hi guys, below are my specs. My pc is stuttering hard every minute or so and benchmarking in the bottom 20% on UserBenchmark. (I benchmarked multiple times and this was the best it ever was https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/67161985) Now I know people are not fans of this site so i also downloaded cinebench and everything benched fine.

with a 2060 Super.

Also I have 32 gigs of ram, i just took one out for troubleshooting when i took this screenshot

What do??

Well, looking at your specs. You have a top tier CPU, paired with a few generations old, bottom tier GPU and to top it all off. Your running your games on a mechanical hard drive.

So, the stutter could be caused a few things. The slow hard disk drive, since it is not able to provide data to the system as a reasonable rate.

Also, depending on the game, it could be stuttering due to poor performance of the GPU, since it is a few years old now.

The OP has a SSD, maybe the games is installed on it.

The games are installed on the SSD, the HDD is for my videos / movies I have downloaded. I recently upgraded from a i7 - 9700k to my new Ryzen along with a new motherboard and new ram. Regardless though, the freezing is happening outside of the games so I don't think the drives are the problem.

It says your have a single stick of 16GB. With moderns Windows OS and all the apps, that could be a cause. Running out of memory and its going to HDD Temp.

Other thing you could try is go into windows power settings and change it to high performance.

While I like to try the "change hardware and see if Windows adapts if it can" route first, since often times it can these days, what did you do here? Was Windows installed fresh or is this the installation from before?

Is the BIOS up to date?
Fresh install of windows. BIOS version is in the screenshot and I believe it is the most up to date.

As mentioned in the OP, I had one stick in for testing purposes. I have both in now and I'm still having small locks. I have changed windows settings to high performance and I'll update if the locks go away / become less frequent

AMD's cache driver primarily benefits dual CCD X3D cache chips as programs can benefit from favoring frequency or cache depending on their workload. The 7800X3D doesn't have that complexity and by extension doesn't require the driver to get full performance.

True , but it did help me with edge cases ( Snowrunner, Anthem(yea i know) and DiabloII Res ) with some insane stutters. Maybe it would help him

Maybe you fill out your "System Specs" in your profile first. ;) Makes things easier.

What RAM are you using? Ryzen is pretty picky about it. You should if possible only use what is listed on the compatibility list of your mainboard. Also, what PSU are you using? Might not get enough juice. You could also test to run the bench without non crucial devices connected (esp. the HDD). I personally once had random hard stutter and the issue was a faulty Molex connector where the HDD was connected to.

As someone else said, list your exact hardware - what precise memory kit are you using, and at what settings ?

From what i can see in user benchmarks it looks like a gskill 6400 mhz kit optimized for intel - not a ryzen kit.

Interesting. I'm wondering if that's due to the driver itself or to power modifications that come bundled with it.

System specs is filled out. RAM is 2x 16GB Trident Z5 @6400. I did have quite a few problems setting up the RAM so that might be the cause of all of this.
750W PSU and I tried benching the cpu after I removed my gpu, got the following - https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/67162054

The guy at microcenter said this was a ryzen kit when I told him i had a ryzen cpu.

Just did. Havnt seen a stutter in the past 5 minutes so thats good...?

Yes that good. There is no real performance increase form high ram speed on the X3D chips. I hear the 7800X3D prefers 6000 speed.. but I dont have one to confirm.

If you got it from Micro Center.. and it was less than 30 days. Walk back in with a smile. and say I dont want this anymore and I want to exchange it for something else. Then walk your happy ass out with the better set of memory for your chip.

What would you guys recommend? Something that is less than 6000 mhz or something that is exactly 6000 mhz? Or maybe I could underclock my current ones.

I set all my motherboard settings back to auto, and got the following

I dont understand why my MOBO wants to set my ram to 4800mhz

I'd recommend returning your current kit, and get a 6000 cl 30 kit.

This specific kit

6000 MT.. Any kit will do.. lower CL if you can find it.

6000MHz is the "sweet spot" for AM5, so I would get a kit of that. :) A 6000MHz kit works out of the box without tinkering around. Also make sure the kit supports "AMD EXPO".

There are tons of kits out the, pick your poison. But I personally would go for a G.Skill kit, they work exceptionally well on AMD systems. I would go for one of those kits:

F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5

F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5N

Both of them got a very low latency (CL 30) and the price is also great. The chips on them should be the same, just pick what you like wore design wise. Personally  the FLARE's.

Hey all,

I went and got new ram and the problem still persists.

I got the Trident f5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR

First I'd check CPU and GPU temps to ensure nothing is overheating. (HWInfo is great)

Might be a good idea to check event viewer to see if anything correlates to the stuttering.

Then I'd try running MemTest86 to eliminate RAM as a potential variable. It is possible to get 2 bad kits in a row.

Is it only your CPU that's under-performing or is your GPU as well? You can run a well known benchmark and compare scores to people with the same video card to find out.

I ask this because your PSU brand or model is not listed so I assume it's a low end model. While the capacity of 750w is ample if it's a cheap unit the issues you are experiencing can manifest regardless of capacity used.

Check drive temps and health status as well. Might want to try disconnecting the HDD (including the power cable, not just the data) to see if it makes a difference. Could be the SSD as well although that's a bit harder to test given you don't have another SSD.

In addition, sometimes Nvidia GPUs can be picky with the monitor / cable used. My friend had an issue with his 3060 stuttering / displaying artifacts only with a certain display. Thought the card was dead until it worked perfectly fine in my little test station I have. Might be wise to try a different monitor / TV and cable. I put this later on the list though because it's definitely the less likely scenario. Couldn't hurt to see if any USB device might be causing the issue as well, either by unplugging them or swappign them and / or swapping ports.
