Microsoft put up the latest Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 on Windows Update (retail channel). Referenced in KB5030310, this update to Windows 11 has been found to break the usability of the AMD Software application, or the main control panel utility of AMD Software Adrenalin drivers. The latest Windows 11 cumulative update preview causes AMD Software to reset custom user settings upon each system reboot (hard reboot, which reloads drivers and starts a new user session, not fast startup). The bug does not, however, affect the core display driver functionality. It's more likely that this issue will be addressed by an AMD Software update, than having to wait for the next Windows 11 Patch Tuesday.

Doubt they care what they brake! Let the driver devs figure it out!
Sometimes these things happen because the software uses deprecated APIs that get removed at some point. But that's just a generic consideration, I have no idea what is causing this very breakage.

It is co-pilot at fault here...

The AMD community shows a fix disabling that crap with vivetool.

So, a bug in .Net?

That's an artificial intelligence assistant... it just accidentally pokes his nose where it shouldn't I guess. No wonders there.

Copilot and new features are not a part of KB5030310, but KB5030509, which is only released to small bunch of Release Preview users. Full Release Preview roll out is not in plans at the moment.

Highly likely they will abandon it very soon, just like they did with Cortana. It's only available in USA and just few more countries.

Or you de bloat your W10/11 from all preinstalled Win Apps including MS Edge XBox Bar Widget App/W11 and first and foremost Win Store then disable useless services!! In W10 you can go as low as 56 and 1.8gb ram and in W11 about 67 and 2.3gb ram at boot!! No apps/services at boot your CPU nad Memory is not wasted for useless crap especially MS Apps which You MUST HAVE!!! ;) and last thing use OOShutUp to disable Telemetry and other crap! And then do manual daily Update and you wont brake your system because there's nothing to brake!! Updating you will receive mostly MS Defender Update and sporadically you will get some necessary Windows Net and things like that!!

Am running W11 just like that last 3 months for +-12h a day and never had any issues!! Same with W10 and that was working more then 12 months ;)

Windows 11 is garbage, don't use it unless you have to (or if you are a masochist.)
It has a few annoying changes under the hood, but nothing a home user would ever notice. I just hope one day I'll be able to move the taskbar to the side of the display again.

Almost every week I see news of some W11 update causing issues, I would certainly notice that. My system hasn't had a single problem since installation, the stability is perfect and I just want to keep it that way.

My Win11 install didn't have a single problem either. So where does that leave us?

Ain't the kernel integration done partly? They are readying it and slowly baking everything in. The fact that vivetool works exactly disabling it with a known reg, kind speaks for itself, M$ does more than they tell us. That's the price using closed source code.

If the OS is stable and compatible with everything you need, there is no reason to change it.

That's also true. Fwiw, I didn't jump on Win11 until about a year after its release. Even then, I did it mostly out of curiosity, since I'm mostly booting Linux anyway. I tried to stay away, but the engineer in me needed something to tinker with :D

The sad part that the engineering stuff is mostly done in windows... any tools, calibration etc... we can have our wet penguin fantasies but Wintel is strong and alive... this bug particularly shows it. Also it shows how disconnected from reality is OS development often. It is mostly done in VM's these days and testing is done there... so hello

As someone who has hundreds of computers to update monthly (plus hundred or so servers) I can only roll eyes each time there are comments about Windows update and breaking things.
I will not claim "It just works" © Todd Howard, but in general they really do just work.

It depends. If you mean employers will just blindly install Windows because AD and Outlook, then yes. But many things these days are dockerized (i.e. not Windows) and when the employer gives me a Windows machine, the next thing I do is install VirtualBox+OpenSuse TW or OpenSuse TW in WSL.
Developing for Docker on Windows is just painful.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
This shows just how back bad quality control at Microsoft has become.

It annoys me that Microsoft knowingly breaks Radeon Software even in production versions of W10 and W11 by forcing just the bare driver without checking for (and also updating) the matching control panel component of the Radeon Software bundle.

edit
back? That's not even a typo! I must be going dyslexic :\

Update Preview? You mean beta level update happens to break something? Ho-hum, guess it's a slow news day.

Wonder what the volume of articles would be if we wrote one every time there was a Linux kernel beta patch or a beta distribution preview update that broke a piece of software?

OMG, read something about it first.

"Update Preview" is tested and released update to fix something urgent when it is not possible to wait to standard Patch Tuesday (monthly released cumulative update).
