Good results, but thaught they would be better to be honest. I always have had an ATI card, but the nVidia offerings are looking better, ATI time to up your game.

Come on ATI! Kick 8800GT BUTT! :nutkick: :nutkick: :nutkick:

Hopefully newer catalyst drivers will once more allow the ATI 3870 speed up and overcome the 8800GT. I want to upgrade to an ATI part. :toast:

It claims the card should be cheaper than the 8800gt, and mentions nothing of overclockability or a number of games. With some driver enhancements or at a $200 or so price point it could be a very promising card, especially given that it has a somewhat better featureset.

Well, sure there's a small difference to the 8800 GT, but not all that huge to me. Damn, maybe I should cancel my order... :p

NVIDIA released 8800GT early to get market hold, but there aren't any cars available in any store here. Those little that came were sold instantly. If ATI sticks this out in volume, I'm sure many will go and get one.

the 8800GT drivers suck atm give them time to release a new one just befor crysis is out!!!

Yeah, I'd prefer to see a review when the launch 7.11 Catalysts are released. Who knows what that will bring.

I guess maybe I'm an idiot, but I thought that the 3870's were supposed to be the next-gen top of the line cards like the upcoming 9800GTX's. Because of that, this was a pretty big disappointment for me.

never buying an nvidia product again, after they cheated the benchmarking system by lowering image quality for higher frames to beat ATI products.

Nope, it's rumored to be R680 that is dual R670 (and this is R670 core). R700 is the next-gen next year card. Think of dual R670 as a bandage to get next high end card out, like 7900GX2 and 7950GX2 were.

"The Radeon HD 3800 series will also have one more variant, the Radeon HD 3870 X2 to be released in February 2008, featuring two RV670 cores, maximum 1024 MiB GDDR3 or GDDR4, targeting the enthusiast market, replacing the Radeon HD 2900 XT."

This is a die cut low cost performance model that performs well due to lower heat output & higher clocks for us with not so deep pockets :)

Edit

OnBoard beat me to the reply :)

Dont get me wrong, the card looks amazing, with good results, low poer comsumption, but i was expecting more to be honest. I have a X1950XTX and i think its a great card, but for a HD3870 was expecting a little more bang! On a previous forum on TPU there was only 4 FPS between the HD 38XX and a HD26XX card on a benchie!

More benchies will answer all questions..... hopefully!

If its priced well, it should be very promising :).

It holds its own remarkably well edging out in one Benchmark only. Not too bad of a showing. If the price is right, I may forgo the massive price drops of Sapphires cards and grab one of these puppies.

That REALLY not much of a review or test...

They give you the instant fps coming into the bench on crysis... Well how about run it through 5 times and give us the average... Lazy idiots..

Beyond that... Okay 3dmark06, we have already proven that in close quarters to be near useless..

i rather a 3860 cause i dont need a new PSU.

Hell, if it's cheaper than an 8800GT, it's a damn good deal, considering it's pretty close performance-wise.

From 3Dmark06 and Crysis, it looks like nVidia 8800GT is better than HD3870. However, there is one thing we need to tell you

We found ATi HD3870 is actually has better picture process while Crysis benching.

Specially the light refraction from water, HD3870 is very smooth but 8800GT is not. It is around frame 500 to 1000.

If you have chance, compare it. You will know what are we talking about.

wow!:shadedshu

go ati!!!!!! quad x-fire will be the same price as one gtx ultra.

With no room for other cards, and HUGE power supplie*S*

Yes it would rock stomp a set of ultra's into the dirt... But at some serious cost.

Honestly, I don't think you would need that much bigger of a powersupply that the 2900XT requires. The cards are 55nm and I'm sure they use a lot less power than even the 2600's. Or at least, that's what I would think.

NO!

2600's don't even require a power plug....

My friend is running a 2600xt GDDR4 overclocked with a overclocked e6420 4x512mb ddr2 2 hard drives and a optical drive on 16amps 12volt, psu is being pushed but no noise, no problems, and doesn't get *hot*.
