Zen 6 is what I'm holding on for it's got the potential to be a cracking chip. I'm hoping for a 24 core all x3d cache 10950x3d but probably zero chance but even a 12 core 10800x3d with new memory controller would be fantastic. Memory controller upgrade is key though as it's holding the chips back.

Don't expect 24-core CPU with 3D cache on both chiplets.
You can expect at least 25-30% more regular L3 cache with Zen 6 CCDs with 12-cores. Add 64/96 MB L3 cache on top of that. That's more than enough.

Considering the 225F's performance and that it's manufactured on an extremely expensive 3nm node that ain't happening

What would be the point? You'll overspend now to get a cpu as fast as the 265k, and then you'll overspend again within a year to get the new zen 6 - which you have no idea how it will perform anyways. You are just gambling at this point.

Just save that money and replace your motherboard when you see fit.

Just checked the prices, 320 for 265k, 460 for a 9900x...you are paying through the nose for that upgradability

Agreed, upgrading is pretty pointless unless you go AM4, going from a 1700 to a 5800x3d would be worth it, if it wern't for the motherboard incompatibilities and having to scream at AMD to get AGESA code. Even then, it wasnt cost effective, you wind up spending more than if you'd just gone with a 9700k in the first place.

But how often does that happen? Ryzen on AM4 was laying catch up, now that its got the low hanging fruit we're stuck with zen5%. And modern CPUs easily last a decade now.

Depends. For workloads that benefit from more cores it’s literally a 9900X for a bit more than half the price. An absolute bargain.

I honestly forgot about Intel's offerings. Not simply because I'm not looking to upgrade myself, but because when I see people posting on forums and asking about CPU suggestions it's always been AMD as of the past 6+ months. I don't think any price drop at this point in time is going to make a difference in the long run.

AMD said they already tested multiple CCD 3D cache variant and compared to single CCD 3D variant, performance difference was negligible.
I think we will get into reasonable L3 cache territory (48+96 MB). More L3 cache is always better, but sometimes more L1 and L2 cache can be of much higher benefit.

Arrow lake i7 has been priced at $299 at microcenter since it's inception. 7800x3d is still $380 and 9800x3d currently not in stock. 5080 is $1300 easy.
I really hope Intel can bring something to the table in the next few years because otherwise Lisa and Jensen are going to squeeze everyone dry. Paying over $500 for an 8 core cpu is just unacceptable.

Intel actually lowered prices a week ago and this promo is available since 29th of April, just announced today. What's more, it activated on my CPU purchased some months ago. What's the only issue is that the suggested promo software is different from what you actually get and there is no info in the promo terms about what games you get with which CPU (if there is even any difference, as I can't check that).
This is how it looks for the 265K. Those who think that will get Civilization VII or Dying Light The Beast as the promo page suggests will be disappointed.

There is 0 upgrade path confirmed on every platform, no? Plus who the hell is going to upgrade this next year. Intel cpus are so cheap and amds so expensive that you are effectively saving money for a new mobo when you decide to upgrade

You know you can sell CPUs? I sold my 5800X3D to pay for my 7900X3D. Then I sold my X670E to help pay for my X870E. With AM5 X670E is just fine but I wanted specific features.

Swaping a cpu a few years later and to get maybe 30€ for the old processor is sometimes better as to buy new mainboard, new processor, new dram, new case, new power supply unit and new graphic card.
Sometimes you do not even need to reinstall your operating system. Sometimes you do not even need to move your data. windows sometimes has such issues because of ... ... ... ... ...

Fair enough, I assumed that had to be one use case. I've never sold a CPU. For the price you'd get for a used CPU, I'd rather keep it and use it for a spare workstation, or games machine in the living room etc.

The example you gave still doesn't really make sense though, as you still had to buy a new AM5 motherboard So yes you could sell your CPU, but the whole "upgrade path" was not even relevant.

I guess it's the very useful OPENVINO Intel AI library which is open source, but only has hardware acceleration on Intel AI CPU/GPU. It runs OK on my Ryzen 3700X + RTX2080Ti, but it's quite slow.
