There seem to be more lawsuits than normal as Christmas approaches, this time it's Google in the spotlight. Google, which is known as "Guge" in China, is being sued by a firm based in Beijing called Guge Sci-Tech. Guge Sci-Tech was registered on April 26th last year, with Google not being filed there until November 24th later in the year, and now Guge Sci-Tech is claiming that Google's name has caused confusion and damage to its business and wants Google to change its Chinese firm and reimburse its legal costs. So far, Google's response has been to say that its Chinese name was already circulating the Internet before Guge Sci-Tech was registered and that it may have been looking to intentionally cash in on a copyright infringement lawsuit.

Now I've seen it all. Someone stupid enough to sue Google...
heh

didnt they file the same suit about this last year ?

Well. . .at lest they have the brains to try and sue Google which has deep pockets unlike that Nigerian firm suing a non-profit organization trying to supply children with laptops.

Damn thats low.

lol how did it cause damage to business? i gather Guge Sci-tech is anything but a search engine so wheres the problem?

ain't that right :shadedshu

Guge in chinese is pronounced goo-geh. Google in chin-speak is pronounced, goo-ger.

pure and simple, drop support for google in China, Problem solved

yeah... and lose a more than 1,3 billion people market of one of the fastest growing economy in the world..... more than 20% of the world population... I'd rather be sued :D

Might seem like a fast growing economy. Thet might have 1.3 billion people, but 1.2 billion are still poor as hell, cuz they suck the labor out of them and send em back to the mountains with a bag of rice (if they are lucky).

Without google nobody would even know who "Guge" is, now they wanna play the copyright card to get some more advertisement by prolonging this lawsuit for years. They've been crying about this for a year now, time to shit or get off the pot.

I would name my child google if that chinese firm wins

Another el-sicko publicity stunt.

Yesterday's news had Opera suing Microsoft. Looks like this is fast becoming a new media. I fart standing next to you, you sue me for the stink. C'mon don't you fart too? Got a cork down there? And then the reporters swarm in "How loud was it?" ; "Was it stinky or pungent?" ; "What did it smell of?"

A lot of businesses depend on Google. Imagine if they decide to remove Guge out of their search index, they'll face far greater losses than what the confusion is causing them.
