NVIDIA App

The way I see it, a vocal minority are jumping up and down for this (as well as AMD users citing it as a reason they don't / won't use Nv - though I suspect those same people will find/take issue with it anyway), so they have the option now, no login, modern UI, seems to work a little faster than NVCP. Knock yourselves out.
I have an AMD 6750xt. The adrenaline software is fantastic. I regularly use the built in overlay and built in overclocking. The ability to set per game overclocking profiles is amazing.

I am upgrading to a 4080 super. I wish Nvidia had something comparable to Adrenaline. This new Nvidia app isn't it. It lacks the core functionality I enjoy in Adrenaline. With Nvidia I now have to install multiple apps. I still haven't found a way to do per game overclock profiles with Nvidia.

It's absolutely feature rich I agree! Visually however, I just can't bring myself to like it or enjoy using it, quite the opposite. And so far from what I've seen with the Nvidia app it's the same, and it lacks things some users might desire. To each their own though, so enjoy :toast:

Now that I have the 4080 super installed and have become fully acquainted with the software necessary for Nvidia, I miss Adrenaline. I need the Nvidia App, Nvidia Control Panel, and MSI Afterburner to replicate some of the features of the AMD Adrenaline app. I shouldn't have to install three different applications that don't even have feature parity with AMD Adrenaline.

Keep it on topic, everyone.

For me, I just install the driver, no GFE or anything like that, and my overclocking software. I use the built in FPS monitor in steam, and bobs ur uncle.

If you are staring at an overlay while playing a game, are you really a gamer, or a game bench marker.

Never used any of those "optimizations", never used GF Experience, never will use this.

If it works, why it has to be broken?

Haven't used newer Intel graphics than HD 4600, but AMD's software is surprisingly fine after getting used to its layout and amount of options.
Imho, a driver's control panel should not use any toolkit other than Windows APIs. It simply doesn't to. And using Windows' API just means it can actually blend-in with the other settings.

I agree with this to a point as long as ALL of the fine-grained controls are present.

It's all knobs and buttons and sliders. Maybe with an occasional render (i.e. image, possibly animated) of an effect. You could probably do all that using Windows 95 API.

But yeah, it's a control panel, it's all about function. Or at least it's supposed to be.

I can't believe it took me so long to find the MSI AB / RTSS overlay on/off hotkey setting, it's the best of both worlds for me. I can get very granular detailed monitoring of clocks, temps, memory, performance etc and just as easily entirely hide it for the majority of the actual gaming session

Yeah, I am using the overlay in non-steam games.

Does anybody know if NVIDIA App really requires online connection to change game profiles? So far I tried briefly and I can't do it, even when choosing individual games.

Shouldn't be necessary, at least not if you have opened the NV app before (I say this, because I have). No login is required.

Just what we all need, another launcher.

Optimization scanning doesn't work for 95% of my installed games.

Why didn't they just fix/update the legacy control panel without adding all of this unnecessary bloat?

(Yes, I'm probably trolling with this -- let me have it if I am)
this time i'm more concerned of "nvidia cleaninstall" and always make sure to tick "legacy panel" and UNtick "app" lol.

well, probably, telemetry, you know..;):D

Do you mean "opened the app before with internet access"? I didn't. I always block all the outgoing connections in such programs first.
It’s not really about login, just calling home. I think I read somewhere they want to connect to NV server to get game templates or some such.

I mean, makes sense? The app needs to download the profile data I suppose. The NV App is really not something I'd install with such concerns, maybe a trimmed out setup with NVCleanstall and change settings directly with NVIDIA Profile Inspector would work better for your use case

It does make sense for Nvidia, when we consider this as good 'ol data scrapping ;)

I doubt very much it's really necessary for them to download some "profile data", unless it's for some automated settings template for users who don't want to tinker. Ok with that, but they should still allow for changes to individual programs via the "Add a program" or "Scan a location" submenus in offline mode.

It isn't needed when I use the old Control Panel, which allows me to tweak both Global and Program Settings. Of course, I would stick with that and not bother with the App, but I read on their page that to make some overrides to games you need to use it: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/nvidia-rtx-games-engines-apps/

So, I'm also curious if somebody has experience with that, ie is there any other way to apply these new DLSS 4 overrides without using the app.

Oh, so that's what you want it for. You can use DLSS Swapper or Special K (though you should not use SK with anti-cheat protected games). There are also some games where DLSS overrides are not supported due to file integrity checks (such as Honkai Star Rail). DLSS 4 is DLSS DLLs version 310.2 or newer. SK allows you to change the render preset in real time, too. For transformer model, use preset K.

While we're on the subject of the nVidia app, after I installed it I've had several issues with games suddenly minimizing themselves and showing me the desktop. I've since uninstalled the app again, but the issue persists. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

i tested the new nvidia app once, and i found out that it made changes to the games itself! it literally changed the settings in the game without warning! not only that, but the changes it made where undocumented, certainly not "optimized" and worse than that what i already had configured. for example, in TLoU part 1, it was activating DLAA, but the old outdated version that came with the game and that produces all lot of ghosting (unusable).
i immediately uninstalled this piece of crap.
I still use the old nvidia control panel with nvidia inspector, that allows me to use the latest version of DLSS and DLAA in any Game. without having an "app" surveilling me all the time...

It only does that if you manually choose to optimize the games that it detects or trigger some checkbox during installation without reading what it is.

Nvidia Inspector is brilliant. That level of freedom and control is pretty much the only thing I miss from the Nvidia on Windows experience.

true, i clicked "optimize". but it did not warn me that it would made changes to the game itself, i expected driver settings. i do not like that at all.

Well why would it list current game options next to "Recommended" values then? You can also move the slider at the top to adjust the performance target.
