https://www.tsmc.com/english/dedicatedFoundry/technology/logic/l_5nm

"In addition, TSMC plans to launch 4nm (N4) technology, an enhanced version of N5 technology"

According to TSMC, it is both 4nm and an enhanced version of their 5nm.

so, after battlemage is warknight?

Doubling and then some to me seems almost like a requirement by now. Alchemist already arrived at what felt like 2 generations late.
Well it will be facing RDNA4 and Blackwell. But an affordable card offering 4070 Ti/7900XT performance would still be sweet.

It will be celestial if those slide are still actually relevent

This thread is getting worse. Now slides from 2021 are being used as evidence of current roadmap and plans.

I do wish this thread was locked until we have post-Raja Press Release from Intel about Arc commitment and roadmap.

That's why i've specify "if those slide are still actually relevent"

oh? now that Raja is out of the picture, ARC will rise and be competitive with nFudgeYa and AMD? (what? me a red fanboy? but nVidia rally do "fudge" ya ... recently ...)

i can't wait to see if Battlemage will have some "fight" in it, as Alchemist did not have much "alchemy" in it (tho i still would like a LP A380 (although i would regret it since the rig i would put it in has no ReBAR) or even an ACER Predator Bifrost A770 16gb (even tho i loathe Acer that one is way more sexier than a A770 Limited [glue allover] Edition )

go for it INTEL! bring the price of the Powercolor Red Devil RX 7900 XTX bellow the 1067chf/$ it is now... oh, wait ... okay then i would be fine if it's about the RX 8900 XTX then ...

edit, @Dristun RDNA2 soared after he got off ... but if it's due to him ... wow, just wow ... :D kudos to him then.

I mean, I am all for it especially seeing the gains Intel has made in the last couple of month on the current ARC GPU's. Could be a very interesting buy if they could get a GPU into the 4060/4070 range of cards while offering a decent value.

I still think they'd be totally fine by competing only up to mid-range, but offer rock solid drivers.
I mean, while everybody is fighting over fab capacity, they'd just produce smaller chips that the market with buy in the blink of an eye if we knew they have proper software support. Intel managed to come up with intriguing stuff in the form of XeSS and their video capabilities are usually top-notch. But who in their right mind would a video card from Intel when it costs about the same as an equivalent card from the established GPU makers, when Intel's drivers have the bugs they had on launch?

yes pleaseeee!!

A kick in the backside is not enough these days... a double whammy to the balls too. Make em squeal until they fall to their knees before their mugged masters (the consumer). Nah, can't see it happening to be honest. As soon as intel gets a whiff at the top they're gonna join forces to milk the sheep. Is it just me, or is there a strong possibility for the big players scheming together. Makes good business sense.

For some reason when I hear alchemist and battlemage, it reminds me of this

Maybe that double shader count is an enchantment?? ;)
