Air cooler or Liquid cooler for 9800x3d?

Just because it works on a 14900k doesn't mean it will work on a 9800x 3d. Any air cooler can cool upwards of 300 watts on a 14900k cause it's a big die. The 9800x 3d is harder to manage - most coolers will struggle to keep a 9800x 3d cool at stock in a cinebench run @ 150 watts.

To make a point for air coolers. But yeah, it's about the 9800x3D, apologies for the weird flex, I mistook this with another thread at another forum about air vs AIO. Deleted the shit. No worries.

Its all good. AMD recommends an AIO for a stock 9900X, yet I am running mine absolutely flat out with PBO on air. Not really giving anything up to my 360s.

I have a 5800X3D, and people complain about how hot they run, but I can run mine with no fans on my air cooler.. freaky quiet. And it can still take 143w PPT.
 
You can change the limit in the bios. Default is 95, but nothing prevent you from raising it. You can even disable it iirc.

So that's the default behaviour of the 5900X, or have you tweaked the BIOS?
That was an all core OC of 4850MHz 1.475v and R23 with hopes and a prayer.

24/7 operational, or just a burst?
No where near stable.. about 4500 is the best I can do for all load stability. I can already to that, or better with PBO so I just let it boost to 5150 for light stuff, and heavy all core stuff is usually around 4500-4650MHz. Linpack runs at 4500 with PBO on my 5900X, on my 9900X it runs at 5350-5400 lol.. this thing is a beast.

having compared size/temps/noise of the most common AIO over the past few years for customers and interested to compare to mine (eisbaer turned loop),
and its down to 2 options: Arctic if you are on a budget, otherwise its the Alphacool Eisbaer 280 (not the extreme/core or LT versions), which tend to perf identical or even better than
virtually all other 360/420 AIO i saw in reviews, as they use copper for the rad not alu like everyone else.
besides that, you get G1/4 connections, so instead of throwing away the whole thing, i can replace/repair/refill/upgrade what i want.
i converted mine to cool the gpu as well, and even with throttled fans, my cpu temps are 5-10C lower than what others get just cooling the cpu alone.

besides that, limit yourself to 360, numbers for (future) case options drop significantly above 280.

generically looking (US) a 240 fits +2700 cases, a 280 less than 2500, a 360 only fits about 2000, and a420 less than 1000,
and it gets much worse if you drop below ridiculous prices (say ~300 $).

so unless you already have a case you want to keep till you die, i would look at 280s maybe a 360, as they tend to perform almost identical while allowing for more options case wise.

What settings are you using for the 5800X3D?

I got mine clocked a bit higher with FSB. Everything else is stock. I'm maxing out my Thermalright PA and reaching about 84-85°C.

Just ordered a Thermalright Frozen Warframe 360, I expect dead silence and a 3-5°C temperature drop. Am I delusional? :laugh:

Their AIO are pretty decent. I have the Frozen Edge and Aqua Elite 360s, pretty much the same as what you will be running, but no screen. I always ran my pump at full speed, and it wasnt silent. But if you run it at PWM it should be fine.

Air cooler for long lasting. I'd simply go with Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120SE, it's worth every penny. It's quiet with good performance overall. Do check it out.

Well yeah, manufacturers probably already put 100% to be "safe". If there's nothing about 100% pump speed in the warranty and if it's not too loud, I'm gonna blast it at 100% myself too :D
 
That's why i'm thinking Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420,Unless if i buy a white Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420 for 100euros.

Since we have the same case and I have the Arctic LF3 360 freshly installed I can share my result.
Regarding clearance at the top the AIO doesn't reach the mobo, so no matter how tall the VRM heatsinks are there won't be any issue.
However the radiator is mounted centrally on the top panel and that is a drawback with this AIO because it is thicker than others.

The ideal situation is having a case with large clearance at the top and offset radiator mounting at the top panel. In this situation even with a thick AIO you have enough room for your fingers and routing the CPU EPS cables.

A non-ideal situation is having a case with large clearance at the top and central radiator mounting at the top panel (example Phanteks 500A). Here the best result is achieved with a regular thickness AIO.

Another non-ideal situation is having a case with smaller clearance at the top and offset radiator mounting at the top panel (example Lian Li Lancool 216). Here the best result is also achieved with a regular thickness AIO.

With that said, my result is a mediocre one with regard to routing the CPU EPS cables, a thinner AIO would have given me more room.

But the LF3 has another con this time related to to your platform choice. On AMD you will have an unpleasant block mounting experience. And not just once but every time you repaste.
Because of this my vote is against the LF3.

If I could choose differently I would probably pick the Corsair Nautilus 360 RS. Hassle free mounting and thinner (52mm vs 63mm).

Thank you for coming back.I'm also thinking to buy a Phanteks aio because maybe is more compatible but Corsair sims like a more safe choice.

I just got the cooler, took me about 1 hours to fit in perfectly with all the cable management etc.

I was also able to put -30 on all cores with PBO. Sustained all core boost is now 4600 MHz, how is this possible, 200 Mhz more than before PBO. :roll:

The temperature difference after 20 minutes of AIDA64 is small, 3-4°C, pump and fan at 100% not loud at all.
Also, I'm not really able to hear the pump.
