Where there is a will, there is always a way. I'm sure that they'll be able to find them on the blackmarket or a 3rd party/subsidiary with links to the GPu partner will do some under the table dealings to get China some if the price is right.

Are these restrictions really effectives ?
I mean, can Chinese people buy RTX 4090 in Europe or Asia ?
Do nVidia will have compensation, after all, they cannot sell a product to a whole country, it's a loss of money, no ?
Nvidia will have no compensation for being restricted in China. They did not get any compensation for restricting GPU's in Russia or any other sanction. This is the price for doing business in other countries. No one knows if tariffs, sanctions, and restrictions will hit. Companies can protect themselves by working with stable countries and governments. However, the amount of money that can be made in China is worth the risk of export issues.

As for buying them in other countries, yes they can, however, China may not like that. Import taxes in China are very high and there are many cases where Chinese citizens are arrested for smuggling computer components through customs.

But your right, if China or Chinese companies want to use these GPU's, all they need is a place to work in another country where the 4090 can be purchased. It's a hollow effort.

Why? What's going on?
It's in the literal article your replying to dude.

Going to ask the same what I did before - this is only delaying the inevitable, what then when said inevitable happens?
Technology is a race. Delaying tactics work well in races. It's amazing how many people don't get this.

Well it will only accelerate China's domestic manufacturing of GPUs, Huawei's ST910B can now already rival the A100. NVIDIA's CEO Jen- Hsun Huang is probably really pissed now, lol

More for EU then? Lower prices?
Most likely it will raise the cost of NVIDIA GPUs for everyone, as the company will make less money and produce less 4090s at least, thus every unit will cost more.

Does it honestly look like China is going to be delayed? The catchup seems inevitable at this point and not really that surprising considering the resources available to them and the use of said resources for the explicit purpose of doing just that. ASML and the likes won't be monopolists forever.
And there is a reasonable chance India might get there as well, just much later.

This ideology implies the incumbent tech supreme are not also pushing boundaries, by the time China Ramps decent output on 7nm the west will be way beyond that.

Try catching the runner, the runner has lever's to trip those following like this.

The chaser has espionage and that's all really.

Anyway Nvidia bios department got owned.

There LIMITED tech won't stay limited.

They'll just ship compliant parts , China then mod upto the required spec.

Will it? The gap is getting smaller, not staying the same or increasing. I might be wrong of course, but 1.4 billion people and the second economy (probably first in couple of years) is a serious argument.
They do have certain specific issues, I will give that (as an example - jet engines, ~3 decades later they are still buying superior ones from Russia and that is changing much slower than Beijing wanted to).

Vs an instant purchase? Yes.
I... have no idea what this means.

I don't disagree, but I do acknowledge the goals at play.

I just gotta laugh when i see stuff like this. Obviously, its the CCP were trying to limit, but like in the US, its the regular people that get hurt by stuff like this. Of course its for optics though cause most people wont go deeper than the bold print after the headline or just read the caption under a pict. All the fabs and manufacturing is over there with them, so youre not going to stop them from getting anything they want. On top of that, weve pushed them to cozy up and become BFF's with Russia, who turns out some of the best hackers and computer guys in the world and arent too shabby in the Space and conventional weapons arena. :shadedshu: As soon as a real AI is accidentally released, cause its always a accident like with 23 and me, civilization is over.

Maybe it's the language barrier but I still fail to understand the context.

No worries. It's not a huge point either way.
