NVIDIA Becomes First Company Ever to Hit $4 Trillion Market-Cap

The first Nvidia IP I used was a Voodoo 3 2000. Maybe that should have told me what the future would be like.

Wow this is a true milestone! Hard work and vision pays off.
A lot of luck and help from his friends too like that musky guy who broke the gpu scaling limit. Jensen really loves that guy cuz now orders are not limited to 30K and under in amount of gpus.

Crazy that a gaming company started the next industrial revolution, maybe i can see some android in real-life instead of in-game :toast:
It began 2 decades ago, it's just that people are noticing now. Nvidia developed cuda back in 2006 - and it's since been used in the medical and scientific fields to research cures for diseases, decoding the human genome and last decade accelerated neural networks that can solve a lot of medical issues. But you know, goddamn it this company is evil, I want my gaming GPU. :D

Once they are able to build sentient beings humans will go extinct and gpus will not matter lol.

The bubble will burst - but even after that they will still be a huge corporation. It's not like all of it is smoke and mirrors, that would be at best lying to ourselves.

Congrats! they fully deserve this, no one gave 2 cents when they talked about machine learning and CUDA, now look how far they got.
The entire scientific community and the professional visualisation market were all bananas for CUDA for ages. But those niches don't make for gaming news headlines. Until the black swan makes its debut and the AI revolution kicks off, then it's a coupla millions whining gamers and one NVDA leading the race to world domination (in the literal, dystopic sense).

No one should be worth that much and no one should hold so much wealth. And we'll see dumb gamers bragging how they own a graphic card from 4 trillion dollar company. I've seen people brag about similar thing with iPhones... It's beyond idiotic and disgusting.

Quite the opposite, how will they process their needs without ever more GPUs?

The Internet could also be considered a huge bubble, but we can't live without it. The smartphone could also be considered a bubble, but there are many times more people buying $1000+ smartphones today than those insisting on simple phones that only cost $50 or less. AI is going to become something that next generations wouldn't be able to live without and companies are going to cash out on this. Also AI accelerates tasks, research and development, product designing and many stuff that I can't think about today or still isn't a thing today. Companies or individuals using AI will see themselves winning over the competition and that means that companies and people will start happily paying for AI because it will be an advantage. The same advantage someone has searching a term in Google instead of having to look for it in encyclopedia.
More so, countries will use AI to retain an advantage against other countries or try to close the gap with other countries.

Not true, not being able to live without and being forced to use it are totally different things.

Do you really believe that? Have they found cures to heal cancer, HIV?

Really? I guess the human race began existence in 1999, before that there had been no humans.
From what I've heard, AI in these spaces is getting very good at early detection (thanks to speedy pattern recognition), which is great for treatment before things get really bad for the patient. It's thought that they will be able to detect certain problems at the very beginning, where treatment is minor surgery in the form of outpatient care. You won't even feel sick or have symptoms, and you won't have months/years of treatment and recovery. Perhaps that pattern recognition can lead to finding cures, but even if it just gets us to that point, our quality of life will improve, lives will be prolonged, and cost of care will go down.

Very impressive performance by nVidia and well deserved as Huang had a vision many years ago and followed it through. He is like a more stable genius version of Elon :D .

To those saying it's a "bubble", it might be to an extent for the companies who are buying nVidia accelerators as those companies need to establish a business case worth their investments but for nVidia this is not a bubble at all. They are selling real hardware and making real billions of dollars right now ($44bn last quarter).

There will be a point of saturation, of course, and things will naturally decline again but for now there is no end in sight. With one very notable exception: TSMC. All of it could be over in a day if China attacks Taiwan.

That is (imo), by far, the biggest risk to nVidia's business and the entire world economy that depends so much on Taiwanese chip production. The volatile US foreign politics of the recent past do not help. I have been wondering, in fact, what Xi is even waiting for anymore?

I personally sold my nVidia stock (helped finance my RTX 5090 :D ) a few weeks ago which might have been too early in hindsight but there are substantial risks for all of the companies depending on TSMC. The unresolved tariffs situation with many countries could also shake things up repeatedly again.
Hindsight is always 20/20 and maybe nVidia stock will march on towards or beyond $200 now while China stays dormant but I have a feeling that Xi is just waiting for the right moment because a Nobel Peace Price is at stake...

Good news...none
Bad news...the discrete GPU market will probably be forever ruined as no one can compete against so much money
Market capitalization <> cash to spend.

I think it's better that Jensen stayed at an independent Nvidia, retain the total control of the company, without having to explain his actions to a board.
What are you talking about. All corporations have a BOD.

Huh?

I wonder how AMD feels about this... o_O

The Voodoo 3 2000 was a rather popular GPU made by 3DFX, a company that ended up going bankrupt shortly after in 2000. All assets and IP ware acquired by NVIDIA. So, I bought a card that eventually was eventually NVIDIA’s intellectual property. Sort of a sign on the things to come for the world’s first $4T company. 3DFX was the first to do SLI, IIRC.

AI needs to die.
Ok Grandpa.

PS: I say this somewhat sarcastically, because you are not wrong, but because at this point, it's about as useful as complaining about the negatives of gravity. Nothing we can do.

Ask Magic Johnson. Seems like he is doing ok.
Yeah HIV is less of a death sentence now.

Not all AI needs to die. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AlphaFold for probably what is the best use of AI that I have learned about, largely solving what used to be an intractable problem in biology that could lead to new breakthroughs in medicine.
The issue is you can't have one without the other. AI has also enabled breakthroughs in understanding whale/bird/other animal dialects, an obviously interesting and good thing. But it comes with such heavy baggage.

So nVidia as a mega corpo is now richer than all top 6 and bellow world countries, being surpassed only by USA (30.5 trillion), China ( 19.2 Trillion), Germany (4.7 Trillion), India and Japan (4.2 trillion).
Amazingly they are way richer than countries like UK, France, Italy, Canada, Brazil, Russia, Spain, Australia, etc...

How is this possible??

No. That is not what market capitalization is. Nvidia does not have four trillion dollars.

Why is this so difficult for people to grok?

I thought that might be where you were coming from, although I would still consider it 3dfx IP.

However, it's this technology that makes feats such as these possible.

Market cap is one of those funny make-believe metrics that facilitate the workings of the casino known as the stock market. Not saying that it’s not a sign of NV success, but I feel like a lot of people don’t fully understand what is happening - nothing in actual practice has changed. The leeches and parasites market analysts and brokers just raised the evaluation of the company based on factors that may or may not pan out in the future. It’s gambling, essentially.

4 trillion and somehow they "can't make enough gpus for demand"

Any CEO that turns his/her back to what made them, let alone how Mean & Green treats their customers,
Im just going to wait till crap hits the fan for this leather jacket dude!
