Looks nice, but if they could make it in a laser version, I might have a reason to upgrade my current laser printer @home (also a Brother MFC), cause I ditched inkjets many years ago and haven't looked back since :)

I showed this to my mother and asked her if she thought Big Tech was coming to eat Cricut's lunch, finally, after all these years.

She reminded me this wasn't big tech, it's the company that makes her sewing machine.

She is, ofc, correct.

Goes to show sometimes it truly matters what angle you come at something from. :)

Considering the reliability of the average printer in this price range, I fear that this will certainly not make the printer more reliable.
At least it's a feature I haven't seen on a printer before, which is why I posted the press release. Might be handy for people that hand out a lot of small bits of paper...

Fair enough, I guess I was mostly venting about the quality of printers, and honestly buying cheap is a cause of this.

Will it continue to scan documents, at least in black and white, if the yellow ink cartridge is almost empty?

From my experience brother is the least bad in that regard.
Canon loves to lock people out and HP loves to drm lock cardridges.

At least tthe brither laser printers at work allowed for the toner level to be reset with some workaround.

Brother commands a premium price and a very high reputation for its laser printers.

I didn't know they branched into ink-jet (or even ink-jet + automatic scissors). In any case, I don't remember Brother ever doing shenanigans like Epson or HP. Brother's software is pretty basic and they're rarely flashy about anything. But their stuff has always worked for me.

From personal experience at work brother laser printers only last a couple of years until they start experiencing jams and folds in the paper they print. cleaning does not help at that point and there is no obvious fix. Granted this is at higher print volumes than home use but still only in the 10-30k pages range.

This is their black and white laser printers though.

Often that is the windows printer driver, refusing to print when a printer is offline, even though it only requires a wake-up signal, things like that. In that regard printing on anything that is not windows, including linux goes smoother.
