According to TG Daily, AMD will be releasing its dual-processor R680 graphics card one week early. The NDA on all the technical specs was due to lift on January 28th, but apparantly ATI/AMD have decided to step on the pedal and deliver the card on January 23rd. The upcoming R680 contains two graphics processors on a single board and will eventually allow four processor CrossFire mode on select motherboards. Pictures of the card as well as some early benchmarks can be found on our front page. Also note that the story is yet to be confirmed from anyone at AMD/ATI.

"US $449"...sweet. Costs less than two HD3870 units....all I wanted to know.

I wonder what the UK price will be?!

Currently a single 3870 ranges from £130 - £170 depending where you get it from / what model.

Far too high as usual :(

Awesome, I cant wait till the egg has them on stock

soo far soo good... but what game engine will use that?

I will wait til price drops some, need to trade up on my 8800 gts/320 m.b.after the rest of new system is built. :)

^Any game. The PLX lane-arbiter creates hardware abstraction. The OS sees the two-GPU card as one single card.

Britain needs some serious trade-reforms and fast.

We get taxed on everything,We have to pay £130 a year for a tv license. With our currency price so high you'd think things would be cheaper here, but with the high taxes on everything,we lose the benefit of the high currency price.

At the moment the Pound is weak against both the dollar and the Euro (comparatively to previous months).

We are currently 1.95x ish to the dollar and 1.32x ish to the Euro. These are much lower than the 2.10+ to $ and 1.45+ to € we have seen previously.

So even the currency exchange is against us!

3000th post :toast:

I hope, its not too expensive tho' I think it would be a worthy buy.

Definately, I may get one to play about with especially if it is considerably faster than my GTX in the games I play (ie 40% +).

Even if it was slightly more expensive than say 2 HD3870 I would say its possibly worth it (as long as the performance matches its price) as you don't need a CF motherboard to use it.

How much longer until review sites get benchmarks up? I've already canceled my previous order since I had to change parts, I wouldn't want to wait again. Then when I buy that card and realize the card is not all that great.

According to the op post the NDA is lifted on the 23rd so I assume the 23/24 is when we weill start to see benchmarks.

Low cost quad-fire setup anyone?
and if the comp see's them as one card for 2 cores then probably the current crossfire drivers should be enough to make 'em work in crossfire.

^That is IF they support the card in the first place.

Heck it will be way too overpriced when it comes here something like 25-30 thousand Rs.
and I thought there was a crossfire connector?

Hush -- you get free health care. I don't care if you say it sucks -- you get free health care. End of story. I would gladly pay your tax rates if it meant I didn't have to be scared all the time of having to go to an emergency room because I'm in an accident and then getting charged something like $500,000 which puts me in debt for the rest of my life -- and that's if the hospital doesn't just "release me" (translation: "kick me out") after I'm stabilized because I'm not profitable to them. ;)

But, anyway, the HD 3870 X2 sounds like it's going to kick ass. I thought ATI was going to get rid of suffixes for their card names though -- why isn't this just called the "HD 3880" or something?

No, we don't get "free" healthcare. We pay income tax AND something called National Insurance, which goes to the NHS and our benefit (welfare) systems.

Unlike the other suffixes this seems like a pretty accurate way of describing it.

Boo - XT, SL, GT, GTS, MO, XTS, ABC, etc

Yah - X2, GX2.

:D

Like I said... "I would gladly pay your tax rates if it meant I didn't have to be scared all the time of having to go to an emergency room..."

The name should have been the 3872... or something like that.

Oh, I agree -- the "X2" is a bit more accurate, but could still lead to confusion to the lay-user. Is it two times as fast? Two times as much RAM? Is it "X2" because there's two ports on the back?

Seriously -- I was really digging the numbers-only thing. Higher number = faster card. I like that.
