Telltale, the leading narrative game development studio and publisher, announced today that its upcoming episodic narrative adventure game, The Expanse: A Telltale Series, has been named an Official Selection for the 22nd Annual Tribeca Festival. Developed in conjunction with award-winning studio Deck Nine Games, The Expanse: A Telltale Series marks the first new Telltale title released since the company's resurrection.

Telltale and Deck Nine will premiere all-new gameplay during the New York City-based festival, which runs June 7-18, and during the adjacent Digital Tribeca Festival Game showcase on June 9th. The Tribeca Festival is also hosting an in-person panel with the game's development team on Saturday, June 10 at 4:30 PM ET. The Expanse: A Telltale Series will be available for hands-on play for ticket holders throughout the event and, as an Official Selection, the game is eligible for the 2023 Tribeca Festival Game Award.

The Tribeca Festival brings artists and diverse audiences together to celebrate storytelling in all its forms, including film, TV, VR, games, music, and online work. The Games program at the Tribeca Festival celebrates the convergence of games, entertainment, and culture, highlighting the storytelling, art, and innovation of games.

"We are thrilled to be a Tribeca Official Selection," said Stephan Frost, the project's game director. "The Expanse is an exceptional work of fiction and we at Deck Nine feel honored to have contributed to this universe in the video game medium."

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is prior to the events of the popular TV series which is available to stream in its entirety on Amazon Prime. Players take on the role of Camina Drummer (played by actress Cara Gee in both the game and TV series), the leader of a scavenging crew on the hunt for a mysterious treasure on the edges of The Belt. As Drummer, players must work with a mix of powerful personalities, square off against a bloody mutiny, explore locations beyond The Belt, and, most of all, make tough decisions that will decide the fate of The Artemis crew.

Several new gameplay elements that go beyond what people experienced with past Telltale titles are introduced in The Expanse. Players have greater authority over the action. The ability to communicate with the crew over radio at the player's discretion keeps the plot and dialogue choices moving forward simultaneously with the player's exploration, and all those character interactions affect the story's conclusion.

"From the very start of development, our focus for The Expanse has been on the quality of the narrative and the opportunity to tell an incredible story filled with amazing characters that the player can participate in," said Telltale CEO Jamie Ottilie. "Being named a Tribeca Festival Official Selection is the ultimate endorsement that we are on the right path, and we are honored to be included."

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is expected to be released for PC and leading consoles in Summer, 2023. To learn more about The Expanse: A Telltale Series and the new Telltale Games, please visit www.Telltale.com.

The Expanse is one of my all time favorite SciFi series. I've watched every episode twice and plan to start a third watching soon.
Man I hope Telltale does a good job on this game.

Yes! Hopefully more exposure will motivate Prime to fund more seasons. There are still a lot of good stories that can be developed.

^ Average semi-realistic space war gameplay. But where are the arsenal ships?

its honestly crap that when the show was extended, the cliffhanger they ended it one earlier...is still the same cliffhanger, the extra episodes were rather irrelevant meh

Headline correction: This game has been announced for quite a while already. The press release is simply announcing that the game will be part of the Tribeca Festival.

The Culture series by Iain M Banks is excellent space opera too. Alastair Reynolds Pushing Ice and the associated books in that universe are also top tier.

Thanks. Hyperion and the entire series of novels have been on my "to read" list for a long, long time. I will get to it eventually. I will check into the other two novels you mentioned.

I really liked the series and the depiction of battles in space and the familiar conflict between tribes, earth, mars, the belt. What I did not like was how the story didn't continue from its origin...the proto life form and the struggle to control it. That story line just went away and each season was disconnected from previous until it became tripe. The ending was pretty meh.

The only thing I remember about Amazon cancelling the series was that it cost them too much per show in comparison to the number of viewers. The shows were very expensive to make mostly due to the level of special effects.

They made both Life Is Strange: Before the Storm and LiS: True Colors. I loved both of those games and I thought they were better crafted games than the core LiS games from Dontnod. I'd say they're perfectly suited to make a Telltale game. Tales From the Borderlands is still my favorite Telltale game, but Deck Nine + Telltale + The Expanse? This certainly has the right ingredients to best it. I hope they can stick the landing.

Honestly the seasons post amazon were very lackluster for me, we went for an almost epic space-opera with massive space battless with implications of a massive ancient civilization... to focusing on petty "planetary level" drama, is like getting to be an F1 driver only for next season to drive foot pedal carts...
It really was noticeable that they cheapened the show (indoor drama scenes are cheap to film and eat runtime, epic space-battles are not).

They squandered the intergalactic aspect completely, i mean... you're at a point like the monolith in 2010.... but then you focus on petty forced drama and almost completely ignore the stargate aspect, what a wasted potential.

And yes the cliffhanger was weak AF

as a lover of the sci-fi genre, I recommend you read Hyperion by Dan Simmons, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, and Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.

Project Hail Mary blew my mind, i was in tears reading that book in you-know-what-part, i seriously hope they do a movie adaptation (Artemis did not pique my interest)

meh.
One bingewatch of the whole 'TV' series is enough for me. Definitely left an impression on me like SG-1, Babylon 5, etc. (To me: that's the mark of good Sci-Fi, regardless of 'content')
It was 'bretty gud' but was a little too close to a 'possible future, on current-path' for my tastes. Mixed feelings, overall.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.
You have my attention.
The TV show was downright wholesome, considering contemporary Sci-Fi and Fantasy (multi)media like The Expanse and Game of Thrones.

You have my attention.
The TV show was downright wholesome, considering contemporary Sci-Fi and Fantasy (multi)media like The Expanse and Game of Thrones.

wait Dark Matter has a tv show? are you sure its based on this book? wtf... i have to do some research now. lmao
