Anyone here overclocked their 7800XT? What are your settings?
Use max power slider (+15%) and give it 200-300 Mhz on the clock. Leave ram alone for starters. Then run this tool and try to OC ram also. https://github.com/GpuZelenograd/memtest_vulkan

For 7900XT I set: 3200 MHz GPU / 2664 MHz Memory and ofc +15% power and 1050mV. At 2714 MHz I get errors in memory so it becomes slower even if higher freq.

Hello

I am thinking of using a thermal pad on my 7900xtx nitro+, how thick should do thermal pad be ? is there a sweetspot ?

Thanks, I think I'm pretty much finished with OCing and the results are disapointing hahaha.

Min frequency 500, max frequency 3200, vCore 1100mV (1075mV crashes), VRAM 2566 (going close to 2600 causes the screen to flicker when runing vulkan_memtest).

Setting min frequency to 2700 for ex causes coil whine in 2D, and in cases where there's some limiter it doesn't benefit the performance. The card will boost itself to 2700, 2800 on its own when it can, the undervolt does most of the work, in combination with +15% PPT. In some workloads (GravityMark for ex.) the card will boost to 3100MHz Shader clock.

Curiously, when running MSI Kombustor first test in the dropdown menu with Artifact Scanner, the card will have a couple of artifacts registered in 2h even when underclocked to AMD stock frequencies. Can someone try to replicate?

That must have been the 3 8 Pin version. I cannot get my 7900Xt over 3 GHz. The memory is already turned up so I don't bother to OC it. I guess I should see what happens if I mess with the power limit.

Hello

There are some pretty thick pads on the Memory pads on those cards. You will likely need be a minimum mm for optimal pressure between the card and the heatsink as far as I know those pads are thick enough for most applications as you are replacing Thermal paste which is not very thick.

Finally I'm in the RX7000 club, and do I have to say what an excellent job Sapphire did with the Nitro+ 7900XTX...
The card is everything I expected and even more. Have to compliment not only the overall design of the card (that works great in cooling) but specifically the fans.
Those fans can ramp up to 2500rpm (60+%) and not be annoying at all. You can hear them but its nothing really...
Nice delta between edge and hotspot temps. 19~20C diff at the worst (highest temps). Usually on avg diff is between 13~18C, load depending.

I'm using the secondary BIOS (via trixx) with +15% on drivers which lands TBP at ~401W because I'm limited by the 750W PSU.
Its a great one but I'm keeping it like this for now as the total highest max PowerOut of PSU is on the region of 600W (80% load).
Average total system power usage so far is 450~550+W depending on type of load, game/bench.

Haven't test the card and system enough yet but I already did some tweaking on the GPU.
Highest "GPU Power Maximum" I've seen is up to ~550W after the tweak. Before it, I think I saw a close to 600W value.

1703925467482.png

GPU idles usually in 40~50W region when monitor is on, same power usage while watching moviesYT and some times when doing stuff in windows can avg at 55~60W.
When monitor is off it can go below 10W.
Like this ~9h overnight session

Untitled_38.png

Here is ~1h game play for RedDeadRedemption 2 (max settings) with clocks hitting 3000MHz (shaders) and 3300MHz (FrontEnd).

Untitled_37.png

Much more to come with games and benchmarks. I'm a little swamped with work and everything else is going on this time period.
Happy new year to everyone, and stay healthy!

EDIT:
RGB Leds are shut off within the first mins of powering the system up... :D

Congrats! Sapphire is slowly becoming my favourite brand. Both the Pulse 6500 XT and Pulse 7800 XT that I have are great, and I'm reading similar feedback from other users here. :)

As for your idle power use, what monitor are you using, and what driver version? The idle power on my 7800 XT was similar (roughly 40 W) with a 3440x1440 144 Hz ultrawide, but the latest driver version pushed it all the way down to 15-17 W.

yep... Overclocking is not worth it anymore. more than 50% of the few percent are just from the powerlimit alone.

I don't understand people who overclock modern hardware, to be honest. The CPU/GPU's built-in boost algorithm will always do a much better job than any software slider can. Playing with cooling and/or power limits makes much more sense.

Shown in specs, it’s a 3440x1440 set to 144Hz.

I’m away for a couple of days from PC now but from what I saw the idle power hasn’t improve much after driver update. Maybe 5W on average still around 40-50W.
Not an issue at all for me. My previous MSI GamingX 5700XT was drawing even more than that.
Temps are fine, the Nitro+ has nice cooler that can handle 40-60W without fans. As long as there is some (around the card) air flow.
I do have a 120mm fan (idling at ~800rpm) blowing towards the GPU fans, chipset and 1 NVMe underneath the card.

