Apple Unveils iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with USB-C Connectivity

Word "super" was used five times in this press release.
At least they did not call USB-C a revolution or something like that and still non-Pro models are gimped in that regard.

the 1tb 15 pro max is 2,500,000 korean won, i think i will hang onto my 12 pro max another 2 years ... a bit too pricey for my taste

"Super-C" Sounds like a video game but could be the next trendy name for USB.

Looks like Apple had no choice but to use USB C when the E.U. mandated it.
True, but Apple is spinning it as though they were always going to move to USB-C.

Anyway it's a long overdue move and at least it's supporting a decnet speed, as some rumours were suggesting it would be USB 2.0 speeds.

The camera system looks good, but I'm 3 years away from updating my phone. Maybe I'll pick up a second hand 17 Pro Max after 18 is launched.

designed with aerospace-grade titanium

aerospace-grade titanium? Didn't know there are multiple types of Titanium. It's a revelation!!

That's just the same marketing waffle as "military grade" in our beloved GPU's and motherboards.
I assume they mean the same kind of alloy, though.

It's made from recycled airplanes...

considering the heavy focus on the camera performance (no only for Apple and the iPhone), I'm really start thinking what would be the price of a phone without a camera (except one basic front camera for calling). The today market seems really turning around the "new camera" before anything else about a new smartphone product... People not interested in those aspects should have options in the high end market without spending extra money due to the presence of multiple performance camera.

Wonder if Apple will be able to best the Pixel 6a in MKBHDs blind camera test. Apple took the 7th spot, while a 4 year old 12.2MP sensor in the Pixel 6a took the top spot.

Most exciting thing that came out of this event honestly was all the environmental stuff they are doing. What would be cool, is to get to a point where whenever you buy their product, you are actually carbon negative. Their entire production and logistics chain is not only fully offset, but they offset more than is used. Push that further and they offset the entire projected lifecycle of their products. Apple seems like a company that would go down this road.

I own an iPhone 7+ and is as fast as I need it for all tasks. No fancy cameras thou and still can be used in any possible ways.
Cannot wait for the replaceable batteries phones to come out. Then smart people would only buy a new phone if the new features really are worth buying.
Just imagine iPhone 11 or 12 having a replaceable battery, haha

The camera in itself isn't that expensive, sure it's not free but the expensive part is the software that makes the picture looks great on such tiny camera. Fairphone with the Fairphone 4 was equiped with a decent camera module but the software was really bad and the picture was as good as a 150-200 phone. They have finally been able to make decent picture with the Fairphone 5.

They can be replaced but only by a certified professional who has a lot of luck to make every step right.
I have just read the guides and they look nasty, it's close to impossible to make it work without messing up something.

I wonder why there is still no feedback from the customers to ask for interchangeable batteries.
If Apple refuses to listen to it, then ask them to meet in the court for a class-action suit to fix the issues.

That's a lot of steps. I miss my android where I could just pop in a new battery just by removing the cover.

What's most funny, most buyers will not care. It's a 'charging' cable, not 'USB data' cable...

they'll notice if apple didn't do the cables properly and they on slow charge on charger not from apple. I have a bunch of 2.0 cables i bought from ugreen that only slow charge because they're not coded properly for fast charge.

Phones didn't get expensive because of cameras, or performance, or any one thing in particular. There was a big price hike ramp starting around 2015 that gradually went towards the 1000$ for high end devices because manufacturers realised smartphones were able to do it all and more and more were replacing what previously was only done on a computer/laptop.

On a capitalist society the market prices what the market can bear, if expensive smartphones didn't sell they'd quickly become cheaper...

Well in 2 years they will be force to adopt the interchangeable battery mode, or bye-bye EU market.
Those will be good times.

People really misunderstand the EU battery regulation. All that’s required is that manufacturers offer instructions and make tools available to change the battery. There’s a requirement that a layperson is able to change the battery, but no real language defining what that means. It’s not going to change much other than getting what ifixit offers from first parties.

Not exactly true.
Quote:
Manufacturers must put easy-to-replace batteries inside smartphones and tablets by 2027. These must be easily removable and replaceable by the end-user.

So not sure what tools and instructions do you need, that the average Joe cannot do it. ;)

It has more room for interpretation than we'd like but it should at least prevent things like having to break a screen to replace the battery like it often used to happen with surface devices
