Minisforum is working on a new MoDT (Mobile on Desktop) motherboard lineup featuring mobile versions of AMD Ryzen processors, one of them being the F1FGM model. The motherboard came in a compact microATX form factor built around the AMD X870M chipset and is equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX processor rather than traditional socket-type processors. This CPU has a boost clock of up to 5.4 GHz and is based on the Zen 5 architecture offering 16 cores, 32 threads, and 64 MB of L3 cache. Interestingly, even if this processor is rated at 55 W by default, in this particular Minisforum implementation it can be pushed up to a whopping 160 W. To efficiently dissipate the substantial 160 W thermal output and considering that mobile CPUs don't have an IHS, the motherboard comes equipped with a pre-installed vapor chamber heat spreader. The VRM features a solid design with 13-phase 60 A SPS DrMOS. Minisforum has also included large heatsinks across the VRMs, M.2 Slots and PCH.

For expansion, the Minisforum F1FGM motherboard offers one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot and one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot. Storage interfaces include one PCIe 5.0 compatible M.2 slot, three additional M.2 slots (one is rated at Gen 5 x4), two SATA 6 Gbps connections and two BIOS Debug LEDs. On the connectivity side it features two USB4 ports, one HDMI, one DisplayPort, five Gigabit Ethernet, and Wi-Fi 7 compatibility. The four 5 V ARGB LED control pin headers is a clear step towards DIY users and according to company representatives, the main competition for this motherboard will be ASUS ROG products. PCWatch reports that Minisforum intends to offer the F1FGM motherboard at a price point comparable to a standalone desktop CPU in the second half of this year.

This sure looks interesting. I will not build a new PC in a while but if they continue doing these kinds of motherboards I will consider them.

I wonder what kind of TIM they are using between the chip and the vapor chamber heat spreader

Two SATA ports, no thanks.

If you look at their ITX mobos you'll find out that at least some users reported major temperature drops after repasting.

Oh, thanks. Then it would probably be a good idea to put some PTM7950 on there

Who cares, if it doesn't stay cool enough, just replace with something better that you know works....
five Gigabit Ethernet
Sorry, but I don't see but ONE in the pics posted, or maybe my tired, old eyes are deceiving me :D

What's wrong with having these, other than the fact that it uses a few pci lanes ??
I really like this trend, as long as the MB+CPU combo is fairly priced
And this is the challenge......
let's just say that I am, well, somewhat skeptical on this part being favorable, at least at launch anyways :D

This is really neat, but I wish it had 5.1 audio jacks. I'd be interested if it did.

Make it have 4x SATA ports, golden plated 7.1 audio jacks (and possible an spdif), and a Strix Point CPU and that's as close as it gets to my dream SFF board.

Actually wait a sec. Did I read the article right and it has 4 m.2 slots? It says, "Storage interfaces include one PCIe 5.0 compatible M.2 slot, three additional M.2 slots". But I can only see 3 slots on the front, is there a fourth one on the back? If this is true, then you can add a simple asmedia 6x SATA breakout board on one of the m.2 ports and we are in business.

Technically it has, the 6 jacks can be used with a jack to rca breakout cable and fed into an amp as 5.1 multichannel input. You can use the front panel audio breakout for headphones.

Unfortunately there's a trend of cheapening out on the back panel audio connectors, on B650M/B850M I only found one board with native 7.1 audio and that was some piece of shit ASUS gamer board. My B550M board still had 5x gold plated stereo jacks plus spdif, but unfortunately I can't use it because the onboard audio chip died (!!!) and only outputs static.

I've used several of their ITX boards (less gamer than this, all things gamer are always bad, gamers are bad) for workstations and they are fine. Repaste yes but... you can get a high core count mobile CPU, 96gb RAM, dual M.2 slots and a dual 5090 in for a great workstation in a small footprint for actual computing. They work just fine. This was harder with the 4090s but really GPUs are going to die first for work. Power connectors are non issues as long as gamers are not buying them. And tossing out a GPU in a few years into the trash is more effective time than selling off to a gamer on ebay.

I do have to ask, how is this any different from a 9950X on an AM5 board?

I need this with 9955HX3D and I'll drop $600 for it.

Take note this is technically the only known micro ATX X870 motherboard at the moment. Yes it has a fixed mobile CPU on it, but it should be just as efficient as a 7950X3D 7800X3D (75W TDP).
