AMD and Bethesda's Starfield Game Bundle promotion kicked off back in mid-July, with a wide range of current and previous generation hardware qualifying for the campaign. It was very apparent, at the time, that Team Red had bolstered the list of GPUs with plenty of mid-range RX 6000-series (RDNA 2) models—in absence of heavily rumored successors. AMD's Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT graphics cards were finally introduced at Gamescom 2023, and reached retail outlets yesterday. Post-unveiling it was revealed that all Radeon RX 7000-series desktop cards would be eligible for the Starfield campaign, but the new Navi 32-based models were not mentioned in specifics.

AMD has—very recently—quietly updated its Reward and Gaming campaign pages with revised information—Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT GPUs are now present on the list of qualifying products, alongside the addition of an oddball semi-sibling—Radeon RX 7900 Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE). These graphics cards sit in an upper tier that grants customers a digital download copy of Starfield Premium Edition.

Then you have not looked at the right places. No game is perfect but but the game has some weird priorities.

Like the fact that you can fly 7+ hours to Pluto in real time seamlessly (something that 99% people wont try) and planets actually follow their orbits but at the same time you have to endure constant loading screens when exiting or entering you ship. (something that 99% people will have to endure).

But regardless of the game itself it does add value to the new cards to have a new AAA game bundled with it.
Personally id rather have them $60 cheaper and choose my own game or no game.

wooahh, pump your brakes buddy. I've been around long enough to know that no game is "perfect". Lets not twist words here. I said its a hell of a game and folks are getting it basically free in addition to their AMD purchases. As for the buy your own game statement - buy a soon to be reduce priced 4070 and buy your own game. You're that guy who wouldn't be happy if someone gave you a million dollar home and be like, I rather they give me the million dollars so I can build my own...

Yes im "that" guy. I dont like decisions made for me or "gifts" that i dont need. And that's coming from a person who actually prefers Sci-Fi games.

It's on Game Pass so it's kinda hard to get hyped about a free game which I already have access to.

I would imagine it has something to do with the value proposition - you can't include a game valued at nearly half the CPUs price (eg Ryzen 7600 with Premium). Premium Edition is included with the Ryzen 9 7900 and above.

I'm not much of a gamer these days, but it must be good as I've seen a massive positive change in AMD CPU sales since the promo was launched.

True, but whether Starfield is on Game Pass or not wouldn't affect my choice to subscribe. My point is that whilst there's obviously plenty of people buying AMD stuff with this bundle who don't have Game Pass, I'm sure there will be an awful lot of people who do have it, making this bundle pretty much worthless to them. That said, it's still better than Nvidia's crappy Overwatch 2 skins bundle!

That's totally fair. It's hard to know how many people make purchasing decisions based on bundles but I could see it being tempting to the crowd of people who are upgrading to play a specific game. I personally wouldn't think it would be that likely to sway a lot of people but AMD seems really committed to decent game bundles lately so there must be some benefit to it. Remember getting the uncharted collection along with my 5950x. Didn't influence my decision at all and wouldn't played the game if I wasn't given it for free but it's better than a kick in the teeth. Can also see value for people who want the game but don't want to pay for game pass forever. Definitely can't say that AMD GPUs are only selling because of Starfield, but you also can't say it's not a factor without having their sales data/research.

The gamepass proposition seems a lot more likely to influence Xbox sales as you are only paying for the console + 15 bucks to get going. Obviously it costs more over time but I think we've seen people are willing to commit to large costs ($180 per year) if they are billed in $15 increments for whatever reason.

I think a good game bundle does actually sway me a little bit. I bought a 7800X3D earlier this year which came with Star Wars Jedi Survivor. I was going to sell it to a friend, but decided to keep it in the end, & I haven't even opened it! There's just too many other good games out at the moment.
Subscriptions are evil genius, more people can afford $15 now rather than $60. For a lot of people it's more about cashflow than the raw amount. Just look at mortgages.

Not to mention the absolute explosion lately of "Split your purchase into 4 easy payments" options on virtually all online sellers (read: no barrier to entry credit cards). You could get a 7800xt and starfield for $125 initially going that route. So basically $25 for a 7800xt as the premium version of starfield that is bundled in is $100 on it's own. Can absolutely see how that would be enticing.

Ugh, those spread the cost for a non-0% interest rate things are awful. Just baiting people into things they clearly can't afford. When it's 0% though...well why not :D

Yep, debt is a fine tool as long as you are able to manage it accordingly. Those seem to be targeted at people who don't have the ability to pay the full amount so monthly payments make it "affordable". Just kicking the can down the road.

You could use it to invest the money not paid up front and get a return on it as you make payments on what is effectively an interest free loan. Basically the advantage of a mortgage vs paying for something up front in full. Could be done with very little risk (especially if you're just collecting interest and not putting the money into more risky stocks) so in theory this would be the financially prudent way to go but I doubt most people have the self restraint to not touch the money that was "saved". You aren't making a lot from interest on a few hundred dollars over a few months but money is money nonetheless.

I used to do exactly this with 0% for X months credit cards, but it stopped being worth it with such low interest rates everywhere for such a long time. That's changed now though!
I'm rethinking my comparison to mortgages, which they are just giant loans, they're also leveraged bets on house prices, so you actually do have a good chance to make money from them, unlike normal pay later things!

Good point. Your house (hopefully) doesn't lose a significant portion of its value straight away from being "used" like a product does. As long as the return from investment of money not paid up front + change in house price > interest payments made you're in a good place.

Well when the alternative is throwing the same amount of money in a pile & burning it every month (renting), there's almost no downside tbh! 30 years of rent results in nothing, 30 years of mortgage (hopefully) results in an asset that has appreciated a bunch!
Anyway, enough mortgage chat, let's get back to wasting money on overpriced GPUs!
