AMD's Radeon RX 7900 GRE Gets Benchmarked

Genuine question here, why does it work for cpu ? Is there structural reason or how cpu works that make chiplets works for them ?
I'm guessing because CPUs don't do as much parallel computing as GPUs, so data doesn't "hop" so much.

Also, idle power consumption still isn't perfect on Ryzen. 20-25 W compared to maybe 5 W on Intel's monolithic monsters.

The signal has to hop between the GCD and MCD with added latency of 1 clock cycle. 2.5Ghz. and 0,5 Ghz worth of GPU is wasted on hopping.. There is no way to fix that, but to go monolithic again. But funny it is they created the exact configuration of 6950 just to show the weak points even if it has dual issue shaders still falls behind.
I wonder if they're gonna address that somehow on Navi 32 with its 4 MCDs instead of 6 (I know the 7900 GRE has 4 working as well, but the chip is designed around 6).

Similar performance to the 6800XT with same release price, released almost 3 years later.

This has been the most boring generation of consumer GPUs, by far.

AMD’s official MSRP is $649 not $740 as the author suggests.
I NEVER said that that was the MSRP, I said that was the price in the PRC and it's based on the pricing that Expreview posted.
At the time this news post was written, there was no MSRP info available.

The pricing of what? The GRE? What does that matter anyway? You're to compare the MSRP, not current pricing in a given country. Imagine if people reviewed tech based on its prices in Brazil lol
See above. I never claimed it was MSRP.

It works in a very similar way actually. The chiplet design always adds latency to processing. But ryzen is at its fourth generation whereas this is the first attempt. The first gen ryzen was similarly problematic. But it followed a design that was straight up garbage, so it was still much better than that, and was much cheaper than the competition (which the Radeons aren't).
I really hope that AMD can make chiplet work with RDNA4 to be competitive against nvidia and because i plan to upgrade to a 8800(XT) :p

And I never said you did. I just said that you should have gone with the MSRP instead of causing unnecessary confusion, which is exactly what's going on rn :D

Maybe just update the post with the MSRP pricing slide from AMD. Also the Chinese don’t use USD so providing a currency conversion number that only applies to pricing in China is not useful to Chinese or worldwide readership as the Chinese are the only ones effected by the price. So maybe post the Chinese price in Yuan.

How could I have gone with an MSRP I didn't know existed?! Seriously, dude, Expreview only provided that price, there was no MSRP at the time. :banghead:

Hey, no need to get defensive. AMD already had made that information available on their website and I had no way of knowing you are only going by that one source and you didn't check the official announcement...

No need to get defensive? I have two people attacking me here, saying I have f-ed up, when I did no such thing.
Also, this is NOT a fulltime job for me and I wasn't around to update the article until just now.

Also, why would I look at AMD's website when I'm writing a news post about Expreview having tested the card?
Please show me where AMD's press release about this card is?
or where the pricing is on the product page?

I think they are only trying to make a point about some bits in the article, to make it even better (in their points of view at least), not about you as a person. Regardless of their point being right or wrong, it's not against you, imo. Nobody said you F-ed up. Just my 2 cents (I could be wrong). :)

Will be waiting for review of this as it seems like AMD has a reason not to announce 7800 series this time around.

I hope it's not a case of "crap, chiplet GPU doesn't work, let's cancel Navi 32, and release something fast".

OEMs seem to quietly shuffle underperforming parts over to China, so hopefully the 7800s are a better card. They've had plenty of time to work on Navi 32 after all.

Way too expensive if it's priced at 650 usd. For only 15% more money you can already get the 20% faster 7900XT. This one should be 599 max, or even better - 549.

Why all interesting hardware has to be exclusive to some region? The Chinese have had multiple interesting parts and the R5 5600X3D is an USA exclusive.

I dunno, those generations of cards where they just renamed the previous generation and boosted clocks a few percent were pretty bad. This latest round we got actual new products, but they just ain't that impressive. If AMD had called the 7900 series the 7800 series and priced them accordingly, it would be a different story, but they clearly got nothing above Navi 31 to throw at us.

Going by AMD's specifications, the clock speeds are expected to be lower than the 7900 XT. However, their page also shows lower frequencies for the 7900 XT when compared to the 7900 XTX and the claimed difference is far more than what is seen in practice.

Maybe Lisa hates Europe? :D

Look, my phone sent me a notification about this article couple of hours before you published yours:
The MSRP is already in the title and the photos they're using are clearly official AMD slides, which granted might not be taken from their website, but from their presentation.
Considering that wccftech is far from the best tech site around, I just presumed that all the English language press is working with the same release materials.
That's it. No one is saying that you f***ed up. It was just confusing is all ^^

So you expect me to read every website on the internet? Honestly... :banghead:

If AMD had given that to TPU, do you not think someone here would've posted the offical stuff?
Clearly we didn't, hence why I linked to the Expreview review, as that's what I saw popping up on social media.
Please go and complain to AMD and tell them to send us all their press material in a timely fashion from hence forth so we can avoid offending you.
