In the four days following its June 5 launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 game system sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide, becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo game system ever.

Nintendo Switch 2 features a larger, vivid screen capable of full 1080p high-definition display (and 4K when connected to a compatible TV or monitor), a faster processor that allows for enhanced graphics and gameplay performance, and redesigned magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers with mouse functionality. The system also debuts the new GameChat feature, where players can voice or video chat and share game screens with friends online, bringing the feeling of playing together in the same room even if their friends and family are miles away.

"Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go," said Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Bowser. "We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways."

The Nintendo Switch 2 system launched alongside Mario Kart World. Featuring a series-first interconnected world where you can drive virtually anywhere (including across cities, plains, a desert and even the ocean), Mario Kart World includes dynamic weather conditions, new game modes, and up to 24 drivers at once—the most in series history.

And next month, a brand-new 3D platforming game starring Donkey Kong will make its debut exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Donkey Kong Bananza will let players unleash their inner Kong as they smash and bash their way through a wild, mayhem-packed action adventure, launching July 17.

Nintendo Switch 2 is now available for the suggested retail price of $449.99 and is also available as a bundle with a digital download of the full Mario Kart World game for the suggested retail price of $499.99.

Haven't even turned mine on yet. Still sorting who's got what games/data/accounts on the two Switches we have before migrating one of them to the Switch 2.

Trying to divide it up so Switch 2 is MINE + one kid, other kid gets legacy Switch #1, other kid gets Legacy Switch #2.

Sounds like you have a too many kids, not enough switches problem...

Solution is obvious - sell what kids you don’t particularly need on the second hand market. Works with other hardware, works here.

It kinda funny that Steam doesn't have this problem; if all your kids were using Steam Decks they could just jump between Decks and their games and saves would follow them. But most families have one or fewer Steam Decks while many have more than one Switch, yet Nintendo doesn't make this easy. It used to be easy; when I was a kid if we wanted to play a game at a friend's house we just brought the game and memory card with us and it worked as if it was our own console.

No, and I have no plans to. I despise everything modern Nintendo stands for.

Sooo....now we know how many they sold in the 1st 4 days, I wonder how long it will be before they declare how many were returned in the 2nd 4 days (probably n.E.v.E.r.), hahahahaha :D

I don't really see the draw of the new switch. Mario Kart world is barely different than past iterations and there's a severe lack of a system seller. It even still has stick drift issues (the sticks are identical to the switch 1).

People are paying more for the console, games, and accessories seemingly without thinking.

It's the current Nintendo and the console alternatives are mediocre. That's the draw.

Actually current NV APU, hall effect and OLED would be so much better, but it is what it is. At least has DLSS.

Nice for Nintendo. Congrats to them for the record

Knew they’d sell as many as they can make. They are been drastically inflated in price on eBay already.

I'd already buy this if it was oled. Now im just waiting patiently with my sw1.

No other handheld really makes sense to me next to a modded switch.

I can see Nintendo execs crying for not putting a higher price on the console.

They aren't sweating I'm sure, the controllers are $95 and they are likely to develop stick drift as well.

It is almost like people buy consoles at launch not for the games that are available at launch but for the games that are going to get released in the months and years that follow........................

They already have DK coming out next month, they also have a new pokemon legends game coming out, along with Metroid Prime 4. It is not like Nintendo doesn't already have new triple AAA games coming to it. I mean, Madden is coming to the Switch 2 in August. The original switch never had Madden.

The other benefit is being able to play your old Switch games at higher performance levels.

Nintendo switch adjusted for inflation is $390 dollars and the OLED from its launch date adjusted for inflation is $414. You are hardly paying more for the Switch 2, plus a $60 dollar game back in 2017 adjusted for inflation is $78 dollars. So, the $80 dollar price point makes sense. Then you factor in that if you sell games, like DK, for $70 dollars that is technically cheaper than a game sold for $60 dollars in 2017.

As for the stick drift issue, you already have aftermarket joystick replacements in the works.

2 of 3 have gaming PC's better than 80% of us. The third (the youngest) is still a tablet tard. She just started dabbling in playing the Switch to the point she got some Pink joycons for her birthday earlier this year. I thought about going SteamDeck, but Nintendo really cracked down on the piracy and I don't have the time or patience anyways. I know my neighbor runs a custom Linux something or other and plays all his Switch games on his Steamdeck whenever he wants.

I don't really see the point of the new switch, not at $450, not with $80 games, and no improved joy cons means spending more at some point for replacements, also DLSS isn't a selling point when it's required for some games to run over 30fps.
I'd rather have a Steam Deck or similar PC handheld which can do more than just be a handheld game system.

When the first Switch came out, so did Breath of the Wild for the Switch and Wii U. At one point the news story was that Breath of the Wild for the Switch was outselling the Switch, because the game was more likely to be in stock. I checked half a dozen stores before I found one with Breath of the Wild for the Wii U, so even that was selling out. That was what, March? Who buys game consoles in March? So the real news here isn't that people are buying the console it's that Nintendo produced more than for the original Switch.
