What's next for Northgard? A sneak peek into what the future holds for our favorite vikings...Ohoi! We're working hard on Northgard and you can expect a ton of new changes this year. Keep in mind this roadmap is mostly tentative, hence why no dates will be revealed as of today. But enough talk, here is what you came for...

The near future
Our next update is the annual major balancing patch. It is coming in the next month or so but it is not exclusively balancing that it will be bringing to the game. Before expanding the game further, it was important for us to focus on some of the more pressing matters that have been brought to our attention over the last few months.

With that, this is some of what the next update will include:

  • A rework of a number of clans and relics
  • Redesign of the base game Warchiefs
  • New unique conquests for some DLC clans (more news coming soon)
  • The spectator mode that you can already try in open beta. Link to the announcement here

Coming this year
A new kingdom will reveal itself! - born from the events of the recent campaign DLC, a new clan from the southern kingdom will join our vikings. They will bring with them other needed reworks and should arrive around the end of summer.

Other vikings arrive on our shores
For the end of the year, another viking clan will arrive and shake up/freshen up the gameplay to provide new and fun ways to play the game.

What else?
Those are the big updates of the year, and as usual we'll continue to update and improve the game based on your feedback. Thank you for being a part of this adventure on Northgard, the spectator mode is one of the most popular demands since launch, and one that we are glad we've had the opportunity to implement and we hope we'll be able to give you even more going forward!

Northgard is a strategy game based on Norse mythology in which you control a clan of Vikings vying for the control of a mysterious newfound continent. Check out the Northgard website.

Starcraft 2 has ruined all RTS games for me, it just plays so much better than everything else I've tried, including Northgard.
I've really tried to get into Spellforce 3 lately but controlling and microing the units feels so much slower, clunkier and not nearly as snappy as in Starcraft.

I'm not sure if I like the cartoony graphical design in a game that tries to be realistic in its setting.

This game was a total letdown to me. So-so mechanics, extremely limited tech and unit trees, and just overall: limited. It burned out after two evenings for me, the first evening spent figuring stuff out.

They're gonna expand it now... don't bother. You'd have to redesign the whole thing. Its just too thin.

Also the looks, indeed, this whole cartoony vibe isn't working for it imho. As it doesn't for many games. Immersion killer. Everything tries to be some kind of WoW 'look at my low poly awesomeness' clone or something, and 90% of it is samey and boring. I don't even know what makes it tick, but a game like Endless Legend made it work. Northgard doesn't.
