NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Founders Edition

The design was looking pretty nice with what seemed like dual flow through until I saw this

That fake heatsink on top of the backplate just for looks :shadedshu:
At least it has the blower part of 3090, but it just leaves a bad taste seing design decisions that serve form over function.

People are willing to pay for it.
I'll never understand why with 12gb of vram. This was already a limitation on previous generations, but nvidia continues to push outdated specs because consumers are willing to eat it up.

So what's the point in the separate PCB with a PCIe slot? Unlike in 5080 and 5090 the main PCB goes all the way to the display outputs. Useless complications...
Keeping the design clean, even on a part that no one can see... it's very dumb! They could have used the savings on, i don't know, more vram that would be actually useful!

Nvidia should just sell off there Graphics side of their company. I mean totally sell it off. IF nvidia wants to focus on A.I. then do so. Sell off the graphics side of the company so maybe we can get some good video cards again.
You do know it's basically the same products right!? They're not like Xilinx or Altera or whoever else doing neural accelerators with fpga's or whatever, they're just repurposing their gpu stuff for machine learning operations because turns out parallel processing of pixels is similar enough to parallel processing inference models.

Nvidia’s gaming division share of its total revenue is minuscule
15% to 20% of their revenue is far from miniscule

Call it a 5060 nvidia and you're on to something, otherwise don't get up.
And then later a 5060 Ti with the full chip.

The chip has a 192-bit memory bus, so it's either 12GB or 24GB and knowing how Nvidia don't give us VRAM in the lower segment, the latter not going to happen.

I generally upgrade every other generation, and for nearly a decade I was upgrading to the 'wrong' gen. But I finally won (ignoring the protestations of my wallet), thanks nvidia.

Again, voicing displeasure at a corporations' actions is not "toxic". This isn't reddit, we're allowed to disagree with the message here. Their consumer division is still a multi billion dollar industry. It's 1/3rd the size of ALL of nvidia's datacenter sales, not just AI. See, corporations can actually focus on more then just 1 market at a time.

No it isn't (1/3). It's nowhere close.

Literally, Nvidia's Q4 earnings report posted a week ago. This covers the holiday season.

Gaming and desktop AI compute : $2.5B
Data Center : $35.6B

At most it is 7% of their revenue. But within that 7% there is also workstation class AI (for developers / research), so it's not even 7%.

Realistically, we're probably looking at gaming being < 5% of Nvidia's revenue. And it undoubtedly has much lower margins, so it's probably looked at as a relic that drags down an important stat for investors (profit margin).

Damn, barely faster than the 4070 super and in many cases even slower. Not to mention coming in with only 12GB of vram and a likely real price of $650 or more!

this feels like the 4060 8gb that alot of people didnt fancy....
You mean the card that now sits at the top of GPU list in Steam Hardware Survey? :)

Damn the FE isnt a dual blowthrought design like 5080 and 5090 are? Those temps/noise levels are disappointing

Look at that tiny xx50 die

Thanks for the review, like always. These couple days must be really busy and I'm really looking forward to what you are preparing for us w1z.

About 5070, well I tried to find a single positive thing specifically about this card but I couldn't. Then I checked Conclusion page but I couldnt even one there neither... That's about it.

Also to add, I don't think the conclusion is accurate. Been able to get 5080 in the UK for 1200 ish and they're available right now. Despite really low supply.

Telling us as supply improves over the summer, prices probably collapse.

Not just for looks. That heatsink is connected to VRM, no?

With a 10% OC and DLSS4 this could have become the new mainstream 4K card, and I'm sure it will sell out quickly. But the lack of Vmem means it will hit the wall sooner as games aren't getting smaller and Vmem requirements aren't going down.

Tom's was able to find positives as they gave it a 4/5.

Why did they use a complicated 5090/5080 card design if it doesn't have airflow through both fans? We end up with high temperatures and noise. The most stupid design in the 50-series FE...

So, roughly 5-10% faster than a 3080Ti/3090......usually the xx70 model for the next gen (which would have been the 4070) meets or beats the xx90 model from the previous gen (which would have been the 3090). Sad the 4070 couldn't and even more sad that the 5070 barely outperforms the 3090.

I'm mostly curious about what AMD actually brings to the table with the 9070/XT cards.

loses to 4070 Super with Path Tracing while drawing more power ........ seriously, what the actual funk is that supposed to be ?

It's Nvidia finally completing their plan of making the 70 class card a 60 class one....

The sad thing is this will likely still sell really well.

The backplate is but i'd be surprised if the fins slapped on top are even made of metal or just plastic.
It looks like a single piece of metal...

Awards will be added after the cards go on sale, once we know more about pricing and the supply situation.

It felt really wrong to give good reviews and rewards to non-existent cards at fake MSRPs before. Thank you for taking these into account!

(terrible conspiracy theory offered as a joke: ) I bet they just wanted the volume discount on those connectors they're using for the PCIe adaptor cards. If they only put them on 5090's, they'd be really expensive as they only made 73 of those cards and maybe 125 5080s. Adding in the 5070 cards they plan to make over the next year or two (only 13 made so far) and they might get the connector price down.

(again...joke...as are the numbers I guessed at for how many FE cards have been produced so far...thought it might not be that far off lol)

I honestly don't think it's that bad when you compare it to its direct replacement, the 4070 (non super / non Ti).

It's basically 20-25% faster. The problem is the actual price, vs the MSRP. If this card were actually $550, it would be worthwhile IMO.

But it's not going to be that price, at least not for another year IMO. I suspect the AMD 9070 is targeted directly in competition to the 5070, same price, probably similar performance. But if the anecdotal reports are true, the AMD will have far more supply, so has a better chance of approaching its MSRP.
