AMD Reveals Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Ryzen 7 7800X3D Starfield Limited Edition

Meh, limited run of 500 cards, of which about 250 will go to content creators as advertising and the rest will be bought out by scalpers and sit on Ebay for a premium.

You already get Starfield Premium with an XTX and the generic 7800X3D in disposable packaging is, again, only of value to content creators who like to line the backdrop of their recording studio with product boxes.

Yeah if Bethesda can do 'the thing' in space, I frankly don't mind if there are goofy bugs as long as there are goofy mods.
Just installed New Vegas to get my Fallout itch scratched. I've played FO3, FO4, Oblivion, Skyrim, and Starfield is probably going to be best avoided for the first 3 months whilst bugs get fixed. Mods made all of those better.

A better, hotfixed version of Starfield is going to be on sale at Christmas, most likely. Why let impatience scalp me at launch when I have better things to be doing in the sunshine for the next 2-3 months anyway?

Plot twist, Bethesda hired a lot of those mods and had them spend the last year polishing Starfield for launch. Welcome to the thunderdome.

Evidence of polishing is certainly there, but that doesn't mean it'll be bug-free on release day, and I'll eat my hat if there are no patches to fix issues in the first 3 months!

I've also noticed Bethesda and AMD are partnering to give away free copies of Starfield when you buy certain AMD CPUs or GPUs.

Here's the details, some of the hardware gets you the Premium edition, while others get you the Standard edition of the game.

This makes the RX 6950 XT pretty tempting right now because you can get it for around $580, and it has pretty decent performance and a lot of VRAM. It also qualifies you for the premium edition of the game, which retails for $100 on Steam.

ok it does look cool, but again, pointless when the prices remain where they are.
If you are not prepared to pay for a high-end card, it's not a product for you. High tier GPUs is a market on its own and customers who buy those cards are not really fussed too much about 100 bucks up or down when they spend around 1000 bucks.

Do not hope for much lower prices of high tier GPUs, unless you find something on sale. Vast majority of silicon is dedicated to much pricier products for server and AI, both by Nvidia and AMD. The same silicon that goes into 7900XTX can be sold as W7900 Pro for five times more money. So, there is that.

7900XTX can be found 50-80 bucks less expensive than MSRP, plus buyers get a free Starfield, so up to 150 of saving. Not enough? Look for different cards.

special editions can be cool, that starfield controller or the Zelda OLED switch are clearly popular according to sales ranking here and there.

I just don't understand what's the point here of making 500, either you don't make or you make but for sale to a general audience...

Special edition aren't licensed necessary it can be an atypical design, something that changes from the boring RGB designs we keep seeing

Looks like this is where the money was spent, shame.

Working closely with the developer my arse.

Well its good that 7900 XTX is not for sale then because I would be sore that I just got a MBA 7900 XTX and I kind of like the colors of this special edition one. Although I did get it for $150 cheaper than MSRP with Starfield Premium Edition, so not really regretting the purchase.

The 7800X3D one is... not so enticing since I'm sure they got a normally-binned CPU and put it in the uniquely-colored box, aimed at collectors.

"Not for sale" that's one way to shoot yourself in the foot. Starfield Xbox controller is very popular.

Yea, really wondering why they're not doing more collaborations. You could even win folks from the other team if they're into a special design. It just needs some custom back/front plate and a little paint.

Exactly. :) Only 500 makes them pretty much unobtainable, and that's even without the scalpers. Supply/Demand.

Not to mention, binning doesn't even matter with the X3D, as it is a locked chip, pretty much running at fixed clocks all the time (if your cooling allows it).

Done. It was quite a bit of manual work. How do you guys like this approach? If it's something we do regularly I could write a plugin for it that automates moving the posts and adjusting timestamps
I think it's good. Keeps the forum nice and clean. :)

At least this is a great marketing stunt! Oh wait

I can be pretty negative at times, but this kind of negativity is something even I don't understand. You don't have to like this card, you can just buy a normal GPU like 99% of people do. But to be so sour about it... what's the point?

Im mostly sour about AMDs marketing. Its just short of effective, every time

Marketing is always best ignored, imo. No need to be sour about something aimed at people with much less technical knowledge than yours. ;)

AMD should sell its GPU division to Intel, as it is unable to compete with Nvidia.
Yeah, because Intel is doing a much better job at competing with Nvidia. Both the A380 and A770 destroy the entire Ada lineup single-handedly.
