It appears as if there has been no rush when it comes to people buying NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 cards, at least not directly from NVIDIA's website, as the company lists no less than 19 different models in stock. It should be noted that NVIDIA links to third party websites, but most of the cards are available through at least one of the third parties. Out of those 19 cards, nine are sold at the MSRP of US$599.99, but the remaining 10 cards are sold above the MSRP, by varying amounts. What seems odd is that some companies have both dual and triple fan cards retailing for the MSRP, but with some dual fan OC cards going for more than MSRP from the same company.

The cards priced higher than the MSRP range from US$609.99 to US$699.99, making the more pricey cards seemingly bad value for money, as the highest clock speed listed is only a mere 115 MHz higher than NVIDIA's own RTX 4070 FE card. As seen in TPU's testing, none of the cards seem to have much of an overclocking headroom anyhow, so spending a $100 extra here doesn't seem to be worth it for the small gains in performance and could be easily gained by manually overclocking a cheaper card.

The pricing in Taiwan is nuts though, the cheapest cards listed online are the equivalent of US$689.
Considering Taiwan only has 5% VAT, that's a rip-off.

FE out of stock in UK.

nvidia charge an arm and a leg for a 4070 and now is "reassuring" will be plenty of gpus for idiots to buy. Nvidia learning everything with the fake media, creating the news and applying hype lure on it. The 4070 is a fail, the only gpu that is worth to buy is the 4090 and nothing else at moment because is the only gpu we can say is next gen, although it was supposed to be maximum 999 usd.

Yes, obviously the US, hard to do MSRP anywhere else, since VAT and what not is added.
That said, that's also some pretty terrible pricing, but still only US$13 more if you remove the VAT.
Yeh , it sucks , seems that in EU the starting prices will be 700$+.

The 4070's die size is only a tad bigger than the 3050 so it makes sense why stock is so high, there are getting a lot per wafer and loose less of the wafer for each defect. You could generously call this card an x60 class card but it's closer to a x50 class card die size wise. Nvidia is calling it an x70 with a $100 price increase to boot. It's probably the worst x70 class card that's ever existed if you consider price and performance relative to the rest of the stack. Just for comparison the 970 was a mere 11% slower than the 980 coming in at $330 USD, a significant discount over the 980. The 970 also launched with the 980 kicking off the 900 series as well, no staggered release BS (at least with the 970). In comparison the 4090 is almost twice as fast at 4K.

Considering it's overpriced for what it is to start with, as all current gen cards, it's not hard to see why it's not flying off the shelves, especially the higher priced cards.

Perhaps it's a culmination of a couple of things that just worked against Nvidia that's not sending these cards flying off the shelves.....

1) look at the failure of the playability of The Last of Us on PC if you're not sporting a 12GB VRAM GPU. Maybe people are thinking, if 8GB VRAM is a limitation right now with a game that just came out and you need 12GB to play it, what the hell good is a GPU that's launching with only 12GB? Will a game that comes out in the next 6-18 months not be playable because of it?

2) This card performs just like the 3080 10GB. A card that's 2.5 years old now. If someone is already using this card or even the 12GB version or the Ti variant, there is no reason to move on. Also, those running a 3070 or 3070Ti are only maybe 20-25% behind a 3080 and moving up to a 4070 with 12GB might be a turn off (see reason 1).

Right now it's just not a good card for most people on the Ampere cards. If I was on a 2080 or 2080Ti, the 4070 isn't an enticing card because of the above reasons.

It's kind of a flop of a card, in my opinion.

Basically this. The 4070 is ~3080 levels of performance, granted at much lower power draw, but I can get a 3080 on ebay for well under $500.

The price:performance of this gen is completely absurd. These companies, Nvidia in particular, enjoyed several years of people willing to pay 2x+ MSRP because the cards were used for making money - a justifiable purchase, from an accounting perspective. But now, over $1700 after tax for a 4090? $1300 for a 4080? Lol. Lmao, even.

I remember back when a new generation of cards meant lower prices for better performance, not higher prices for slightly less.

Yeah, I have a 2080 and this is not a card I would consider. Here's hoping for the 7800 XT or whatever it'll be called.

At those prices, I shudder to think what a lowly 4050, 4060 or 4060 Ti will cost,....

I think I'm being priced out of the market,....

I can pay the ~$600 but good God, some years ago I bought a GTX 1060 for something like ~$250 new. I mean,.....WTF!!!

I think the first point you make is very important, as we've recently seen AAA games drastically step up their system requirements. Typically in the past when system requirement increase, performance per dollar was also increasing in the GPU space to ensure that buyers at every budget level could enjoy those games. Today though, what we have are 3 generations of GPUs (2000, 3000, and 4000) where performance per dollar has hardly improved. What this means is that if gamers wish to continue to enjoy games at the level they are used to, they have to pay significantly more then they have in the past. On top of that, for every card under the flagship Nvidia is giving end users less than what they received in the past relative to the rest of the GPU stack. This 4070 is a 4050 Ti if you look at the die size and performance relative to the rest of the stack and compare it to prior gens. 970 was 11% slower than the 980, the 4070 is almost exactly half the performance of a 4090 at 4K.

If you want to see what Asus disillusion looks like:

Can't wait to see the strix price haha (or that might just be that particular retailler having unreal expectation)

Not that bad out here in the states but even the 80 gap isn't worth it to me..... Honestly that looks like a retailer thing more than an Asus thing.

Strix will likely be $750 ish so pretty stupid assuming they even make one.

And this is what will spell the end of PC as a viable alternative to console gaming.

I guess you missed this news post?

I guess you missed this news post?

Yeah, been trying to ignore news post on this dumpster fire of a card but I at least try to support your post with some friendly banter lol.

I had one in my BB basket but I couldn't pull the trigger... I figured if I'm already over paying I should just get a better 1440p card. So i grabbed the Asus Tuf 4070 Ti for 799 msrp. The performance gap from 4070 to 4070 Ti is larger than the price.. Well current prices any way. Also, I need to get my daughter a new gpu so I upgraded and I'll give her my 3070.

If you don't want to answer I don't blame you but any reason you went with this card over the 7900XT?

Either way congrats on the new gpu. I'm sure your daughter is going to love the 3070.

Hopefully the fanboys can contain themselves and sit this one out.

Lol this dumpster fire plays most games at 144Fps 1440p. What's there to complain, i can live for a month or two on photosynthesis if this holds until 5070 sporting 8192 units and 256 bit GDDR7.

If you done all the research looked at all the benchmarks and decided this card is what's best for you in the 600 usd price range great.

Me thinking it's a steaming turd doesn't make you thinking it's a good product invalid or vice-versa.

Enjoy your card :toast: cheers to new tech.

Yeah it was a hard choice, but I went with it for the DLSS3. The power draw on the 7900xt is higher. Plus, If the 7900xt was 799 then I probably would have bought it. 799 was my high limit.. lol
