Possible Sony PlayStation 5 Pro Sketch Surfaces

Probably not matching DLSS but their goal was to beat FSR quality

It will likely use FSR 3. If the rumors about RDNA 4 adding a matrix multiplication unit are true (only took AMD over 6 full years), probably XeSS style image reconstruction techniques.

PS5's main problems are its software not hardware (well hardware issues with dodgy expensive controllers that have short warranty), not sure what Sony think the purpose of this pro console is.

Money! Plenty of "gamers" excited for the next PlayStation because that's all they've ever known and all they've ever cared to know.

PS5 Pro uses PSSR, which is not FSR. In-house upscaling method that relies on RAM to function, hence why PS5 Pro has slightly more RAM.

All of which are derived from FSR, since FSR is open source. Sony just likes to look like they're innovative, truth to be told, they're corporate incarnate these days.

I like one of the design concepts running around of the top panel sections above the ruffles/ridges being black, while the large bottom panels are white. If those ruffles/ridges are also vents for additional cooling, that would be nice too, with the hope that they use more/quieter fans behind them.

Yet we keep hearing they dont profit from the console sales.

I believe the PS5 has been profitable from the first unit built, the whole strategy of taking a loss on consoles and then making it up with royalties from software sales nearly bankrupted them in the past - plus with the rise of tiered subscription services such as Game Pass and PS Plus obviously reducing sales numbers (because consoles have largely stuck to an obsolete business model - the simple fact that there are still physical disc copies that serve as nothing but an authorization key because the game within them is obsolete and unplayable due to DRM locks/enforced data and system software updates or the fact it's simply missing a ton of game data speaks volumes), that business model is no longer viable.

Nowadays they make the bulk of money with the console itself and scamming console gamers $15 a month so they can play online.

No sarcastic question, but are there any new good quality games out there worth investing in a new PS??
Or even a new video card for that matter?

Considering you currently have an RTX 3080, no, none that your card can't already run masterfully well, at least up until 1440p resolution.

I agree they must be making a profit on them, it is only logical conclusion, otherwise the pro would make no sense.

PSSR is in-house tech built by Sony, has nothing to do with FSR. They said this officially.

I just read on it, hilarious. Such grand claims, it's only a shame I've been around long enough to remember it isn't the first time Sony has these delusions of grandeur

The day a console does 120 fps may come, but today is not that day - and the PS5 Pro is not gonna do anything to change that reality (or the hilariously poor quality titles they're releasing lately).

If you play 1080p, even 1440p in a few games, you don't even need the pro console to do it today ;)

Truthfully a lot of games would be able to do that if developers just released an update to unlock the frame rate to allow it but they just won't because there's no money on it. The greatest benefit of the pro console will probably be that there will be money to be made on updating the game to get the "optimized for ps5 pro" sticker and that will benefit both those who have the better console and those who keep the regular one.

Wondering if the marriage between Nvidia and Sony will ever return again. Maybe in the Ps6 who knows. Ps4 and Ps5 is impressive in graphics close up but distance graphics still the PS3 was king. Even today when I look at programmers that knew how to take full advantage of the PS3 cell and Nvidia RSX those games seem to look better than the newer console ones.
