GPD's 6-inch Win 4 gaming handheld has been updated with AMD's latest Strix Point offering, less than a year after the recent Hawk Point upgrade. Potential customers now have the option to splurge on a system with the Ryzen AI 9 370 HX APU paired with 32 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 memory and up to 2 TB of solid-state storage.

For those out of the AMD loop, here is a quick refresher on the Ryzen AI 9 370 HX - 12 cores (8x Zen 5c + 4x Zen 5), Radeon 890M iGPU with 16 RDNA 3.5 CUs, and a 35 W TDP as configured by GPD. According to GPD's claims, the Strix Point update allows the system to perform significantly better, even edging ahead of a 45 W RTX 2050 Mobile in synthetic benchmarks.

Other details of the system include the aforementioned 6-inch FHD, 60 Hz, glossy display that slides out to reveal a QWERTY keyboard, an OCuLink port for fast eGPU connections, a USB4 port, a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, a microSD slot, and a 45.6 Wh battery. The product is available on Indiegogo for an eye-watering price of 'just' $1,172. The outgoing variant with the Ryzen 7 8840U went for around $850, demonstrating the notable increase in prices for Strix Point-equipped products.

The only real disadvantage of the GPD Win 4 form factor is that 60Hz display. Unfortunately I don’t know any OEMs who make a 120+ Hz 6” panel that is also landscape-oriented and has VRR. At least this one is still natively landscape.

It’s too expensive because they’re using the high end laptop APU for it - and also 7500 RAM, I’m not sure this is the best option for it as it needs to feed 1024 shaders this time. The display is underwhelming in any case, only 60Hz, not OLED, no FreeSync (?). I wouldn’t buy this. The keyboard is the only nice thing about it, or let’s say special. The display is also a bit small.

Why does it look so much like a PSP, does sony not have a patent on their design?

Wait until these come in proper handhelds. They could be a serious mic drop.

It is a Chinese company patents mean nothing.

Shame it doesn't function as a 5G phone also, that might make the price acceptable.
