Hello everyone, we have released our first major patch for Baldur's Gate 3, addressing over 1000 bugs, balancing, flow issues and much, much more. So what can you expect from this update? Well, we've eliminated issues like NPCs who sometimes spot you when they really shouldn't be able to, floating items like mugs and newspapers that should abide the laws of gravity, and the conclusion to Shadowheart's romance scene not triggering for some players, among others. With expansive systems come many unknowns, so our support team continues to work with you to relay any issues to us. Please don't hesitate to reach out with further reports. Patch 1 also tackles a few visual bugs, and sprinkles on more post-launch polish. We're bringing back Short King Summer with better kissing contact for short races!

You won't be waiting long for Patch 2, which is right around the corner. This update will feature significant performance improvements - but we'll go into more detail about that closer to its release. In the meantime, did you know that collectively you've played over 200,000,000 hours of Baldur's Gate 3 since launch? That's over 22,000 years! The most popular class choice is currently Paladin, followed by Sorcerer, while the award for least popular class goes to Cleric. Human and Elf characters reign supreme in Faerûn, followed swiftly and unsurprisingly by Half-Elf. On the opposite end of the spectrum we find Dwarf, Gnome, Githyanki, and Halfling. We get it, they're not exactly the most ethereal beauties of the Realms but they'd still form a rad metal band. For now, as we focus on fixes, thank you for playing Baldur's Gate 3 and continuing to share this adventure with us.

SPOILERS - Please bear in mind some of the entries might contain spoilers, proceed at your own risk.

It's party time! Baldur's Gate 3 is out now on PC. 6 years in the making, we sincerely hope you enjoy the adventure!

based on a quick google search both games actually had 400 developers, and I would also argue the early access feedback for bg3 gave them an edge/less excuse to not have bugs.

This particular studio gets virtually unlimited grace these days due to their pro-gamer stance on microtransactions, the incredible quality and depth of the game given their size, and how honest and straightforward they've been throughout the process and release.

Everyone sees what they're trying to do and we're here for it.

EA on the other hand -- as soon as I see that logo I'm already annoyed, as an example.

Not all bugs are created equal. Some you don't notice and some are game breaking.

Absolutely this. I haven't even played the game yet but I pre-ordered. It's their entire approach that let money come out of my wallet.

It's the complete opposite of Bethesda/Starfield. They'll sell a bijillion copies now, 5 years from now, and for the 10th anniversary release. Yet they still found the need greed to partner with AMD for even more cash. Even if it's just the impression that DLSS was cut out because of the "partnership" (I don't really care if it's true or not), it makes it pretty clear that we (endusers/gamers) aren't their first priority. It's the cash from AMD that was.

With Larian, it's clear they're putting us first.

While I agree with you, I would ask you to play Devil's Advocate. Ask yourself, did Larian even get an offer from nvidia or amd or did the mega corps of the world think BG3 would be too small to bother with, so was Larian never tempted? I would need to know the answer to that question before I could fully agree with you.

1000 bugs isn't a lot in a big project. A bug can be anything from "BSOD and messes up the Windows registry" (made up example) and "Fixed a seam between tiefling bodies and their tails" and don't forget the game breaking "Made sure bears close their eyes when they sleep" (the last two is from this patch).

Depends on the kinds of bugs, entirely, and Bethesda has a history of assigning priority 3 (never fix, basically, if you like profit over good customer care) to anything that doesn't straight up delete the PC its played on. Oh yeah and shop content, ofcourse, ingame shop's gotta work well, yes yes.

Please remove the poor Calimero egg hat :) Bethesda is given far too much credit as it is and Starfield will sell regardless of endless complaints.

Why does it matter? It only matters when a company takes the offer, imho, PLUS, BG3 has a Nvidia Gameworks ad popping up before title. Relevance? Whatever imho

This is what makes the difference. And not only is the journey TO launch great, but the actual launch is a resounding success too.

There are lots of similarities to how Crate handled Grim Dawn, and I might dare say both are sleeper hits, and similarly fantastic games to play with hundreds of hours of (re)play value.

My BG3 experience has been very positive so far.

My god this. Thankful for the others that caught it too. Atleast critical thinking isnt totally dead. It drives me wild when people only use numeric metrics for things of this nature. It drives me absolutely wild.

You also have different industry and team standards as to what even constitutes a bug. While generally programmatic in nature, it can be as simple as an item appearing as the wrong color, or the text in a box appearing before the lips move. Maybe they spelled a main characters name incorrectly in a different act.

The majority probably arent noticeable, even more may only be noticeable when using a certain system config or driver version.

I judge things like this as a positive not a negative against the company, because they are putting in the man hours to fix what I can only imagine is obscure to most. Out of all of these 1000+ bugs you might notice like 5. 3 of which your not even sure if it was supposed to happen and 1 you didnt even notice.

My play through so far has been great thankfully, my only issue is swapping out my 4090 for my A770 caused the game to get angry, which I imagine is because it doesn't detect GPU changes. When the crash log showed up I reported it and even added that it may be because the game settings were still set for m 4090 and that the issue may go away if they implement a feature to detect GPU settings and auto reset to default.

ive played like 45mins across 5 different hotfixes, had at least three gamebreaking bugs including one reproducible hardcrash (which was a regression, too KEKW), of which some are still unfixed

so yeah, if this is considered the gold-standard these days, brave new world indeed.

Naaah. Starfield is a Bethesda game. I don't personally know anyone expecting it to have less than a million bugs.

n=1 does not a great analysis make. I had a couple of crashes in one of the smaller underground areas with a lot of NPC's, but that's it. I gather it might be a PSU/GPU driver issue in my case, as those stopped when I lowered my GPU's power cap by 10%.

Anyway, out of curiosity, Is your PC setup somehow special, overclocked etc, or what have you done in game to cause these? The general consensus seems to be that crashes in the game are pretty rare.

except that BG3 was day one playable and released relatively well polished, sure bugs, quests that couldn’t be finished because of something happened were present not denying it

..but different than a fundamental engine flaw or a game crashing intermittently

there are different types of bugs you do know that

and to finish, Larian is not Bethesda + Xbox, released the game in early access and listened to feedbacks for years, more transparency is always rewarded

I sure as hell never heard this greed argument with NV sponsored titles that sold millions of copies like D4, Spiderman, Cyberpunk, BF2042, Doom eternal etc.

Cyberpunk even feels like an nvidia published game but it sure didn't stop 8million people from pre ordering it
