Scythe's European Branch to Cease Operations, After-sales Support Rerouted Through Local Distributors & Retailers

Last Saturday, Scythe Group announced the closure of its European branch. This followed mid-April reports of unusually low stock numbers in Germany—at the time, ComputerBase.de and its community highlighted the complete absence of the manufacturer's flagship Mugen 6 CPU air cooler at regional retail outlets. The site published an investigative article on April 22; presenting an important Consumer Protection Forum filing. Apparently "economic difficulties" have warranted the initiation of "preliminary insolvency proceedings"—as a result, Scythe EU GmbH faced an uncertain future. Looking back in TechPowerUp's news archive, the last official introduction of brand-new products—Mugen 6 standard and Black Edition coolers—happened around early February. Also within the same month, TPU's crazyeyesreaper reviewed the brand's "highly-recommended" Fuma 3 model. Despite releasing consistently high-grade and top-performing products; Scythe has faced aggressive competition across Europe—Chinese brands have flooded regional markers with cheaper alternatives. In particular, Thermalright has gained plenty of attention and uptake—due to a rapid cadence and wide variety of highly-acclaimed new releases.

Scythe's April 26 official notice stated: "To All Valued Clients, we deeply regret to inform you that SCYTHE EU will be ceasing operations. Moving forward, SCYTHE-branded products and customer support will remain available through our European distributors and online e-commerce platforms. During the transition period with our distributors/e-commerce channels, there may be some unfinished matters, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. SCYTHE will continue to uphold the principles of responsibility and integrity, ensuring consumer rights are protected in accordance with the law. We sincerely thank you for your support and loyalty to the SCYTHE brand over the years."




The helpful statement continued with: "for customers who have already purchased SCYTHE products, if you require any assistance with your products, please feel free to contact us for after-sales service through the following channels:

Sitting in a box. Retired these many years ago. I moved on to Arctic Cooling since Scythe was hard to find in the USA.

Their most recent product is the Shuriken 3 low profile cooler, which released in like October. It's fairly good, though I've yet to see more then like, three reviews for it.

I use a Mugen 6 BE, and it's pretty amazing. Cools well and is quiet, amazed they didn't release more in EU.

Always sad to see a good company that made good products go away like this...maybe some other company will buy up their assets & IP, and get permission to continue selling stuff under their name ????

Their stuff was always cheap and capable, but it was so hard to find. For years. People kinda don't buy your stuff if it's hard to find and buy. So, not really surprised they just closed it all.

That brand was kinda dead four years ago when I came back to the desktop computer market. I think it's nostalgia like EVGA or those 3dfx graphic card brand

The last time I saw a Scythe product here in Canada, Linus was still at NCIX. That was ages ago.

They released two new coolers last year, and seem to have revisions for several others in the works.

they are just a very small company in a market that has majorly changed in the last few years.

I'm from Europe. It was dead before and it's even more dead now. Like i said, you can find bunch of everything from other brands, but not Scythe. And we all know they have good products, often unique products. Years ago Scythe was the only brand to sell slim 10mm fan variants iirc and I still have bunch of them from my mATX build. Scythe Mugen coolers were hugely popular 20 years ago or so. But then they just disappeared from our market for some reason. And I have no clue why.

If they won't work on European distribution it's unlikely anyone else will. Especially with brands like BeQuiet and Noctua entirely taking over the segment as a result.

I bought some noctua fans recently, some other and one 2nd hand one. there is definitely a market for high end fans with a very old brand.

I bought be-quiet (or whatever they want to be written)
I bought arctic aio and arctic P12 and P14.

There is Corsair for the RGB fanciness and maybe Lianli for the RGB fanciness. Jay2Cents and a few others promote for "free" on youtube regularly.

That brand is scythe is below visibility in central europe with german language tech webpages.


I searched for some case fans recently and 2-3 years ago. What I remember Scythe only had one 120mm case fan "available" and only a few shops which I avoid to buy from. Shops with questionable reputation.

#19 Noctua has something similar afaik for sale. The market for 60 Watts max CPUs in small form factor is for sure a big one. *sarcasm*
