Problems with refirb 9600xt

I have a refirbished powercolor 9600xt ultra (r96-tc3) which is rated for 500/338 and I had problems with it freezing during 3d applications. 3dmark03 seemed to work fine at stock settings. I have only tried it playing ut2k4 and joint operations and problem occurs in both but less frequently in joint operations. I am currently using atitool 0.22 and had to underclock to get stable card. (Max core i can achieve without errors is about 474.) Works without a hitch and performs well at that setting. Since its a refirb, don't know it's history but I can't even achieve stock speeds. Any suggestions?

Leave the GPU core at 500, but lower down the mem to 300-297, that is the stock speed of your card, should be stable.

NO GOOD. Tried those settings and got error in 12 seconds then again at 4 seconds and Atitool locked and vpu recover i guess reset things. My mem is actually rated for 338 tho not 300. Its the ultra series which looks like they added larger heatsink and overclocked mem. Just bought M7NCD Pro off ebay so I'm gonna try adjusting AGP voltage and see what happens. As for now, stuck at 471/342 for 3d profile which gives me 3995 in 3dmark03 so not too bad.
