Welcome to the middle of July and this week we have a lot of Japanese games for you. We kick off with this week's major release which is based on an anime series, like several other games this week, although this one is a bit more pink. This is followed by a space colony sim, a JPRG based on a manga/anime series, a Japanese fighting game, a cop that is partially robot and we round things off with what is said to be an alternative take on Pac-Man.

Madoka Magica Magia Exedra / This week's major release / Wednesday 16 July
Characters from the hit anime series "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" come together! Featuring an all-new story setting and characters from the original ideas of Gekidan Inu Curry (Doroinu), experience the action alongside Magical Girl memories in this battle RPG. Steam link

Dawn Apart / Monday 14 July / Early Access
Dawn Apart is a space colony and factory sim with fully destructible environments. Mine, automate, and defend your settlers, or lead a rebellion against the very corporation pulling your strings. Steam link

Edens Zero / Tuesday 15 July
This is a 3D action role-playing game based on the space fantasy comic/anime Edens Zero by Hiro Mashima, creator of Fairy Tail and Rave Master. The player controls a diverse cast of characters as they embark on an epic adventure across different planets while battling powerful enemies. Steam link

Hunter×Hunter Nen×Impact / Wednesday 16 July
Hunter×Hunter's first full-fledged fighting game is now available with 3v3 Nen ability team battles! Aim for victory with your own strongest team. Steam link

RoboCop: Rogue City - Unfinished Business / Thursday 17 July
Unfinished Business is a new standalone adventure of RoboCop: Rogue City. OmniTower is their fortress, violence their language. Face elite mercenaries all the way to the top of the tower and enforce the law amidst the chaos. Steam link

Shadow Labyrinth / Friday 18 July
Shadow Labyrinth is a 2D action platformer and a genre-twisting alternate take on the iconic Pac-Man. As The Swordsman, you wake on a mysterious planet amidst relics of wars past. To survive you will discover secrets, consume your enemies, and grow from prey to apex predator. Steam link

Also launching this week: Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, Black Stigma, Dreadzone and Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition

Been waiting for co-op optimized Stronghold Crusader for a long time. Let's hope they don't mess it up. Old Crusader ate a significant portion of my childhood.

NVN2 was one of my favorites for a time, I think i did 2 play throughs on it (and expansions ) then Baldurs Gate Happened.

By looks of thing I may be getting some free time in coming days to recover in which case I will have time to go through backlog.

Took me a long, long time to get through NWN2. I'd get about half way through and a character build idea would pop in my head so I'd restart. I did this probably a couple dozen times before I finally made it through the main game and then finally moved on to the expansions.

Currently playing my way through the first NWN game (again). I'll revisit the second one after that. I've got the enhanced edition on my wishlist on GOG. I'll eventually pick up a copy.

NWN2 and its expansions were seriously good, or at least that's how I remember them. The Japanese games on the other hand, not really my cup of tea.

IMO all that japatrash should be in the bottom while the games from "Also launching this week" should be featured instead

That's your opinion, but I get shit when I don't cover the Japanese games, so...
I have never seen you comment before though, so I guess at least I made you do that.
Also, two out of the four also launching this week are old games that have been given a slight overhaul.

I appreciate your work and the weekly games article, I'm just not a fan of japatrash games, as is obvious from my previous post. As mainly a lurker here, I have noticed that there was backlash when japatrash games were omitted, I just think that that these games only deserve a short mention at the end, not a full paragraph with pictures. The games are all the same, in my opinion, made by sick minds for sick minds.

I have often said this as a joke, but I don't think I've encountered someone who actually thinks this. Why do you think this?

So...

Black Stigma = Generic Hero shooter clone
Dreadzone = Generic 7 Days to Die/DayZ/Sons Of The Forest clone?

If i was any more excited id be having a heart attack.

Madoka Magica and Hunter x Hunter both very well known and beloved anime series. Not liking the genre is one thing, but saying they have no place on a list because they aren't your personal preference is stupid. Also, like it or not these games have a huge market share, so they are here to stay.

I need to remember to save some of my Saturday night movie popcorn for my Sunday afternoon "This Week in Gaming" perusal.

Why so many Japanese crap manga games?

Regarding region locking, there's the possibility (likelihood for some) it has to do with loot boxes and Gacha mechanics. Even where it's a grey area, publishers probably want to focus on markets where they can operate freely, or with least restrictions.

The Netherlands and Belgium are quite tough on it.

Got Robocop on the last sale so I will probably give the standalone a try once it goes on sale. Might give Neverwinter Nights 2 a try once we finish BG3 campaign with my buddy, I don't recall if I completed it back when it was originally released and coop is always fun.

anyone who saw Madoka Magica when it came out won't want to touch anything related, too much trauma and the universe is fking bleak as hell...

NWN2... i played it with my friends full coop, then we ried the expansion when it came out (mask of the betrayer) we did not last past the first minutes the first mission death-locked us because the difficulty jump between games was stupid we were super powerful by the end of nwn then motb rised the level like double or more so a simple bandit house had us completely outclassed, uninstalled after that, we also hated the stupid "energy" meter that forced you on a constant time crunch.

also "this time of the year should be spent outside", you mean in the middle of the freezing cold horrible winter?, yeah, no...
