I mean....I can just name the folders I put files into and then I know where to look for them. Dont need an invasive AI to do that.Tbh I love Recall (on my work PC). As someone who works on hundreds of files, even though I'm very organized, it can be a challenge remembering and finding the exact file I'm looking for.
Recall makes finding them dead simple. My only complaint is that the security needed to enable it is now too aggressive. If you use an external webcam for Windows Hello, you can't enable the feature. The webcam needs to be integrated and support new security features.
In any case, if you have a PC that's dedicated for work, Recall is fantastic.

Just Microsoft doing Microsoft things, making changes because it can, not because they consulted their customer based and are filling a need.
I still use Skype daily, and they are ceasing it's use at the start of May and forcing users on to their inferior Teams, or to find another platform.
All the feedback forms stating they need to stop doing what they are doing is most likely filed directly into a bin and blatantly ignored, because they know better.

yeah, choice can still be good, and Apple has far less of that than many care for. That said, the current crop of Apple laptops are things of beauty. The 15” MBA just feels like a premium product, from the build quality and design, to battery life and performance. Hands down the best laptop I’ve ever owned, and that includes previous generations of Apple laptops and even a few XPS models. It was finally thinness done right by Apple.Hopefully Tiny Wall will block all that calling home. I only have my browsers allowed to access the net.
As a life-long Apple hater, I thought this day would never come but I recently got a 16' Macbook M4 Pro with 48GB RAM for work and watching streams. It's such seamless integration with my Airpods Pro and AppleTV (screen mirroring on my TV). Lasts all day on battery and there is no fan grills and I never feel the air or hear the fans. I can't say the same for my Dell laptop that sounds like a jet engine when it's sitting there idle. If not for games, I would rock a Mini or a Studio. Instead of dual booting I might just get one to connect to another input on my monitor. The OS is so much better once you get used to it.
I did delete Apple Intelligence even though there was a toggle to turn it off. It was very simple. The local model is all in one folder. It's supposed to delete itself when you toggle it off but I did it manually. I can always toggle it back on and it will redownload it. I'll use it once there is a reason. With Microsoft, it seems all ingrained into everything and not a separate feature.
I'm just exhausted with Microsoft, Nvidia, and AMD. Also with retailers jacking me around since the pandemic with markups whenever there is an opportunity.
The best part. There has never been shortages or markups or 3rd party manufacturers releasing crap versions and overpriced products. I don't have to worry about which coolers sucks.
Just throwing it out there as an option since a lot of you are running or considering Linux.

apple are nice if you stay in the bubble, they have perfected the bubble. but its when you need to connect some random piece of electronics its just not happening .yeah, choice can still be good, and Apple has far less of that than many care for. I know Macs aren’t for everyone, but if it runs your preferred software they are very painless—almost boring—to operate. You also get a better sense of where Apple is going. They sure are bungling the AI part, but they aren’t dumping it on you either. The solitary off switch is more convenient than Copilot everywhere, from the OS to Edge, Office and even Notepad.
if it wasn't for Windows LTSC, I'd have done something similar by now tooMan, I literally ditched Windows yesterday and jumped feet first into Linux (specifically, CachyOS) after doing a hardware upgrade/rebuild. Spent most of today just fiddling around and setting stuff up (including finding alternatives) but I think it will be worth it in the long term with Microsoft turning Windows into what it is...

I gotta say with the recent MS shenanigans I have a very strong distaste for ever buying a Windows laptop again. I don't want all those features shoved up my throat, and Apple does handle that a lot better. Its similar to Siri vs Cortana isn't it, except Microsoft didn't have enough bravado yet at the time, but the same things applied; actually useful versus half-finished features that are actually just an option versus getting forced on you.yeah, choice can still be good, and Apple has far less of that than many care for. People talk walled garden with Apple, but it’s only a half-truth. It’s more prevalent on iPhones and iPads, but to this day, you can use any Apple device without an Apple ID. On a Mac, it’s really easy, but on mobile devices it’s tougher since you’ll likely need the AppStore. The “walled garden” is actually the most tightly integrated system that makes having an iPhone, iPad or Mac feel like an extension of other devices. It’s great if you’re okay with it (I am), but you can live without it too.I gotta say with the recent MS shenanigans I have a very strong distaste for ever buying a Windows laptop again. blink twice if microsoft has your family hostage. That's what I do, like I said I'm very organized with my folder structure and file names. But it's not enough.
Many times I'm looking for specific content inside Word, PowerPoint, or Excel files. Windows Search fails here, but Recall is shockingly accurate and efficient.
If there's a specific picture that I used in a PowerPoint presentation that I need to find, Windows Search or proper folder/files names wont help me find it. Recall will.
