Noctua today introduced its eagerly anticipated next-generation 140 mm fan. Succeeding the award-winning NF-A14 and building on the technological innovations of the ground-breaking NF-A12x25, the NF-A14x25 G2 is Noctua's new square-frame 140 mm flagship model: Made from Sterrox LCP, its highly optimised Progressive-Bend impeller with winglets, Flow Acceleration Channels and Centrifugal Turbulator hub combined with a tip-clearance of only 0.7 mm allow the NF-A14x25 G2 to significantly improve its predecessor's renowned quiet cooling performance.

"After almost a decade of development work, we're proud of the substantial performance uplift that we have managed to achieve with this fan", says Roland Mossig (Noctua CEO). "The NF-A14x25 G2 is easily our most advanced fan today, and we're confident that the massive advances in performance-to-noise efficiency will be of great value to our customers."

Like the NF-A14 and NF-A12x25, the new NF-A14x25 G2 is a true all-rounder that yields superb results in all types of usage, regardless of whether it's in low-impedance, airflow-oriented applications such as case cooling, or high-impedance, static pressure demanding scenarios such as on heatsinks and water cooling radiators. For application-specific optimisation, the NF-A14x25 G2 comes with an NA-AVG2-LR anti-vibration gasket pre-installed to create a tighter seal on radiators. Additionally, its AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) frame can be combined with the optional NA-IS1-14 inlet spacer, which can help to achieve superior suction acoustics and flow rates in challenging intake configurations.

The NF-A14x25 G2's new ultra-low-loss etaPERF motor with Smooth Commutation Drive 2 technology doesn't only provide unprecedented energy efficiency and running smoothness, but thanks to the new SupraTorque feature, it can also leverage extra torque headroom to keep the fan at its desired speed when working against back pressure, thereby ensuring even better performance on heatsinks and radiators.

The fan is available in a standard PWM version with 1500rpm maximum speed, an ultra-quiet LS-PWM version with up to 800rpm as well as in an Sx2-PP set that contains two fans that are offset in speed by +/- ~25rpm. This speed offset can be beneficial in push-pull operation as well as in situations where two or more fans are operating side by side, such as in case cooling applications or on 280 mm water cooling radiators, in order to avoid periodic humming or other undesired acoustic interaction phenomena.

Topped off with Noctua's reference-class SSO2 bearing, a rich bundle of accessories and 6-year manufacturer's warranty, the NF-A14x25 G2 is a premium-quality product through and through. Its superior performance, comprehensive feature set, cutting-edge construction and state-of-the-art materials set a new standard within Noctua's portfolio and make it an elite choice for the most discerning demands.

For more information, visit the product pages of the NF-A14x25 G2 PWM, NF-A14x25 G2 PWM Sx2-PP, and NF-A14x25 G2 LS-PWM.

The manufacturer's suggested retail prices are as follows:
  • NF-A14x25 G2 PWM: EUR 39.90 / USD 39.90
  • NF-A14x25 G2 PWM Sx2-PP: EUR 76.90 / USD 76.90
  • NF-A14x25 G2 LS-PWM: EUR 39.90 / USD 39.90

A toast to those of us no longer on this plane of existence who passed on in the time it took Noctua to make a 3% better fan.
I am being facetious, sure, but holy hell, a decade-ish to develop A FAN. I know that it isn’t easy, but, y’know, cutting edge chip architectures take less time.
Another 3-4 years before they figure out the whole “not brown” thing now, I guess.

There is A LOT more money in cutting edge chip and A LOT more people working on it. There is probably 5 people working on developing new fans at Noctua.

@Gungar
Granted, sure, it’s just that their perfectionism doesn’t seem to… really do much? They spend the same decade-ish making the D15 G2, its a gorgeous piece of kit, it’s over-engineered to hell and back, it’s… barely 3% better than a cooler a fourth or a fifth of the price. Cool?

But sure, I expect the fans to actually be significantly more of an uplift that the G2 - the A14 is long in the tooth and the 140mm fan market isn’t really teeming with great options. Hell, most of the improvements of the G2 WERE from said fan. Although 40 bucks for a single fan is very much a “what the actual f*ck” price.

