After a brief hiccup on Friday (May 30), Void War has finally launched! Command an ancient starship and fight your way to the heart of a dying Empire. Fend off attacks from demented cultists, craven space pirates, and xenophobic Imperial soldiers. Discover powerful artifacts and use them to build your ship into a fearsome war engine.

In Void War, you take on the role of an outcast starship commander seeking the fabled Vault of Souls. Journey through 6 sectors that test your decision-making skills in a dark, techno-gothic galaxy. Put your ship and crew to the test against one of the multiple available bosses. Void War features a streamlined map interface that focuses on strategic decision-making. Say goodbye to the days of having your run tanked by forgetting to double-check pathing decisions on the star map. Points of interest such as merchants and repair points are telegraphed in advance, so you can always plan your route with maximum tactical awareness.

There is SIGNIFICANTLY more emphasis on crew combat and boarding actions, with over 70 different crew types, each with their own unique characteristics including passive/active abilities, resistances, and equipment slots.

Play as one of 10 powerful, customizable commander units, each with their own unique abilities. Customize your crew with 140 different types of wargear, including weapons, armor, consumable, and psychic powers, all of which have the potential to drastically alter the performance of each individual unit.

Revel in the power of dark, sinister archaeo-tech. Overpower your enemies with occult magic. Mass produce lobotomized servants with techno-organic meat printers.

Outfit your starship with not only the usual weapons, shields, and life support systems, but also displacement weapons, graviton field generators, profane altars to the dark gods, and more... In this universe, war crimes happen on Tuesdays. Contend against 12 Torment difficulties (for now) which will gradually ramp up the variety and challenge. Reach your peak potential as the last sane commander in a galaxy gone mad.

FTL got Borg'd

Star Trek Borg GIF

Wow. Sue these assholes into the ground...

I'm not even bothering to give this my attention. I don't care if its good. This is so shameless.

Why does it bother you someone else picked up the slack when FTL hasn't had an update in more than a decade?

I'd understrand if FTL was in active development and VW was just a bad clone made to cut into FTL profits but let's face it: FTL is old and everyone who wanted to play it already did and most were left wanting something more or at least something else in the same category.

The screenshots shown hint towards a reskinned version, which we could do with a mod to FTL (which is quite healthy), hence the immediate raised eyebrows.

EDIT: someone on the ftl subreddit gave it a good and there does seem to be a decent number of changes from FTL. Might actually give it a go myself

That's the kind of reaction I expected. Flatly rejecting the game without first looking into it is both sad and not very smart IMO. After all, if someone didn't like FTL they wouldn't be bothered by VW.

Yeah. That said, as a massive fan of FTL, the initial look certainly had me real suspicious of things (which is why one doesn't comment immediately).

Now to find some time to actually get stuck in it myself....
