Today AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) introduced flagship laptop graphics processor AMD Radeon RX 7900M, the fastest AMD Radeon GPU ever developed for laptops1. Built on groundbreaking AMD RDNA 3 architecture, the new high-performance GPU brings incredible gaming and content creation performance to mobile systems, delivering 7% on average higher performance than the competitive offering in select games at QHD resolution.

In addition, today Alienware announced the latest member of the Alienware m18 laptop family featuring the new AMD Radeon GPUs. Powered by AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processors and AMD Radeon RX 7900M GPUs and leveraging advanced AMD smart technologies, the Alienware m18 is the ultimate AMD Advantage laptop, offering astonishing performance to power the most demanding games and content creation applications.

"The Alienware m18 is our most advanced and powerful AMD Advantage laptop, designed to deliver no-compromises, desktop-level performance for gaming and content creation applications," said Frank Azor, chief architect of Gaming Solutions and Marketing at AMD. "We worked closely with Alienware on the development of the system to offer the best mobile experiences possible, and we think customers will be absolutely delighted with what this system can do."

"The Alienware m18 delivers the best mobile gaming solutions with desktop-level performance driving a spacious 18-inch display," says Matt McGowan, Alienware Product Lead. "This performance juggernaut will transport you into your game-of-choice in style, and with full immersion."

The AMD Radeon RX 7900M GPU offers 72 AMD RDNA 3 compute units featuring new AI and second-generation ray tracing accelerators, 16 GB of high-speed GDDR6 VRAM, AV1 encoding and more to push the limits of gaming and content creation on the go. Key features include:

  • AMD RDNA 3 Architecture - Features redesigned compute units with unified ray tracing and AI accelerators, second-generation AMD Infinity Cache technology and second-generation ray tracing technology.
  • Dedicated AI Acceleration - New AI accelerators are optimized for the latest AI workloads. New AI instructions and increased AI throughput are designed to deliver more performance than AMD RDNA 2 architecture.
  • 16 GB VRAM for 1440p Gaming - 16 GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory enables gamers to experience the latest titles at 1440p and beyond, and allows content creators to unpack high-resolution textures, and render complex 3D environments and animations in real time.
  • Improved Streaming & Ultra-High-Definition Encoding - Improved AMD encoders deliver enhanced visual quality when streaming and recording. AMD AI and content adaptive machine learning technology has also been integrated into the AMD Media Framework to enable sharper text when streaming at low bitrates and resolutions. In addition, the encode/decode media engine unlocks new multi-media experiences with full AV1 encode/decode support, wide color gamut and high-dynamic range enhancements.
  • GPU Model: AMD Radeon RX 7900M
  • Compute Units: 72
  • Memory Size: 16 GB
  • GPU Clock Speed: 1825 MHz Up to 2090 MHz
  • Memory Bus Width: 256-bit
  • Infinity Cache: 64 MB
  • TGP: 180 W

So 4608 shaders, I suppose it uses a cut-down Navi31 chip?

Issue is few laptops come equipped with AMD GPUs.

Interesting. 4000 mobiles didnt impress at all, their power efficiency seemed not to translate to performance improvements. Look forward to benchmarks. A razer 18 with the 7900m and a 7940h would be sweet.
18 inch display? Might as well buy a desktop, it will be just as mobile.
It's a 17.3" laptop with a 16:10 screen. If you think a desktop is as mobile as that, you need your head examined.

Issue is few laptops come equipped with AMD GPUs.
Part of that issue - AMD laptop GPUs come out WAY later then NVidia. Case in point, this article. Mobile RTX 4000 came out over half a year ago.

Should be interesting. CU count is between a 7900 GRE, and 7800 XT.

Damn. If that actually runs at 2000 mhz this is pretty heavy weight for a lappy. Seems legit. 180W does seem like a lot to take for that form factor. You're gonna be looking at 225-240W system for sure for any half decent CPU perf.

Interesting. I go to the Dell website...and try to spec this out with 64GB RAM....and the 7900M....and it immediately defaults to the 4900 NVidia GPU.

Selecting a different SSD does the same.

Exactly my thought. This would be awesome if it's used in a desktop card. Would be ideal for a high end SFF build.

Some people need the power of desktop but more mobile and takes less space, it's a niche market but given the price few people are able to afford this kind of "laptops".

I looked over the Dell website and this one goes for $2800. My problem here was, you cant change the display resolution to higher than FHD. When you do it automatically switches the graphics to 4090 as well. Bummer since FHD for this AMD card is a bit low. Maybe they will expand the offer later.
