New 512MB 8800 GTS Pictured

definitely getting one, gonna give my old one to my girlfriend.

I think thats a rubber mat its on.

Hmm...its either I buy the 8800GT for $249.99 at BB and use my 12% coupon to make it even cheaper...or I wait for the 8800GTS...decisions...or maybe buy an eVGA 8800GT and step up to this...

I think you should wait for the gts version ;P Im going to get this one to tie me over until one with a bit more video ram hits the market.. Im debating a 8800gtx atm but I cant find one for a good enough price.

Dec.3rd is only 2 weeks away!

Its official release date is said to be December 3rd, with a price tag somewhere between $299 and $349.

So in other words, they will ship 10 or 15 on that date, and if you can find one,ha ha, any retailer that has one or two will be selling them for $369 to $400. :twitch:

It's physically the same board as 8800GT, the only difference is the amount of enabled SPs.

Seems to me they are playing intel, flooding the market with all kinds of cards, confusing the consumers and just kicking the hell out of ATI! <laugh> Not saying INtel does all those things, just one or two.

this card will crush 8800 ultra :rockout:

not in high resolution it wont :P I was really hoping they would keep the 640mb part of the gts.. I hope/wish they will come out with a 1gb model soon after.

this card will stil lose to the GTX and prob the old gts in higher resolution when taxing the memory.. Crysis maxed @ 1680x1050 and above uses more than 512mb memory, so if you like having your graphics maxed (texture elc) and game at theses higher resolutions you'll want more memory to do so... well lets all hope they come out with a 1gb model.. Im sure they will.. and it will fair well @ higher resolution. :)

the most i ever do is 1280x1024 on my 19" LCD

Chewy, do not forget, that the reason the GT does well at higher resolutions, given that it only has 512mb, is because it's texture fill rate is double that of a GTX. I believe this is a benefit of the G92 architecture and therefor the G92 GTS will do the same, and maybe even at a faster rate.

There's also the consideration that Vista doesn't differentiate between the VRAM and system RAM.

@largon

Yes, more SP, and a higher native shader clock. We're looking at 208,000 or so shader processes per second. The GT has 168,000 and the Ultra 192,000; for games like Crysis, that's a huge deal.

Care to provide any evidence for this? I'm not saying it's wrong, but it's a very subjective statement if you can't back it up.

Everyone is saying the new GTS should keep up with the GTX and "maybe" the Ultra. My GT and many other owners' outperform GTX's at stock when overclocked, so if were going to allow people to speculate the new GTS is on par with the GTX, I'm comfortable saying the the GT won't be far behind at all. I'd even guess the GT while overclocked will outperform the new GTS at stock...so I'm fine with that. If I'm wrong thats fine, but I doubt the GTS will dominate.

^^ when you crank the resolution up though the gtx will still jump ahead of the Nv pack.

Newconroer said thats prob why thier not releasing a 1gb model.. because it will dominate the gtx/ultra in higher resolutions making those cards very hard to sell.. its like buying a 1900gt today for around $200 when you can get something better. makes it EOL. (end of life).

People aren't saying it will keep up, they're saying it will flat out beat it..
The GTX will only have saving grace at 1900 resolution(or higher), IF that.

So what that an OC GT outperforms a stock GTX? You know what I would have said next, right?

The new GTS is not on par, it's simply better.

And again, whats with the comparison of stock vs OC? The GT will never match the GTS, even when overclocked, just like the GT will never match an Ultra when overclocked, the architecture is different. Overclocking does not unlock vertex pipelines and shader units...

Anyways, we'll find out within several weeks.

In the meantime, let's just be glad that Nvidia released at least some cards, rather than making us wait another six months. It's better than us sitting around trying to downplay the new card(s), because we feel silly that we went raving mad and ran out and bought a card (GT), without waiting to see what was around the corner.

That's pure sex, right there. Pure sex. Mmm. Ahh yeah.

Wait...what happens to the 112 SP GTS 640 then?

We even have a member of TPU that took a screenshot of one with GPUz.

Yet I have not found them for sale anywhere....hmm.
