Lexar, a leading global brand of flash memory solutions, is excited to announce the NQ780 M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD and the Professional NM1090 PRO PCIe 5.0 SSD, designed to provide the peak performance needed to keep every game running smoothly.

The Professional NM1090 PRO PCIe 5.0 SSD delivers speeds up to 14,000 MB/s read and 13,000 MB/s write to provide superior performance for professional-grade systems. Its 6 nm controller optimizes heat control for more efficient performance and customers can pair it with an AMD Ryzen or Intel i9 processor for a next-level game experience. The drive features DRAM Cache and SLC dynamic cache to greatly enhance data transfer speeds to reduce wait times and improve system responsiveness.

The NQ780 M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD is designed with premium technologies to deliver read/write speeds up to 7000/6000 MB/s and to prevent system lags for both games and work applications. A single-sided design and Intelligent Power Control make it perfect for laptops. Plus, the drive comes with the Lexar DiskMaster SSD management tool so users can perform firmware updates and monitor drive health.

"If you're a casual gamer looking for an upgrade, or a creative professional who needs serious speeds to power through projects, Lexar SSDs are able to deliver the performance to improve any system," said Joey Lopez, Director of Marketing. "We're excited to see our range of PCIe storage solutions optimize the systems of students, gamers, professionals, and everyone in between."

The NQ780 M.2 2290 PCIe Gen 4.4 NVMe SSD is available in 1 TB for an MSRP of $79.99, 2 TB for an MSRP of $149.99, and 4 TB for an MSRP of $289.99.

The Professional NM1090 PRO PCIe 5.0 is available in 1 TB for $179.99, 2 TB for an MSRP of $269.99, and 4 TB coming this summer.

Awesome ssds however updating their firmware is so weird, almost impossible if your case doesn't have a restart button

the way i did it is having the ssd in an ssd enclosure updating the firmware, shutting down the PC then unplugging the enclosure from PC/power socket for 2 minutes then restart everything, that way i got the firmware updated

I have many of their SD UHSII cards for work, but bought first time their 790 nvme and it had massive issues from the get go. would stay on 0kb/s on transfers. got a refund, but just a pita and not friendly customer service process, and their ns100 sata ssd also has issues.

for me I only give one chance and when I need to use CS and it sucks, that company is on my no buy list. will just buy more firecuda drives. very happy with those. it doesnt really matter if its 5000 or 50000 MB/s speeds, its not noticeable. nvme are good for scratch disk for video editing but otherwise sata ssd is fine

so not touching their drives again, but SD cards are ok.

Well, same for me... I've had issues with all their products in the past, and put them on my "no-buy" list some time ago....that was about the same time I starting trying/using WD's Black series drives, and have NEVER looked back since...

Between my personal rigs (7x) and my client's rigs, I have over $8K worth of them (mostly 750 & 850x) in service atm, neveranottaproblemo.... fast, reliable, easy-peasy firmware updates etc ect....and the 2 bad ones I got (screwy PLC's or whatnot ?) were quickly replaced with new(er) ones no questions asked, and they told me not to even bother sending the bad ones back...

whoops, I dont touch sandisk, or WD. ever. have had way too many wedding archive HDD drives go bad. bought 5 extreme sd UHSI cards and 3 went dead. shitty cs too.

lexar sd UHSII are good, but I will not touch their nvme/ssd again. when 2 drives you ever buy and both have issues, thats pretty bad. I also dont buy samsung ssd either.

Ill stick with ironwolf HDD and firecuda nvme and lexar SD UHSII

Well, SD cards are another story altogether, since I have not, as of this moment, found any from any mfgr that I considered reliable enough to store precious stuff on long term, so I avoid them like the plague.....

A "Q" in the model name of a SSD usually means one thing, do I need to say it aloud?
Then again, the Lexar NQ790 is supposedly not QLC, so perhaps the same is true for this new NQ780.

Gotcha....

I kinda figured that was what you were getting at, but then I thought you might have some unusual aversion to the letter itself, for some reason that can not be discussed in public, hahahaha :)

I'm mildly curious how a PCIE 5.0 NVME behaves when slotted into a PCIE 4.0 NVME M.2 instead. I get that the transfer speeds would be limited to Gen 4 slot speed, but wouldn't that allow the controller to throttle less in practice and possibly have higher sustained random I/O!? Like sure sequential performance would drop, but sustained performance should by contrast be better when it comes to the controller managing random I/O and higher queue depths before the controller itself throttling ends up the bottleneck. That said some testing would need to verify it behaves in that manner.

Sadly these days majority case makers have started to pennies by dropping Reset button(even indicator LEDs) from cases.

Their cards and reader are pretty decent and many are much better than what Sandisk offers although now that WD and Sandisk have split would be interesting what happens with WD Black SSDs.

I see some mix comments about Lexar SSD, I actually shun away from their SSD.
Mainly due to high failure rate and lagginess especially the Lexar NM610.
Lexar NM610 is the cheapest gen 3 drive back in the days which replaced by the NM620.
However even with the new version I try to avoid using such SSD.
When Lexar release the Gen 4 SSD, earlier model like NM710/NQ710 I will try to avoid.
However with recent more and more PC builds in my workshop, I been noticing
these Lexar SSD seems to hold up much better than the older NM610.
So far I been using NM790 for few of PC builds/upgrade, in my experience so far there's no issue.
But again it depends on user usage, if the usage is very high the SSD may wear out fast.
One thing the Lexar NM790 didn't disappoint unlike Samsung 990 Pro early batches
were the early health decline issue.
Point here is the NAND Lexar uses on their SSD not all models are build equally like Samsung.
How long will these NM790 I recently upgrade/install, time will tell.

That’s literally four times the price of cheaper SSDs from 2023. Luckily they have also released an already old drive, with only two times the price!

I guess progress is now just a Russian cargo delivery spacecraft.

Yeah same, the NM790 performs admirably and was priced well, went straight for a 4TB version. No issues so far

Don't worry.
I'm sure MBA and marketing scammers have fingers itching for that P letter starting acronym to make QLC look good.

Maybe that would allow drives to actually idle.
So far "idling" of these later "best" drives seems to be like if they have some internal spinning rust hogging power for doing nothing.

the whole industry is riddled with fraudsters. for months theyve all been thieving high prices. thats much much before "tarrifs" started

as long as its not WD then we can see whats available.
