We have an important announcement for our players and fans. With an external investor, Relic Entertainment will become an independently-run development studio. This is a huge change for us, but one thing does not change: we want to create amazing experiences for our players. To our fans, we want to assure you we will continue to support our titles, including Company of Heroes 3—we are looking forward to the 1.6 Update in April, loaded with new content and features requested by our community.

We want to thank SEGA, whose support over the years and guidance during this transition have been instrumental to our success. We may be out of the SEGA business, but we remain friends and colleagues. We are excited about this next chapter for Relic, and we hope you will all join us in creating new experiences for our fans worldwide.

Relic makes killer games. This seems like a major blow to SEGA. Maybe that's just my personal perspective.

To be entirely fair, SEGA has mismanaged a lot of their games on the console/PC side. They're still doing pretty well on the arcade side, but they haven't really capitalized on their vast catalogue of past SEGA games and studios under them to push more games out to console and PC.

They could really give Nintendo a run for their money if their reactivated some of their legacy IP other than just "lolsoniclol" not that Sonic isnt an iconic IP but there is more to Sega than Sonic.

Good. Sega ruined Company of Heroes by cutting their budget and forcing a launch.

Good for them. Best not to suffer from the same poor leadership that has hurt Creative Assembly.

Good riddance. The only question why it took so long? I am 500% sure this is more hit to the SEGA, than to Relic themselves. Sega was the sole reason for all the flops that ended up under number 3, like DOW III, and COH3, and all the reputation and Relic's brand name being flushed to sewers. SEGA been holding them hostages for too long. Even with corrupt scemes and asshead top management of THQ , Relic made more progress, and memorable games that for the decade of being under SEGA control. This speaks volumes. Now SEGA can go and copypaste their Sonichammer Total War.
But truth is, all these years have been complete cluster**ck, so at this point it's not clear, where one's area of responsibility begin, whose fault/incompetence it was.
Moving to Microsoft?
The worst decision ever. Microsoft already butchered the studios they bought recently. Do you really want that demise to Relic? MS is as incompetent as the Activision/Blizzard and Bethesda. They deserve each other.

I guess Relic would be better to try solo for at least some time, or in worst case try the luck with THQ (Embracer) for the second time. But given how fast the later throw away the company assets, I doubt they would accept Relic.

You guys are spot on. Relic singlehendedly made so many "relics" of games, that being played two decades later. And SEGA did what? Some primitive arcade games? The Relics's made assets bing used in at least couple dozens of mods for various games. And sega on the other hand, is akin to their another atrocious company, that lost everything due to their utter mismanagement, which is Atari.
Good. Sega ruined Company of Heroes by cutting their budget and forcing a launch.
Not only ruined. They sell the bugged games, up to this day and didn't let Relic to fix the blatant issues, throwing all the power on own in-house projects. And they are the culprit, why the modders still can't get the source code/permission, or any help to fix the persistent performance issues, and bugs, that riddle the DOW and COH series, and SM.
With all the respect to Relic, but if they want to clean their name from that filth they got, first thing they need to do is to fix the communication issues with gaming comunities, and adress the existing game issues with the ever belated patches, and fixes, for all the DOW and COH games. Or at least give the source code so the modders would fix the sh*t themselves.
The FlatOut Ultimate carnage recently got treatment, and had the GFWL removed, and migrated to Steam (after Bugbear for decade was publicaly refusing to make it happen). Nothing stops Relic to do the same, and put some care in their own renowned games.
