About the 7900XTX Liquid Devil... has anyone tried a thermal pad on the chip to the backplate? Has it improved cooling? What size pad?
WIsh i did but the gap is so big the thickest pad i had was not thick enough so decided to not bother, cos it probably would only make small difference.
Speaking of which my PTM7950 aplication is almost half year old and still in 60-70c hotspot range at 410 tbp

About the 7900XTX Liquid Devil... has anyone tried a thermal pad on the chip to the backplate? Has it improved cooling? What size pad?
My previous MSI Gaming X 5700XT needed 4.0mm thick pads to make a contact to the back plate.
I like cooling stuff and I did install them (covered entire GPU and VRam area) only to found out that the backplate was indeed hotter than with no pads at all but no significant temp drop on GPU/VRam.
Then I took a bunch of small (5-6mm tall) heatsinks with adhesive pads pre-installed and cover 40% of backplate area.
It finally did make a difference, mostly on VRam but if cost is in concern then it’s not worth it.
I did like it though as expenses for cooling was always a thing for me.

I used Thermalright Valor pads.
I actually replaced all existing thermal pads on that card after 3years of usage with bigger/better ones(not thicker) and I additionally put some here and there like the backplate. Cost was very high, but overall the card was cooler/quieter.

Tried Total War Warhammer II, 1440p DX11 Ultra settings, built in Battle Benchmark was ~133fps with no recording, ~127fps with ReLive recording AV1 which is a ~5% drop in performance.
Total War Warhammer II, 2560x1080, DX11, Ultra Settings, built in Skaven Benchmark

81.1 fps when recording is off
81.1 fps when OBS is on @50mb/s
73.5 fps (10.4% fps loss) when ReLive is on @50mb/s

No mater what resolution choosen there always will be black lines in screen sides or in the buttom that creates blurry screen looks not as sharp text ect. This is hapening only when using AV1 in ReLive or in OBS
and you cannot do anything about it.

For example resolution after recording will be 2560x1082, 2560x1088, 3456x1440 ect shit from amd as always..... I'm really tired on this and starting to think about used RTX 4070 or RTX 4070ti as a replacement.
If you have RDNA 3 gpu for AV1 it's basically useless.

For me it's 135fps without recording and 126fps with recording. Game version is v1.9.2 build 15685... if it matters. Although the results are weird, I'm getting 60+% more FPS at a higher resolution. Game version related?

There are big difference between Skaven and Battle benchmark! All settings should be exactly the same.

Used Skaven benchmark for that post ;) Is it possible X3D CPU is that much of an improvement?

Yup, apart from resolution
That's weird because in battle benchmark i'm a lot closer to you. 15% difference in (Battle) vs 67% difference in (Skaven) that's a tremendous and suspicious difference there!

Yeah, it's more likely to do with X3D CPU than anything else IMO. Here are my HWInfo metrics after running Skaven bench, GPU is slightly OCed. Maybe verify your GPU clocks during benchmark just in case?Screenshot 2024-01-17 031748.jpg

Drivers making me paranoid as if my GPU is dying, seeing glitches in dying light 2 especially last level during cutscenes and unity games seem to have same graphic glitch and crashes,
And then i can do heaven and loop it for 6+ hours no problem no issue or play bf2042 or some other games without issue.
Also had the same artifacting glitch on screen few times that i had on my 6900 XT, making me wonder if AMD is messing with their silicon bug fix again, cos AMD latest tech preview got a huge RT performance boost in AFMF tech preview drivers, feels like they do these tweaks once a year.
The glitches if seen in dying light 2 during cutscenes if seen in videos as well on YouTube so it may be a game issue, but it surely looks like a dying gpu.
Would hate to have to RMA my gpu since im testing PTM7950 on how long it last since thermals are still unchanged from day 1

If you are not into RT, maybe do as me and game using linux. I am fed up with the crap Windows does lately, broken updates, stutters, conflicts.

You have to tinker with certain games to pick better proton version, but other than that I see no performance hit. In CPU department I actually gain perf.

At least dual boot for debug reasons, to have some sanity check.

Switching to Linux for gaming is something I'm willing to try, as soon as I get myself to terms with configuring Steam/Proton on my laptop (as soon as I understand it there, I may do it on my desktop).

My amigo has it on his 1070 Ti since... 2018? Early '19? Still the same temperatures.

I got a question for RX 7900 GRE owners: by how much have you managed to overclock this GPU? How much performance uplift has it provided?

Did that last year and confirmed it was just Windows and AMD driver issue, need install Arch linux again someday

That is not a very high wattage gpu so it likely would not even suffer from pumpout at same rate as high wattage card, my card does 410w tbp at stock on unleashed bios and can be pushed to 470w tbp

Don't overcomplicate. Some mere Pop!_OS, I am using plain Fedora 39 with Kernel 6.7.

Installing Arch is easy tho, i just need to move around some data so i can dual boot it.

Yeah, it's more likely to do with X3D CPU than anything else IMO. Here are my HWInfo metrics after running Skaven bench, GPU is slightly OCed. Maybe verify your GPU clocks during benchmark just in case?View attachment 330051
Well probably yes mine are undervolted to 230w or -10% Power limit, max frequency 2900Mhz @1070mv. In games same or slightly faster than a stock RX 7800 XT Pure. At the end gpu is slightly cooler and significantly quieter due to low custom RPMs. Temps peak at GPU 58C, Hot Spot 75C, Memory Junction 86C.

Re-reading 7800XT-7700XT reviews on TPU, noticed that both 7700XT/7800XT use the same H56G42AS8DX-014 Hynix memory chips, yet 7700XT OCs on TPU reviews don't come close to 7800XT ones.
However, my 7800XT and some other users I've seen, can only run ~2550MHz which is in line with a 7700XT OC. What are the chances of all 7800XT in @W1zzard review being a better binned Hynix chip vs. pure luck? Or is there another factor at play (newer drivers being worse for OC etc.)?

I'd tried to overclock memory at first but there are no real gain from that RX 7800 XT seems to be is not good gpu for memory overclocking. RX 7900 XT was better at memory overclocking where you can see a real performance inprovement....

Very consistent
Start mission no artifacts during cutscenes until the smoke spawns in when skullface appears.
This is depressing.

If anyone has dying light 2 and could play first blood intro quest to these cutscene and record it see if got issues with RT off cos with RT on its less glitchy but still glitchy.

edit: 99% likely everyone has this laser show on 7900 XTX least friend has it as well.

So this bug is only happening in dx11 and dx12 if you put game in dx11 and use dxvk you get no rgb laser show, anyone if asked to test so far managed to reproduce it, even some one that just got new 7900 XTX
This is with dxvk 2.0 async patch
Also playing palworld for 36.3 hours without single crash or driver timeout.

Well once again it is time to see what AMD offers for the low end. Note to use Google search. Newegg are trying pull a fast one. If you use the search on the site it brings up 3 cards for more than this one. One has free shipping and is out of stock and the other 2 have a minimum of $20 more than this one. I look forward to discussing what this card can do.

Gentlemen, I have joined the club. The 6950 XT has been replaced :) Was it necessary? No, but I wanted to. So far I'm very happy with the birthday present to myself, the only tweak I needed to make was the fan curve (since the stock fan curve was INCREDIBLY low and let everything run too hot). Now I get ~130fps in Cyberpunk 2077 and the hotspot never goes above 85C. I'm not sure i'll even worry about undervolting for now, I just want to enjoy the purchase.

So following up from the initial night testing: the card is amazing. It actually boosts to 3Ghz which utterly blows my mind. I thought these cards were meant to boost to ~2.6Ghz based on their specs?
