The TPU UK Clubhouse

can you give me year of it, i just want to look up pictures online
2012. When looking at the pictures, note that the car has a back door only on the passenger side. I've never seen anything like it, but I love it! :D

I'm asking once again, what's the weather on UK today? :toast:

Its good that it has the 6sp gear box.

A neighbour here has an 1.2L i10. You'd think he gets good fuel economy out of it and he probably could but its gimped with a 4sp auto. Great for zipping around town but he does a lot of motorway driving and thats also where his retirement money goes.

Really peppy engine for such a small car though.

Some people falsely believe that a smaller engine is always more economical. It's not true. Bigger, more powerful engines are more economical at high speed, especially when coupled with a good gearbox.

I remember a test on Top Gear (the old, classic one) when they put a Prius on a race track to go as fast as possible, and an M3 had to stay behind but keep the same speed. The M3 had better economy.

Coming back to the Veloster, it has the same economy as my Fiesta did on paper, but I really don't think I'll be getting anywhere near. I'm used to driving a faster car, so I'll push it harder to pick up the speed, at least for the first couple of days/weeks/months until I get used to it. Then we'll see.

My last vehicle (2.4L, 2014) got only slightly better mileage than my current (4.0L, 2001). And the 2001 was an old design when it was produced.

By the way, is car insurance mandatory in the UK? It is over here, but you know what they say about assuming...

What kind of insurance you buy is up to you, but having at least a basic "third party" one is mandatory.

I mean the turbo does help with fuel economy as well.

That it does. It makes the engine more powerful without consuming a lot more fuel, so you don't have to push it as hard.

The 3rd door is unique that's for sure.
yeah I have seen those 3 door cars in America before, not that brand or model, but yeah 3 door was more common for a short length of time haha i like it too

edit: just looked up pictures, I want the orange one :D
Ironically while we in Europe got the i30N, US and Canada got the Veloster N.
I honestly think that was a mistake and they should have also sold the i30n to compete with golf GTi and focus ST.
Not every Americans are small enough to fit in the likes of Veloster or a mx5(Miata)

Speaking of that, I'm too tall to fit in a MX5, but plenty of room left in a Suzuki Swift...
Being tall is not always so good

It also means you won't fit in Lotus either, not that we may ever own one but if you do get a chance to experience one though I can only imagine its a road legal go-kart.

My old law teacher back in secondary/high school drove Lotus Evora but she was like 4ft something.

How tall? do you make 185cm?

I don't fit in any of those, and I've always wanted to drive a first-gen Miata, is such a bummer.

A bit more, 193 cm

Same, any Miata, tried (well ... just sat inside) the last one, white, beautiful, ready to buy (!), but my knees was on the wheel, seat back at max.
By the way, it was the same with the old Audi TT ...

I imagine it would look sort of like this if you tried:

The Veloster is not that small actually. At least it feels a lot roomier than my Fiesta was. I've even got proper legroom in the back, which I can't say about any other car I've owned.
Even driving it feels like I'm driving a relatively big car (by my standards at least).

A Toyota Yaris could have sorted you out aswell. Tonnes of them on the road and probably very easy to insure and maintain so long as it isnt a GR.

That's what I looked at at first. Then I found the Veloster, and couldn't help myself. :ohwell:

I was looking for the Yaris GR, bur here we've got a nice malus for buying new cars ...
I don't know if you guys get the same ?
Here the GR was launched a little under 40.000 € (Now, the new iteration is 50.000 €)
Now, guess the amount of the malus ...

Are you well seated ?

No heart problems ?

Take a good breath and reveal the spoiler if you dare !
(you've been warned)

malus is 70.000 € ! So the new GR is 120.000 €

I think the original GR was around £35-40k brand new but they all got allocated and sold out during COVID.
The newest one is around £40-50k new which is insane when it's not as "powerful" like it's competitors like the Audi S3 and golf R.
Heck the FL5 Civic type-R would be a better deal too if you need the space

What happened with hot hatches being just slightly quicker and firmer road cars, and not insane racing machines for luxury car money? :(

Combination of inflation and car manufacturers know there are people out there that prefer driving hatchbacks over like performance Saloon and coupes.
Probably the biggest culprit to blame the trend is Volkswagen group and then the Japanese car manufacturers followed afterwards.

I am a firm believer that parents with newborn baby(babies) do not need compact SUV or even SUVs at all.
But the marketing trend is showing people buying compact SUV or even SUVs now as more of a status symbol and brainwashed people to think they need them as new parents.

The only people buying hot hatches now are enthusiast that have money or love to spend all their money on crazy finance deals on them.

I know a fair few people who rent cars aswell. Car ownership has gone a bit doolally.

Id still take an estate over an SUV any day.
