Gaming at 2k on a 4k 27" using a RX 6800 - bad idea?

Rig: RTX Gigabyte Gaming OC 6800, I5 12600KF, 32GB DDR4
Monitor: - MSI MPG 274URF QD: Quantum dot IPS, 160hz, 4-5ms response time

I mainly play single players games now, such as KCD2, Cyberpunk, Expedition 33, Oblivion, with the odd game of Apex. I use optimal settings in all games with FSR upscaling.
FPS:

• Cyberpunk quality mode - 2k :100 4k: 58
• Lies of P quality - 2k: 145 4k: 97
• E33 - 2k 58-103 depending on the upscaling level
• Oblivion quality - 2k: 134 4k: 78
• Apex 2k: 160+ 4k: ~120

I did also buy the MSI MAG 274QRFW for £150, but the colour gamut is noticeably worse (albeit I didn't adjust the colours (on either)). I'm not sure which monitor to keep.
I also own the gigabyte G24f 1080p monitor, which I'm thinking of using as my second monitor or keeping.

I have tried down scaling to 1440p on the 4k screen, and it looks okay with a decent FPS boost. I'm just thinking is my monitor too OP for my setup that I've just upgraded.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

It really just comes down to personal preference once you upgrade to a RDNA4 or newer gpu down the line you'll be golden becuase FSR4 is vastly superior to older versions.

Image quality and desired performance is something only you can really answer as far as what is acceptable would I enjoy gaming on a RX 6800 at 1440p hell to the na but when it comes to your own personal setup your opinion is really all that matters.

If FSR gives you acceptable performance and visuals I don't see why not. Yes 6800 isn't exactly a "4K card", but it's really down to the games you play and your specific needs.

FSR/DLSS at 4K is infinitely preferable to downscaling to 1080p or 1440p on a 4K panel, it's horrendous.

My QN90B is to the side with my sim setup for Falcon BMS, which is pretty much all I use it for. My 4070 Ti isn't exactly a 4K card either, so I only call upon it to do 4K in things where it's comfortable with it.

Just for context I use a 4090 for 1440p gaming that's why I said twice it really just comes down to you personally and your preferences from the 1070 the 6800 is a nice upgrade it's just going to come down to settings you want to use and how much you are willing to sacrifice when it comes to image quality but I would use the 4k monitor and just adjust settings accordingly. Maybe try optiscaler

I would keep the 4k monitor and just make it work it's not like you have to keep the 6800 forever and whatever you upgrade to down the road will likely support much better upscaling.

Lens cleaning wipes.

If you prefer a non-disposable option, look for cleaning cloths specifically described as "polishing" and combine with purified water or hi-proof iso.

I just use a Swiffer on my screens. Haven't ever had to clean anything other than dust off of them.

Well I am using RX 6900XT on my 4K monitor and I can still play plenty of games on 4K native resolution but I am one of those people that are happy with 60FPS but for higher refresh rate like 120+ even 1440p could be hit or miss especially on RX 6800 but you can always sacrifice and turn on FSR and lower some GFX settings and get better performance.....

I used the RX 6800 to play in 4K for 6/7 months before getting a 7900XTX and I assure you that it handles almost all games up to 2020/2021 in 4K well.

Fake( badly made ) cloths or some thing really wrong with that distilled water, never had a issue over 22 years +.

Always used a spray bottle to apply water to cloth and use 2 cloths.

But anyways i would not play games at 4k with a 6800 i would opt for 1440p

How long does distilled water usually keep once opened? It might just be down to the quality of microfiber cloth, tbh; it was a cheap one from Home Bargains. I've used the one for glasses and that's removed the marks off of my TV without any DW. Will try the monitor.

Hell long time as you leave the lid tightly on. Watch out some cloths are not woven right either. Smooth ones are better for glasses i find and longer threaded ones for Monitors \ TV's. Last ones i picked up was about 6 years ago and are Amazon branded but they could of changed by now.

Mm.. than use AMD Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS) from adrenaline software. Is a feature that adjusts the rendering resolution of a game in real-time to maintain a target frame rate like 60fps. Using 1440p on a 2160p monitor makes the image ugly and with artifacts, instead with DRS you should avoid the problem because it practically adopts the same technique as the consoles.
