Do you expect AMD to release 700 series chipsets along with 8000 series CPUs later this year?

I would think that AMD want to clean up in their chipsets. I would have thought the regular 650 and 670 went EoL and E models took over but it seems that AMD keeps making both and demands a premium for the E versions.

No not really. Those are Zen4/4c based APUs
Why would they need new chipsets other than 600series?

I'd expect to see maybe a few new low-mid tier boards with some new or up to date peripheral features, but not new chipsets.

I’m happy with my current MSI (around 470€ with the cashback)
MSI MPG X670E CARBON.jpg

Was interested in the Asus Rog Crosshair but 630€+ :shadedshu:

They will surely release a new lineup with wifi7, more gen5 slots, no cables in front etc at the end of 2024. Like always $$$

I own an actual Asus Proart X670e. It has 4 NVME SSD slots. 2 * PCIe 5.0X4 and 2 PCIe 4.0x4. And it did cost (in Germany) below 500€.

If I had to do it over, I would have got the Carbon instead of the X670E Strix. Of course the board I wanted was the Ace Max but that is just too much money.

Zen 5 and Zen 5 3D is coming this year, current chipset range is a mess and features are lacking

AMD needs Wi-Fi 7, TB4 and 5 / USB 4.x just to name a few things, they simply need to clean up in their chipset naming

Rumours are already talking about AMD 700 series chipsets later this year

No argue there if Zen5 comes this year.
But 8000series is not Zen5 and that was your OP’s question right?

That doesn't make sense at all, as it would force people on a budget to choose between a basic A620 and a B650E, that's a huge price gap. You do know that E boards have two PCH chips, making them more expensive?

Show me.

Meanwhile, here's a rumor showing the opposite.

Tons of links about AMDs upcoming 700 series chipset. Simply Google.

Thanks.
Maybe you should read as well, not just google and paste. Three of them points to the same source, one has no references, although who cares when it's all rumors anyway.
I do because I am going Zen 5 3D when it hits on a new board, hopefully 16C/32T model if all cores gets 3D cache this time.

You act like your tweet is a better source. Obviously AMD will bring out new chipsets when current ones are lacking.

Wi-Fi and USB isn't built into the chipset. So when the refresh comes, I'm sure someone will have it. Using the same PROM21 just means the total PCIe lanes isn't changing.

They are the same, so what is there to clean up? There's only one chipset, the B650, of which two makes the X670. The E models have PCIe 5.0 NVMe support and some other minor improvement for overclocking and what not. A620 is a cut-down B650.

WiFi 7 = add-in card, easy fix.
USB4 = add-in chip, the CPU already have four PCIe lanes for it, ASMedia was late, not telling that story again, but let's just say it had to do with the USB-IF and Intel. (also, it's USB4, not USB 4 or USB 4.x)
Thunderbolt 4 = why bother when USB4 will be better?
What else is missing?

That said, based on the reply I just got from someone in the industry, it looks like there will be a new chipset and new boards, but they're going to be quite late this year.

There will be new boards for sure in my opinion, history has shown it, and I expect the new boards as well as the new chips will make headway on the DDR5 problems as well.

It would not be normal for them not to release a new chipset this year. Everything seems to be coming end of the year into early next year.

Yes? That applies to Intel as well, so not sure what's so funny with the fact that you don't understand how it works.

No. You clearly can't read. You're aware I'm one of the people that write content on the site here, right? I have lived in Taiwan for almost 15 years and worked as a tech journalist for well over that, so I might have a few sources in the industry...

If you're so convinced about that, why did you even start this thread?
Because I want a new board when I buy a 8000 series 3D chip

Or lets see if Arrow Lake will deliver, nothing is set in stone

That's a good thing, as you can upgrade later on, get it?

This is from the $1200 MSI MEG Z790 Godlike Max, the WIFI is on a separate module. You expect AMD boards to be any different?

Just wait until both are launched.

This thread serves no purpose. In the meanwhile you might want to try to read up on how things work. In general.

You don't really know yet, might be 8000 series or 9000 series for Zen 5 Desktop, nothing is official.

You are aware that APUs use G naming right?
