it saddens me that Alienware is still alive
Its called "Gaming Systems for Dummies", and unfortunately, I was one of those dummies when I got a laptop from them over 10 years ago. I thought I was buying power when in reality I was buying above average power having tons of bloatware with generic parts that was overpriced. At least I got about 7 years out of the thing before the hard drive & graphics card decided to start dying.

Any measurements? Did you read TPU review of 7800X3D?
X3D SKUs are super power efficient and use FAR less power in ST, MT, applications and gaming than all Raptor Lake CPUs in their category.
In multi-threaded power efficiency, Ryzen 5000 and 7000 CPUs occupy 8 out of first 10 spots.

No, they don't. The 7800x 3d has the same ST performance as the 13400f, and guess what, the 13400f is 45% more efficient in ST tasks...

AMD occupies the top of the table in MT performance cause guess what, all Intel cpus (with one exception) are the power unlimited ones. It's not a very reasonable comparison. Put the T and non k line of Intel CPUs and you won't see a single AMD entry in the top 10 - maybe even top 20

You know what else is super awesome with power? The Celeron N4020 in my netbook. It eats 6 Watts with both the CPU and iGPU fully loaded! I still wouldn't compare it to a 7800X3D, though.

Sure, you can get better efficiency combined with lower performance, but what you're talking about still isn't the no.1 metric of desktop CPUs. The 13400F and 7800X3D don't compete in the same league.

1. Show me where I can buy a T-series Intel CPU these days.
2. See the diagram I posted above regarding the effect of a power limit to gaming performance. If you limit the 14900K to 50 W (that's what the 7800X3D eats in games), you'll see performance way below that of the 7800X3D. How does that mean better efficiency to you? Also, check out the 14900K review here on TPU. It achieved the same gaming performance as the 7800X3D on average with a 169 W average power consumption. If you power limit it below this level, of course you'll see lower performance. The 14900K's efficiency is lower than that of the 7800X3D in every gaming scenario under every possible power limit!

Edit: One thing I'm not sure of is why you argue this again. It is not the topic here, and nobody cares anyway. You derail almost every single thread with an argument about Intel vs AMD power efficiency. What are you trying to prove and to whom?

Does the celeron n4020 have the same ST performance? Probably not. The 13400f has the same ST performance so it's very comparable in terms of ST efficiency.

Blah Blah Blah. even when given evidence you still persist. Show me one media review where AM5 CPUs draw more power vs 13th and especially 14th Gen. You claim that you gained 20% when dropping power 40% and then what does Wizzard's investigation reveal? I am pretty sure it was not 20% uplift. Then when people talk about 14th Gen you bring 12th Gen into your equation to go from a European Football Net to Australian Rules Football Posts. What I don't understand is how you wax so wrongly in AMD threads telling AMD users that they are wrong in their opinions on the performance of their computers. Well I will give you some reasoning to think about. If AM5 was so bad why did Intel release a new generation of CPUs that are pumped to the max within a year of each other, using the same Chipset. Well you can thank AMD for that. Fortunately Germany is not under as much propaganda as America so these culture War comparisons don't hold as much weight and that is why AMD did such a huge launch in Germany recently. Before you jump down my throat there are how many Microenters in the US? I am sure it is not 40 and yes Best Buy sells GPUs but Newegg shows a steady flow for the uptake of AMD and Amazon has AMD in like 65% of the top 35 CPUs sold (In Canada) so like Kitty Litter Pens in high schools in the US and Western Canada your opinions of AMD products are based entirely on propaganda.

You are missing the point completely. The 13400f in ST performance and power draw is an underclocked (add any high end cpu intel here). So it's a clear demonstration of the high power draw in simple tasks that the 7800x 3d needs 45% more power for the same work as an Intel cpu.

I don't see increased performance, only decreased power. Don't get me wrong, it is impressive that you didn't lose (much) performance, but that is still nowhere near the 7800X3D's ~50 W gaming power.

I don't have a 4090, though, so our results would be totally incomparable. Neither do I have the game (yet).

All I know is that my 7800X3D draws ~80-82 Watts in Cinebench MT. It surely can't draw more than that in a game.

As for the performance, some games run way better on AMD, even better on X3D AMD, but some others run way better on Intel. This has always been the case. No one said that X3D destroys Intel in every situation.

I've tested it on a friend with a 4090, it draws around 70w-75w full CPU bound and performs around the stock 12900k level.