Overclocking is not what it used to be. I’m just undervolting, setting the desired TBP and let it do its thing. You can’t really fix a static clock on GPUs like we did old days.
Even pushing the minimum clock up won’t stop it from downclocking when it finds it necessary. You just keeping maybe the avg clock higher by a small margin.

Changed win10 power plan from an old Zen2 remnant plan (1usmus) to win balanced plan.
Now TBP is deeping below 10W when monitor is on but only if nothing moves on screen. The second I move the pointer, scroll or watching YT, Netflix, TBP goes up to 45-50W and also same if screen saver is triggered (black screen with digital 3D clock bouncing around slowly.

Contrary to what people tend to suggest, I think the Balanced plan with the power saving slider dragged all the way to "power saving" works best with any system, Ryzen and Radeon included. I'm surprised it affects GPU power consumption as well, and by such a high degree!

10 W idle is awesome! That's similar level to my 7800 XT! :D

As for video playback, there's nothing to do about it, I'm afraid. :( The GPU has to wake up the VRAM and memory controllers for that.

Tested Red Dead Redemption 2 for power efficiency using the built-in benchmark. 4K with everything manually set to the max (no AA). First uncapped, then with 60Hz V-sync on:

4K.jpg
4K60.jpg

Average GPU power consumption was 23% down -- 244 W instead of 318 W.

I also ran the benchmark with maximum AA (MSAA 4x general and reflections) and 8K w/o AA for giggles. These are the averages for every scene:

64-84-107-88-93 4K maxed out, no AA
37-45-54-47-47 4K maxed out + 4x MSAA
28-31-41-34-32 8K maxed out, no AA

RDR2 has horrible stutter, especially in the last scene showing escape after a robbery:

frametimes.jpg

I also found one option that makes no sense at all. This setting alone cut my framerate by 20% in some places, or increased GPU power consumption by 45 W for the same fps:

settings.jpg

Water Physics Quality in the advanced graphics settings does it when its slider is maxed out. The weirdest thing is, it does so even when there is no body of water in sight :kookoo:
All it takes to enjoy higher fps (or lower consumption) is to drop it down a notch, while keeping everything else intact.

64-84-107-88-93 4K maxed out, no AA
37-45-54-47-47 4K maxed out + 4x MSAA
28-31-41-34-32 8K maxed out, no AA
Can't edit the original message anymore. The numbers above are average fps per scene. Guess I didn't make that clear

Noticed that in some games when using Radeon Relive to capture screen (gameplay) there are quite a big performance loss for example in Total War Warhammer II, Three Kingdoms, Fallout 4 and Skyrim (Vsync off). Usually it's somewhere between ~ 8% to 15% fps loss. That's actually very bad result as i remember years ago when i was testing GeForce GPUs there were only 3-4% fps loss on average.

GPU is RX 7800 XT latest drivers Adrenalin 23.12.1 (WHQL Recommended)
So what's going on there? Is this some driver internal bottleneck from amd, bad optimization ect. ? To me it's seems to big a performance drop for just a basic screen capture 2560x1080 50mbps.
Has anyone observed something similar ?

I can't say I have seen the same. Those Games are a bit older. I do Relive with TWWH3 and don't really notice a drop.

Quickly tested World War Z benchmark, saw a 3% drop in performance recording 1440p AV1 both with OBS and ReLive.

Can you try with OBS and see if there's a difference?

Will try OBS later right now it's not instaled. So far the worst results are in older cpu intensive games where gpu utilization is like ~ 60-80%. In some scenarios when Relive is recording gpu utilization is even decreasing more for example from 70% (off) to 60% (on) and fps automatically drops.... Looks like internal bottleneck from Radeon Relive.

3% that's an excellent result 3x0! :rockout: Please test somebody older cpu intensive games where gpu utilization is not 100% and vsync is off! That's for assurance and apple to apple comparison!

My 7900XTX Red devil has been pretty much flawless since Feb 2023.

Congrats on the new card!

Congrats!
I was aiming for the Hell Hound 7900XTX but for some reason, at the time of purchase the Nitro+ was only 40€ more expensive on my local market so the latter was an obvious choice for me.

Nice choice. I wanted a Hellhound myself, but a deal on the Pulse came up which brought its price down to 7900 XT level so it became a no-brainer for me :D

Tried Total War Warhammer II, 1440p DX11 Ultra settings, built in Battle Benchmark was ~133fps with no recording, ~127fps with ReLive recording AV1 which is a ~5% drop in performance.

About the 7900XTX Liquid Devil... has anyone tried a thermal pad on the chip to the backplate? Has it improved cooling? What size pad?
