It seems as though Respawn is readying to release the first new Apex Legends champion in almost a year in early May when the Season 25 update drops. The new character, Sparrow, was revealed earlier today in a trailer for the new season, seemingly titled Prodigy, on YouTube, which also gave us a glimpse into what to expect from the new character. Sparrow will be a sharpshooter with a focus on archery and agility. He also has a little cat companion, who is sure to be a fan favorite if featured in-game at all.

The new update will also make changes to the Bocek, a compound bow that was introduced to the game in 2021. It's fitting that the changes to the Bocek arrive with the new champion, who is presented as an "agile archer." At one point during the trailer, Sparrow can be seen using a small jetpack to propel himself through the air after taking a jump, lending credence to the agility claims. Apex Legends is already a game with plenty of highly mobile characters, so a new character with agility central to their character should make for a fun, fast-paced experience. While the trailer shows Sparrow using guns and bows, it seems as though his archery lore may be central to some of his abilities—in one scene in the trailer, he stabs a character with an arrow from his quiver, and in another, he launches an electrically charged arrow with an area of effect at a group of enemies. There also seems to be some synergy between the Bocek and Sparrow—perhaps this is one of the changes planned for the Bocek update.

A cute cat will save this game, right.

Never played it myself, not my thing. It's an older game, so it's bound to dip with time, but it's hardly dying. Player count halfed over a year, but it's still maxing roughly 200,000 players. Steady for past 6 mpnths (adjusting for season fatigue).

Does Apex Legends need saving? I thought it had a dedicated base of fans and it was making money hand over fist?

I did. I picked it up right about time when it was released, and I even had some online friends to play it with regularly. I'm not a pro player by any means, but it was fun. Also winning a match with randoms was always a nice feeling, and the game was good, versatile and kinda balanced overall. Game looked really good and it had amazing performance even on an average HW.
Few years ago I think, everything changed for worse. I'm not sure exactly when as I stopped caring long time ago.
I didn't say it was dying, but I think it does need saving. EA ownership is taking its toll on this developer (respawn). Whoever thought it won't happen was too naive I'm afraid.

Yes, everything turned into a quick cash grab. Small effort by the devs on game improvements, but constant ass whipping by their masters make them do what? Suck the life out of the game I suppose (and money from the fanbase I guess).

Post and comments that kinda sums a part of my thoughts.

While I agree the game needs more improvements, the TTK now is better than what it was in the previous seasons. The focus on rushing in and breaking shields ASAP then rotating in under 30 seconds (to avoid a 3rd party) is refreshing.

The only thing I hate is the nerf done to Pathfinder. 30s cooldown on his grappling hook is stupid as hell for a character that is a skirmisher.

I might say I don't like a lot of changes from the very beginning. I don't like the new maps, new chars, new weapons and nerfs done to the old ones. Also matchmaking, as it was common (for me anyway) to end up with a couple of pros, just being a newbie/casual. We won many games that way. I don't think that's the case anymore, at least it wasn't the last time I've played. I could go on with my rant, but that's more than enough without getting lost in the details.
I just can't get into it anymore, and it's not just that I'm getting old and grumpy. The game changed a lot, IMO for worse, and I'm not the only one that shares that sentiment.

Cats make everything better.
