While abit's IX38 QuadGT has only been recently introduced to the market, the company has now unveiled its IX48-MAX motherboard based on the soon to be announced Intel X48 high-end chipset. The X48 comes with official support for upcoming (Yorkfield-based) 1600MHz front side bus processors and provides many advanced overclocking features. The IX48-MAX will be a DDR3-1600 supporting motherboard with two PCI Express 2.0 16X slots, ICH9R Southbridge, and support for XMP memory.

i bet it says ix38 max under that sticker
 
I bet this nortbridge heatsink cools better than stock Intel alu brick.

Its nice to see what looks like a digital phase voltage regulator design on there.
 
So now there is x48, what happened to P35 and x38 xD Is my P965 board really 3 generations old, or is Intel just too eager to come up with new processors that don't work with old chipsets :)

I was hoping that moving to S775 would mean no motherboard upgrade needed when getting a new prosessor, but I bet that it won't be long until there is no 1066 FSB prosessors left :/

Edit: and by the looks of the NB cooler, it's running hotter than my prosessor on stock!

x48 IS x38!!! does nobody listen to me?
 
atleast this abit board looks a lot better then the 770 one, that one was like...
 
x48 officailly supports 1600fsb, if u put ina fsb 1600 proc on a x38 u have to oc it to stock speed

WRONG. there is NO difference between x48 and x38 architectually or software(ually?), the x48 is a handpicked x38, expected to overclock slightly further. there IS a difference between the 2900xt and pro, they use different bios'es, have different clock speeds, and the components used to build the pro are generally of lower quality therefore causing more heat and worse overclocks.

both support 1600 fsb, it is up to the board manufacturers to decide whether or not to include this support in bios.

2900pros are 2900xt's that failed speed tests and were therefore flashed to lower speeds and rebranded.

X38 is to x48 as 2900pro is to 2900xt
1600fsb support is to higher clock speeds - both things can be changed via the bios.

2900pro's are cheaply manufactured 2900xt's using cheaper components.

I do I do :) (happy now :p) So P35 is ~100€, X38 is ~200€, is X48 going to be 300€?!

a) they need to make less chipsets (or rename them less)
b) lower P35 and X38 prices greatly (and would that make my P965 a budget board then :( payed top$ for this..)
c) make chipsets with lower nm=cooler=less copperheatpipethingies=cheaper

video cards aren't my field anyway so yeah
 
what a huge heat slash fan for northbridge or was it south
lol, you cant put a big cooler on cpu! :(
 
No more on-board Floppy support:(

IDE and PCI will be the next to go.

I'm sure they'll make PCI/PCIE slot cards to support the older tech (if it's not already out there now).