It seems that Noctua's initial success with their first generation products may have been somewhat accidental. They appear to have lost their way in terms of developing and improving their products, while brands like DeepCool and Thermalright are consistently producing high-quality and more affordable products. Noctua was already a premium brand, but now it seems even more premium, with a loss in performance value.

How spoiled and out of the real world do you have to be to pay 80 bucks for a pair of turd-coloured pc fans?

Let's just say that because it is much more simple than a cutting edge chip, there are far less corners to cut, less possibility to pull a miracle. Chips mostly rely on changing software and the advancement of manufacturing process to achieve it's miracles.

You want miracle? Make the existing 25mm fan 30mm, there is the miracle, better performance almost zero R&D and you have probably the best 140mm fan on the market for the next 5 years

Amen to that, finally someone sane...

Waiting to see proper reviews of top LCP fans, than I will equip my rig with 4 of them.
Stock fans are nice, but they will not last for long and noise\pref wise I want more.

Are you mad every time you're on the road and see people driving something other than a gray Camry?

Still beige and brown, the signature colours of an early '90s PC with peeling paint to expose the rust.

I'm sorry, but every year that passes makes this colourscheme worse. It is not "fine wine", it's just more and more out of place as the industry leaves it behind.

I don't care if it's a good fan, I'm not having Noctuas "cream and faeces" as an obnoxious eyesore in my black PC.

@Chrispy_
B-but don’t you know that they have to spend years now to create a fully new LCP type so that it can be black.
No, but really, I appreciate Noctuas commitment to absolute overkill engineering, but it’s no longer seems to be worth it in terms of performance results and definitely pricing.

They say the black version is coming soon. q1 2025
Brother, at this point they had so many delays with their products that I don’t really care what their roadmap says until the actual physical SKU is out.

Because there is only so much you can do with traditional heatpipes. The fact they managed to squeeze more out of it is an achievement.

Dude, they have Black fans for over 10 years now. Which rock are you living under?

Has a very positive review.

Basically only beaten by a single fan which is thicker and has QC issues.

Finally the A14 G2

What is that even supposed to mean? Because Camrys are rare like Noctuas colour-scheme?

My point is, that they look inarguably awful and Noctua is artificially further limiting their (due to high price) small customer base for no reason other than sticking to a Brand-id that they already went loose on with going black in the past.

Small?

Noctua are incredibly popular. Sorted by rating.

@dgianstefani
How is sorting by rating indicative of a large customer base? I am not saying that Noctuas aren’t popular amongst DIY enthusiasts - they are, but the “rating” is irrelevant. I am very confident that, say, Arctic sells far more fans. To continue with a car analogy - I am sure that the 911 will have a higher “rating” on a car enthusiast site than, I dunno, Kia Optima. I don’t think anyone will unironically argue that it has a larger customer base though.

tl:dr Noctua is premium goods and those are inherently more exclusive than mainstream and budget offerings.

Popular amongst enthousiasts (for whatever reason) ? Yes
Widely adopted? Barely

There are shit-tier corsair fans with more 5 star reviews on pcpartpicker than the no.1 on your screenshot

The black Chromax fans that cost EVEN MORE, and only exist in some product lines and not others, and are rarely launched at the same time?
Yes. I'm aware of that.

Are you aware that this particular press release is for yet another line of fans that doesn't (yet) have any black Chromax variants?

80 cents... "EVEN MORE"...

I'm fine with waiting ten years heh, odds are that the ones you bought 10 years ago are still running perfectly, I know mine are.

80 cents... "EVEN MORE"...
That's now, after nobody was willing to pay extra for black fans, plus some regional variance, no doubt.

The MSRP of those fans was $10 higher than the poo/beige one at launch and it's still more expensive in many markets, including the US and UK, though not by as much as the original MSRP differences were.

Either way, it doesn't matter for the NF-A14x25 as those aren't available in black yet, something you're seemingly oblivious to in this whole discussion so far.
