Sunsets are tricky. They're actually bland when there are no clouds (plus, you get a few minutes to take the shot, so your tripod better be in place ahead of time). You need a lot of clouds to get one of those shots that awe everyone. Look for a cloudier day, come back to this spot and take the shot again. It will look way better.
That's a good point. I actually hand held that shot. Tomorrow should have some clouds. I got a great lizard picture. I’ll upload it when I have a better connection.

Edit: Straight from the camera with a crop. Might clean it up later. Doing all of this off my phone.

That's not a great lizard, that's a small lizard :P

Trip to Inverness last weekend. Saw a Golden eagle - the first wild one I've ever seen (for certain) in this country. It was on the marsh/sands at Culbin Forest, east of the city. When it took to the skies (being chased by gulls and crows), it flew closer.

Birds in flight look stranded with a plain (grey) sky behind them. These are post-processed RAW images.

Thought I'd add a straight-from-camera jpeg. Too far away to process, but this is the 'enforced' crow escort. I love the wings in sync.

I went for a walk, accidently set the camera to 1/400 instead of 1/2000, then I pressed the button. Let's fly!

I usually shoot in aperture priority mode, let the camera figure out the exposure.

I don't particularly like aperture priority, at least on my Canon. I almost always leave it in flexible priority mode so I can set what I want, then let the camera adjust everything else. More often than not, I'm setting the aperture and shutter speed, then letting exposure be controlled via auto ISO. I feel that most of the time automatic for shutter speed will try to get away with shutter speeds far slower than I would like. Personally I don't like going lower than 1 over the focal length. So in this case, 1/400s at 400mm is about as slow as I would like to go. My preference is to have a faster shutter speed even if that means higher ISO noise because I personally feel that a sharp image with noise is far better than a blurry image with less noise. This was one rare case where 1/400s was acceptable for the most part. It was just fast enough to stop the foreground Tree Swallow, but still convey the motion of the background Tree Swallow already in flight. If I were at 1/2000s, that effect probably would have been lost. If it were any slower though, the foreground bird would probably be blurry.

Somehow a frog found its way onto the railing on the porch entering my residence. Here are some comparison pictures.

That frog was sharper sitting for the iPhone :D

One of the few times that the smaller sensor probably helped with DoF. I don't particularly like the entire frog being in focus to be honest. I really need to get my hands on another RF body to do some testing with. I think that my RP has a soft sensor in general as it's a pretty old coming from the 6D Mark 2.

Unrelated pics. First is a swan and a Moorhen(?) having a too close to chick encounter in Devilla Forest, near Kincardine.

The nest three are from Jupiter Art Gardens, just west of Edinburgh. Not spooky at all.

The nice thing is, the little girls are playing 'hide and seek.' Maybe.

I remember seeing these black birds with the white "mask" when I was in Scotland.

And the little girl looks like a younger version of Sadako ... a bit spooky the last photo

I'm crap at photo composition, but for that, I wanted the shadow to reach out to the viewer. She can only walk in shadow... Stay in the light, whatever you do.
