Paradox Interactive and developer Nimble Giant Entertainment, under license from Paramount Consumer Products, today revealed Star Trek: Infinite, a grand strategy game based on the iconic sci-fi franchise. Set a few decades before Star Trek: The Next Generation, players will run an entire fleet within the Star Trek universe, commanding one of four major powers in the galaxy: the United Federation of Planets, Romulan Star Empire, Cardassian Union, or Klingon Empire. Star Trek: Infinite is coming to PC and macOS this Fall.

Star Trek: Infinite puts players in command of one of four major powers in the galaxy, each with individualized traits, stories, quests, and more to make their play feel distinct. With stunning visuals, difficult choices, and unique gameplay, this game allows players to experience a beloved franchise in a new way as they navigate contact with other empires and worlds. "It is an honor to bring one of entertainment's most iconic properties to life for our players and Star Trek's multigenerational fanbase," said Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive. "We know how much this franchise means to fans all over the world, and we are working closely with Nimble Giant and Paramount Consumer Products to create a faithful and fulfilling game that lives up to their expectations."

No, just no. First off that trailer is a mess if it is supposed to be within Star Trek canon between TOS and TNG. Second, I don't want Paradox nickle and dime-ing my ST content.

Just four powers? How are you going to play the Cardassians without Dominion's support?

They will release a dlc of that in the future, only 59.99 for the dlc. Paradox Interactive always releases tons of DLCs.

I played the MOO remake, and it was okayish, but totally lost against Stellaris. I do hope they do a solid game without 300 DLCs.

I loved Birth of the Federation; it's still kept alive by the modding community. However, the promotional text doesn't jibe with the trailer. As @Calenhad said, the ships and, especially the Borg, are inconsistent with this game being between TOS and TNG.

Nice to see a new ST game, but the above statement doesn't exactly follow canon, since the Borg were only seen once BEFORE TNG, in that one episode of Enterprise, and the next face to face encounter (on screen) was with Jean Luc...and AFAIK, the Enterprise D didn't exist before TNG either :(

At best, it can't be more than seven years before TNG. According to Memory Alpha, the first Galaxy class starship was commissioned in 2357:

According to the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual, the Galaxy was launched from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards on Mars in 2356 and commissioned in 2357.

As the name implies, this is going to play loopty-loops with the current Paramount Multimedia Star Trek 'timeline'.

I'm actually really 'hopeful' for this game:
The mobile game Star Trek: Timelines was instrumental in my eventual divestment of interest in Star Trek as a franchise.
If this game can do the same for others, I'll count it as a good thing.

The entire Star Trek franchise reminds me of a Chimera that just wants to be put out of its misery.

What's your beef with the franchise?

To put it in reductionist terms:
An extreme-opposite of Roddenberry's demands on the writing of TNG.
(Roddenberry demanded that there be 0 inter-character conflict [read: "Intrigue"] on-board the Enterprise-D.)
BTW, I've come to realize that Berman(and company) largely 'saved' Star Trek after Roddenberry's passing. Since Berman's departure from the franchise, Parmount has made clear that it has its own agendas with the IP.
Sure, that's the right of the IP-holder; but like The Mouse and Star Wars, it doesn't mean the fans will like it.

IMO, Star Trek was at its best when "Intrigue" was moderate(d), and current events/pop culture were either ignored, or deeply-entwined (and barely face-recognizable) within the setting-believable story.
Ex.
-TOS' Klingons-Romulans were 'cold war allegorical characters', but it was only occasionally overt.
-The Cardassians (and eventually Dominion) were allegorical 'dark mirrors' to injustices and modern imperialism in reality; but it didn't feel preachy, hamfisted, or 'in your face'.

Even ST:VOY seems more 'Star Trek' than anything after Nemesis.
...and Nemesis looks like a 'symptom of the era' thematic-remake of Wrath of Khan, more than the nuTrek Into Darkness.

PS:
If anyone likes Star Trek and wants to invalidate my (potentially, controversial) opinions, I'll make it easy for 'em.
I actually really liked Enterprise, and thought it was canceled right as it was going from 'decent-good' to 'great'.

I liked Enterprise the best out of all the shows. It got canceled so early and with so much potential.

Teaser just kind of looks like Stellaris. It's a Grand Strategy game... in space. From my perspective, it seems like an attempt to copy Creative Assembly's success of Troy, Britannia, Pharoah, etc., spinoffs that are condensed and tweaked versions of the games that already exist.

I guess we'll see how much more there is to it when we see actual gameplay.

You've kind of dotted some is and crossed some ts for me there.

Afaik, Enterprise was supposed to run for 7 seasons. But apparently some "bright" minds at Paramount moved the show from the traditional SciFi day/evening and then they started complaining about loss of audience. So instead of the last seasons depicting the birth of the Federation, everything got compressed into one :(

Ah well... JJ Abrams made sure I won't bother with it again.

The network is was on it was full of poorly written comedies that the show made no sense. A scifi show around crappy non funny comedy shows.
I still love the intro.

Look on the bright side, folks - ST: Strange New Worlds season 2 begins THIS WEEK!
Great, I'll start watching season 1 this week. I usually wait until a show has 3 seasons to start watching it but I'll make an exemption. STD is upto 5 seasons, I stopped at the 1st season.

Discovery improved a lot after its second season. The fourth season, kind of like Enterprise's last one, is very good and is a return to classic Star Trek values of understanding before breaking out the phasers.

I can never get pass what they did to the Klingons. Maybe when the show is over I'll give it a chance.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not US-based, so I only posted what I've heard.
So... Star Trek amidst comedies. Someone thought of this and someone else thought it was a good idea...

Did they make them vegans?
