Are 2k panels not the norm now? Maybe I'm out of touch I consider myself a very casual gamer looking for a 144hz plus monitor but I wouldn't consider anything 1080p.

My nephew had a 2k 144hz monitor 10 years ago so I kinda expected 2k 144hz monitors to be cheap now. I've seen a few around 300 but spec wise weren't good.

10 years ago, that was probably a TN panel with a discutable picture quality compared to IPS. Those last few years the improvement have been focused on making fast IPS panel so that TN could finally be retired for anyone who isn't a pro gamer. The next step is to get a decent FALD or miniled for 400~500$

Don't go with response time lies for LCD below 1ms, it just forces OLED makers to lie even more to compensate for LCD lies.
